CURATING MY MAGAZINE
Whilst creating my magazine I ran in to a few problems, everything was going well until I tried to upload my magazine from Canva where I had created everything on to InDesign. I had removed the background in quite a few of my images and when I went to transfer the PDF to InDesign the backgrounds were still there. I couldn’t get them to budge and I was getting really frustrated, I had tried everything. However, when I went on to Canva the backgrounds were not there so, I decided to screenshot and crop the images and then put them on to InDesign. Luckily, this worked! I thought it would make the images really bad quality but it didn’t. I then ran in to another problem, when I printed the first sample of my magazine I hadn’t put the bleed line on so there was a white border around everything. So, I had to go back and do the whole process again this time with the bleed line turned on in the Canva settings. It took a few attempts but I got there in the end and I couldn’t be more happy with the result.

FINAL DESIGN BOARDS
These are the five final design boards I decided on. I added in some more 3D elements to make the boards have a bit more life, I didn’t want to add too much as I think it would take away from the designs themself which are of course the focus here. I added the same Sid Vicious face which I created on Pro Create to all of my boards. I like how my boards came out and I think it looks a lot better with just a little bit less going on.

DESIGN BOARD EXPERIMENTATION
I wasn’t 100% sure what to do for my design boards at first and was honestly a bit stuck. However, I did know that I wanted to have tea stained pages that were a bit crumpled up in order to get that vintage old battered feel that runs throughout my theme. I played around with a few concepts such as painting on my slogan rearranging things cutting out letters from a magazine and so on. I eventually decided it looked too bare so I decided to add a face to my designs..
I created this illustration of the Sex Pistols, Sid Vicious. I created this using pro create. I thought Sid would be a great face to have on my design boards as he is so recognisable and just down right iconic in the punk scene.

THE FINAL PRODUCTS
When creating my final garments I ran in to a few issues. For one of my final designs, the white baby tee with the bra spray paint, we ran out of puff binding. I had a bit of a panic and wondered what I was going to do as all of my other designs had puff binding on them and that is how I had planned it. So I had to think of an alternative and settled on a black print. I wasn’t sure if I was going to like this. However, I had done samples previously using black printing paste on white cotton so, I knew this was going to work. It came out really nice and I wasn’t mad with the outcome at all. It wasn’t what I had planned but it still came out nice and actually switched it up a little bit so it wasn’t just puff binding through and through.
This was how it came out and I really like how it looks. It’s just a bit different to the rest of my designs.

I took a few video clips of me creating these t shirts and the creative process behind it. I included the making of the bra top which I got the idea from someone on TikTok who did something similar. I did this to represent toxic masculinity and how the punks just did not care!

THE GOOD AND THE BAD
While I really enjoy the way the shirts came out I definitely came up against some challenges. I went in to this thinking it was going to be super simple and I wouldn’t have to try too hard. I had never used spray paint previous to this so I had gone in pretty blind, my original idea was to spray paint the ‘A’ black and then spray paint over it in white to create an LED look. However, when I tried to do this the white was just sinking in to the black and making it look grey. So I have had to think of a way to get around this. I am going to try and use some white acrylic paint instead and see what the outcome is. I really should have tested this beforehand, but this is a learning curve!
I also found it really hard to get the paint to be exactly how I wanted it as it is quite hard to know how hard to press the spray. Overall I was really happy with the results and I will take all the challenges onboard.

CREATING MY T-SHIRTS
I knew from the start I wanted to do spray painting on my shirts. So this is what I did! I wanted it to look as grungey and homemade as possible so I wasn’t too careful with the placement of things. I used three colours, red, white and black. The tees aren’t finished as I have yet to add my logo but I was overall really happy with the results.
