"nuzi is heteronormative" discourse is quite literally the best example of biphobia in fandom I've ever seen tbh

people seeing a "straight passing" ship that is so far from heteronormative (I can elaborate in a reblog if needed) & calling it such just bc it's an m/f pairing.... is not good

I feel like people think they're being progressive by saying this, but are actually ? being the opposite

Uzi, intentional or not, can be interpreted as a queer coded character now, ESPECIALLY after ep8 with her calling both N & V "weirdly hot robots"

by saying her relationship with N is "heteronormative," that is erasing her queer coding. she is in an m/f relationship, but that doesn't make her not queer.

in a TRUE heteronormative ship, the female character typically only exists/is present to serve as a love interest for the male character; there are also traits of "traditional heterosexual values" (ex. the female character needing a male character to have "purpose") heavily visible in the relationship

that is what heteronormative ACTUALLY means. if a female character is portrayed as an equal to a male character in a ship, that is not heteronormative. if a female character doesn't rely on a male character to have any narrative value, that is not heteronormative.

nuzi may be a "straight passing" ship, but it's not heteronormative, or even fully straight, depending on interpretation

(this post is not about people who just don't like nuzi, this is specifically about people who call it heteronormative without knowing what that means)

I think the faster the MD fandom accepts that ships don't need to be canon to be valid, & just because something is canon doesn't make it the only acceptable ship, the faster this whole "envy vs. nuzi war" will finally fucking end

It does not matter which one is canon, you can like the things you like & another ship existing should not threaten your own enjoyment of the ship you like

Just stop fighting please you're literally wasting your own time on being bitter/negative when you could just enjoy what you like in peace, & if you don't wanna see the other side for whatever reason, it is 100% FINE to just block & not engage

Trying to change someone else's opinion to be the same as yours is a huge waste of time & will just make you less happy with the thing you love, which only makes fighting tooth & nail for it an even bigger waste of time
