Original Characters
To talk about something on the topic at hand here, I would benefit from touching on one of the questions I get the most (I've gotten a fair few that I just haven't had time to answer directly- sorry, sorry)
"Do you like [X] series? Do you like the cards of [X] in the game? What about [Y thing]? What movie are you the happiest has cards?"
Questions like this are a little egocentrical, I feel, because they clearly aren't as much about the game that I'm here to talk about as they are the one you're familiar with. One of the key tenants of GODGAME as it was, I would say, was its "Original Identity". That's what I'd coin. It wasn't as interested in being some big crossover celebration. And yes, it had original characters- lots of them.
When I'm asked "what characters/cards/things in GODGAME are [my] favorite?", it's going to be those ones. I don't think so much about the crossover aspect of the game. That much served more to aid the reach, or the popularity, rather than the core message- the swimming tail, the flagellum. Or whatever you want to call it.
But I know the cards people are most interested in seeing are the ones of IP they recognize. Isn't that just the state of the world? Well, nothing wrong with it... I plan on being as thorough as I can be, so you'll get what you're looking for and then some, I hope.
There's something to chew on. -Til next time, Andy

Since some people don't seem to have the capacity for intelligent thought: if I am running an archival blog that aims to educate the public, if I had the insider information sitting in my lap, I WOULD RELEASE IT.
I can't find something just because it's lost. It takes work, and patience. Some people lack that, I can tell.
Ask yourself why good things stay gone next time you act up like this. I'm not going to help people who can't help themselves.

So-Called "Card Fanatics"
A lot of nothing updates recently. I'm sorry for the wait. I wish I had something kinder to put out but instead, it's a notice. Going forward, please consider this blog- and all my other contact info for that matter- DO NOT CONTACT FOR ANY PURPOSE if you consider yourself a "Card Fanatic". I don't want to elaborate because I didn't want to give this any attention in the first place. You know who you are.
As a brief PSA for the sake of the ignorantly curious that may follow me at this time, there are many people in this world who will take their obsession with something that is LOST to an unhealthy extreme. I have seen it happen myself many times. There is a time, and a place, and a way to engage with these types of things. You're becoming sycophantic, losing yourselves. I don't want you sending me messages anymore. Since you clearly know more than enough about me as is, you shouldn't need to ask me any questions then, right?
For the rest of you, please look forward to continued "GODGAME" updates in the coming days
-Til next time, Andy

You do need the application "TableTop Simulator" to play their GODGAME, since making as many cards physically as they did digitally sounds frankly infeasible.
The real game has a lot of cards, too, granted, but some of them never even got cut out...
I guess that means you can't even play with them. At what point do words on a page take on lives of their own? What about drawings on a whiteboard?

Right, this is late, but as long as I'm updating my page it would be wrong of me not to promote this after working with these people. This is the new version of GODGAME that's being worked on. It has nothing to do with the original, actually, but for any of my IRL followers curious about what new version I'm referencing in some posts, it's this.
It's worth checking out for context on what I'm talking about, if nothing else.
My opinion on the idea of doing this I've already made clear, I don't know if I love the idea of appropriating someone else's work from so far in the past like this, but as an archivist I'm sort of doing the same thing... and what they're making is passionate and full of care, so I do endorse it as much as I can, in it's own way. It's good, they're good people, and I'm grateful it's given me more of a platform to talk about the real game.
Check this one out if you get the chance, too.

The God of Games
I'm getting a bit sidetracked with my hands in several different pots, so this post won't have any pictures or anything. It's just a recount of a particular gameplay mechanic most of you probably aren't familiar with.
Did you ever question 'GODGAME'. Like, why's it called that? From what I've seen of the new version you're all familiar with, it's a little superfluous. The players are 'GOD' and it interchanges, whatnot. That's sort of true of the real game, but that's not where the name originally came from.
Of course, the game was always about different characters coming together; it evolved to that pretty quickly after its inception, but it wasn't instant. In the very, very beginning, it was only populated by original creations. I'd need to remember most of the other ones but the centerpiece was what you could call the first BOSS card, the GOD OF GAMES. It was the final boss of the original GODGAME. See, that's what the eye is based on. But I wonder how they knew that..? Is there a drawing of it somewhere that someone still has? Or did the vague description just get passed on to the new developers? As far as I know, I hadn't ever heard anyone talk about this character in regards to the new variant of the game, so I wonder how the idea persisted.
It gives me hope that there's more lingering of the real game than I originally thought. I wouldn't bring this up if it was JUST memories I was going off of, though, I think that's unprofessional... so stay tuned for that.
I've got several other GODGAME topics I'm zeroing in on, too... soon I'll finally have some more to show you guys.

apologies for the strange wording in my previous ask. godgamediva may have some knowledge of the game, but her page is password protected. any way you can think of to reach out?
Don't worry, I got the picture. I answered the other asks. Thanks for reaching out.
-Andy
P.S. Unrelated to your ask, but an open letter to any of the followers of this page: if anyone knows of a good, cheap microphone and video camera, one where the quality isn't too bad but price is the more accessible axis, I'd appreciate recommendations. It would help with some other documentation I'm trying to set up. I didn't want to make a post just dedicated to this but while I'm here, you know?

