reminder to fanfic writers that (unlike other unsolicited criticism) if you receive a comment informing you that a reference you made or word you used in your story is racist, that is a gift.

that’s somebody giving their time and knowledge and probably anxietying over how you the writer will react. it is a gift and you should treasure the fact that someone assumed you didn’t know and it was an honest mistake, and they cared enough to tell you, instead of saying yikes and moving on

Oh and can we please talk about how in hospitals, interrogation rooms, psych wards and even schools the symptoms of mental illness are considered hostile/disrespectful/deserving of punishment

Refusing to make eye contact, grabbing at yourself, shaking, stuttering, twitching, whispering to yourself, fisted palms, pacing and so on are all considered “things bad kids do” or “things dangerous people do”

When really it’s just some the majority of mentally ill/ND people do?

Don't forget, other factors that can stop someone from a diagnosis can be:

-The disorder being highly stigmatized where people don't even think it's real

-The disorder (in very severe cases) causing your brain not to even talk about anything that can lead to a diagnosis

-The psychiatrist not taking you seriously

-Caretakers who LIE about you to the psychiatrist that makes it harder to get diagnosis

And any other reason

"Don't self diagnose! Just get a diagnosis"

Riiiiiight, because doing that is so easy.

Unless you're a person of color,

Or AFAB,

Or a child,

Or have unsupportive caretakers,

Or don't have the money,

Or don't have the time,

Or don't experience it to a "severe" degree,

Or are physically disabled and can't go to get a diagnosis,

Or are over/under the typical diagnosis age,

Or don't trust someone enough to tell them what they need to know for a diagnosis,

Or don't have the means to get one

Or don't have someone who can diagnose it in your area.

Stop pretending getting a diagnosis is easy unless you're a white, cis, rich, man who was born in the right place.
