Do you guys think in the underworld agamemnon crossed paths with his daughter iphigenia. What must have they felt? Was agamemnon happy to reunite with his daughter? He must have carried guilt over his daughters death for the rest of his life since the incident. I think there are some versions where iphigenia voluntarily chose to be a sacrifice but I personally enjoy the idea where she actually thought she was going to marry a prince only to be sacrificed by her father. I can imagine agamemnon moving towards her for an embrace and she steps back in fear and distrust towards him

I hope Madeline Miller knows that every time I eat a fig I think about Achilles & Patroclus

Achilles: We just ate. Why are you making pancakes? Patroclys: For the dogs. Achilles: Why are you making pancakes for the dogs? Patroclus: They don't know how.

I think a lot about Achilles
I think about young Achilles in Skyros, being confronted with his own mortality, choosing between death and absolute death, nothing of you left behind to say that you were even there to begin with, absolute nothingness
How in his childish mind the concept of an early death was more bearable than non existence
Then I think about Achilles being a young man at war
How he knew he was going to die anyway, that he was a weapon more than a human, and a disposable weapon at that
Like it didn't matter that he was the best of the warriors in the Greek army, he already knew he was going to die, and how even the worst soldier had something that Achilles didn't have, hope
I think about Patroclus talking to Achilles, saying things like "When we go back home" or "when the war is over" and even when they both knew Achilles wouldn't make it, Patroclus didn’t care at all. He would be the only one to treat Achilles as a man, not a weapon
And I think that then Achilles would start imagining a future in which Patroclus would survive, go back home and take care of his son and his father; how Patroclus would get to be happy and grow old
Then Achilles wouldn't be so afraid of death anymore because Patroclus was him in a way, they were two halves of the same person, and if Patroclus got to live, Achilles got to live. And then I think that Achilles started to have hope again because of that
I think about how Achilles wasn't afraid of dying anymore after Patroclus's death, because a part of him had already died with him