do you know the password to godgamediva.tumblr.com? its linked on d.va's basic card in thrillhouse edition
From context, I'm gonna guess that blog belongs to Hana. She has a card in the game? She's always inserting herself into things. Some people don't even know she's a real person because she's always trying to get herself into the new games she gets obsessed with. I remember when she signed a deal to have her likeness appear in that shooter game from a few years back. Wonder how that went? I'm not very close to her, but we have spoken a few times. I have her contact info.
She messaged me about the game before, but it wasn't on this website, so I haven't actually seen it before. I'm not sure why it'd be password protected, as she doesn't have anything to do with the development of this game (the real one, nor the new one that you're familiar with). I think she only knows about it because we talked once. i didn't think it stuck with her.
I know she likes the spotlight, and video games, so that's probably why she'd make a blog about it. But it doesn't seem characteristic for her to password lock it. I'll ask her about it, thanks for reaching out.

You know, it's been a busy year. Found some time and a contact helped me out and I should have at least a small update post later on today, maybe tomorrow. Look forward to that. In the coming days after that, something slightly bigger should follow.
Details to follow. I found some more information about old cards.

New Year
Happy New Year. I’ve been working behind the scenes, just silently.
Sorry to all the people asking to see new cards, I haven’t had any ready yet in a quality I’m happy with. I should have a preview of one or two later today, maybe tomorrow, and then a whole batch soon. Stay tuned.
- Until next time, Andy

hi, andy! the work you're doing here is very interesting and cool. i'm actually one of those people working on a 'GOD GAME' of sorts - like you said, it's exactly like crabs. i'm very curious as to how this game functions. if you remember, how exactly do SUPPORT cards work? either way, it's awesome to see a fellow card aficionado. thanks for all the work you're doing.
I had to comb through some of the videos of the fake game you guys have to properly compare and find a way to answer that makes sense, so sorry for the delay.
The easiest way is to call it a 'Consumable' card, though it seems like your version generalizes the whole concept a lot. Your game has Supporter cards though, which is sort of the same thing. Imagine a 'Supporter' card that you can hold in your hand by design. Additionally, a number of effects of cards interact with SUPPORT cards, including the current WORLD (another thing your version doesn't have, closest equivalent is Environment or Phenomenon, it's sort of like both I guess). A bunch of the WORLD cards would do things like send SUPPORT cards back to the user's hand, or make the effects target all player's fields and not just the user. It depends. ITEM cards were a meaningful part of the game so comboing them with your SUPPORT cards and your teams' ATTACH cards was an important part of winning the game.
Thanks for the question.
*EDIT: I realize that 'fake game' might sound rude. Wasn't meant to sound rude, it's just true (from my perspective.) Nothing wrong with being fake. From your perspective, what I'm saying ought to be fake, and your version of reality is the truth. There's not just one ultimate answer. (If there was, I might as well not find anything lost again. I'd be digging it up after it's gone, making it anew, and therefore it's not honest. By that logic.

What do you mean by "music cards"?
Most of us used to call cards that used the MUS mechanic music cards. Like the violin boy card, or Songstress, or whatever else. Most of the characters on them were singers and dancers so that's what MUS was probably referring to. Unless I'm missing something. Thanks for the question.

Were all full art cards done in the 3D rendered style of Needles Piano or were there different art styles?
Depends on the card, the era, the set too if I had to make an assumption from memory. You're not going to find a lot of cards like that one, even in the full set. I think some of the cards we played with were earlier promotional variants, or maybe the one I posted is the promotional variant. The magazine I took the scan from isn't organized very well and the person who put the images together didn't label the cards in any specific manner. Reads more like a department store guide the way it's laid out than anything that would let you get a foothold on what actually goes where. Still, to answer your question, yes and no. That card looks like that because of what it's from, presumably. Don't know what game or show it's from. Thanks for the question

I remember when I was really young my brother and I had a big box of godgame cards. Neither of us actually knew how to play the game, and we’ve moved twice now so I doubt the box is even still around any more.
Things have a way of not lasting as long as we'd like.
Lots of things I wish I'd held onto from when I was a kid. GODGAME doesn't even make the top of the list. But maybe, with enough luck, I'll find something. One thing at a time, right?

First 1999 card scans
Tumblr media
This is the best I can do right now. Some old digital magazine from 2000 or so that I dug up going over the cards i mentioned being dated 1999. You can see needle piano clearly, and another one. there was a whole sheet of these (maybe even several pages) of the author reviewing the cards. it’s just a smaller selection of all the cards that were part of this. It was something bigger.
Sorry you can’t make out the card very well, but after I sent my contact this I was able to get a better scan of this one at least. see here:
Tumblr media
But this wasn’t the original print of this card if my memory serves. It got reprinted once, and then again with this new art. I liked the older one better , it had the iconic pink background that most of the cards in this era had but some full art cards did replace it like this one does. The black is striking in its own way, though most music cards were never anything special so it’s weird that one of them got even this much stylization this early. Not the most viable thing to build your field around but it can be fun. Something about it weirds me out but I’m hoping to find some of the skiller or champion level cards next and we’ll go from there. There are lots of cool cards just left unseen, but I guess that’s true of all of them. Let’s see if anyone is willing to cooperate
For now, enjoy the Christmas gift. More is to come soon if we’re fortunate
Until next time, Andy
