Haven’t had much time to continue working on a formal Gobbun design. I have been doodling some random goblins though, and a few of Gizi the Gobbun too! (And a random cat boy I guess?)
Still just trying out various things, some pencil first then ink, others just sketching straight with a ballpoint. Just trying to figure out what feels right and if I like how it works up. Sketching in pen feels so unforgiving but I don’t know, it’s so fun and lively too?
Oh I also tried sprucing up the blog a bit, did a quick background photo draw over from a picture I took at a park and a new icon. I’m still experimenting with what the colors are going to be for her. Green skin, but more warm or cool? Probably white fur, maybe with a silvery or blueish slate to it? My first one had pink hair and blue eyes, but I like the little pink cheeks, so I’m thinking maybe brown hair and yellowish eyes. I like brown hair and green eye combos in anime, but with the skin also green I think the yellow eyes could work nicely too.
Still not settled on doing ribbons for the bangs or some sort of beads/metal ties. Oh and jewelry and clothes too! So many things to still to design!

Well that week felt like it went by quick! I’ve been sketching a lot of character concept stuff to figure out some of the features I want to have or possibly try out on the gobbun.
First up was overall height and shape. I really like the internets take on goblin girls as just these absolute shortstacks. Sir Mix-a-lot truly was a prophet. I’ve doodled a number of goblins in previous practice as I had mentioned, 3 head, 4 head, and 5 head, each having their own charm. As much as I like 4 and 5 head for proportions to keep things a bit more in the realistic realm, with this being a bunny crossbreed I thought that shorter, 3 head height would fit better for her. That will have more of a narrow chest and a push out at the hips, so either a bottom heavy hourglass or the oval ribcage and larger square for the hips.
Also since she’s a bunny, I really wanted to push the thick legs, them powerful kickers! Digitigrade and probably just end with some small foot paws, sorta kemono style. I want to blend the goblin skin and the bunny fur feel, so I’m going for a Felicia Darkstalkers like transition from skin to fur. Arms most likely as well. I’m still undecided on the hands or paws. Do I do small and cute, nondescript paws or big ferocious monster hand-paws with big claws or something. I’ll have to play with some more sketches to make a decision. Of course even though the main torso will be skin, she has to have a nice fluffy bunny tail. I typically do a more pointed tail, but maybe a round poof tail would be better? I’ll have to try that out.
Ears are another big decision point. I could go normal goblin, upwards bunny, or even larger lop-ear style bunny. I think I’m leaning towards having them be vertical, but with a big range of motion to flatten out like typical goblin ears. This will be her only ears too, not cosplay style where she has goblin side ears and bunny top ears. So I’m positioning them still on the sides, but pointing upwards. I think I’ll keep the outsides as goblin skin with a fluffier inside? I’ll have to do more sketches and color tests to make a real decision. I still need to try out more hairstyles. I kinda just made the one so far and ran with it, but I like it. It’s a bit messy with some ends that stick up, an ahoge, and I’m not sure what you call it, front pigtails? Twin tail bangs? I went with simple cylinders toward the bottom for now, but I may change those up to bows or something in the future.
Lastly I’m thinking one last furry accent, a neck poof of fur. Not sure how weird that will look once I move to color though, since the torso is all skin as well as the face. Do I have fur around the neck like a collar? I’ll have to play with that and see if I want to keep it.
Phew! Yeah, lots to consider still, but I’m really liking how the initial design is shaping up!

Recently, I’ve been getting into drawing goblins. A departure from my usual more furry subjects, but a welcome one. It’s been a lot of fun practicing new body shapes and features, and it made me start wanting to make some goblin characters of my own. Then I had a funny idea, what if I crossed a bunny with a goblin? A sort of rare goblin crossbreed, perhaps even the only of her kind. Bunny ears and tail, maybe furry, digitigrade legs.
What exactly would she look like, what’s her story? One thing became clear though. She wouldn’t be just a goblin anymore, she’d be a goblin-bunny… she’d be a Gobbun!
And so this place was born. A place for me to just have some fun as I dream and design this new character, develop her world, and maybe figure out a story to tell.
