God Loves the Rainbow
Welcome to God Loves the Rainbow! This blog was started by members of St. John’s of Greenpoint in NYC, a Lutheran congregation led by Reverend Dr. Katrina Foster, a Christian pastor who is a married lesbian with a family. The intent of our blog is to be a safe space for LGBTQx people to learn about God’s love for them, and to unify Christians of any orientation in our love for God and for each other. Our LGBTQx family endures unnecessary hate from much of the world. Tragically, oftentimes this hate is doled out in the name of Jesus. We believe that actions like kicking out a gay child from the house are directly opposed to the heart of God, and a symptom of rigidity, not love. This blog also exists to educate Christians and non-Christians alike. We hope to highlight different perspectives about God’s love for His LGBTQ children, and how we as humans can best love each other. Let’s listen to each other with open minds & hearts. The name “God Loves the Rainbow” comes from our belief that Jesus loves, wants, and accepts his LGBTQx children wherever they are, however they are. We do not believe that Christians should try to change each other (especially the harmful & misguided attempts to turn people heterosexual), but that we should love and accept our brethren on Earth as God does. Any change or transformation that happens in a person’s life or character should be led & charged by the Holy Spirit, and is not up to us humans to decide for each other what those changes should be. Christ transforms us to be more like Him: steadfast in Love for even those who hate Him, perfect in trust & integrity, righteous, & willing to give His life for those He loves. It is our job to accept and unconditionally love each other, especially those who have been oppressed and made to feel ashamed by their family & friends. In the end, only God’s judgment matters-- and He will judge you, too, so check yourself before judging others!
It is possible to love and accept someone even if you don’t understand, agree with, or even like an aspect of their personality. Someone else’s life is not defined by your approval or disapproval, but by love. The best kind of love is Divine Love-- God’s perfect redeeming & loving Grace in a person’s life, and their relationship with Him.
