the assholes of the current admin removed the incredible, thorough, scholarly research study that was sponsored by the NPS about LGBTQ+ life in America and American LGBTQ+ history from the NPS website. Suspecting that they would, in fact do this, I downloaded a copy of it, which you can now find (and download) here.

Fuck them for deleting this important piece of scholarly research and writing about LGBTQ+ history in America. We're here and we're queer (as in fuck you). We have ALWAYS been here and no matter what they do, they can't change that.

Just a quick lil thought. I hear a lot of people say “I do think we need to cut government waste, but this is too far”

And I think that a terrible take.

We don’t need to concede anything that’s not true in the name of diplomacy. Who says there is government waste? What proof do we have? They get audited several times a year. And more importantly, what is the ROI on these (relatively) low paying jobs?

The government office I know most about has staff working literally around the clock, even support staff. They’ve been understaffed for years, and doing more work quantifiably than they ever have. Old timers from the 90s/early 2000s talk about Friday happy hours, that would never, ever happen - no one has time and they are exhausted. The Christmas party was hosted by a staff member and a potluck, not a dollar from the budget. If you put in 2 months of 80 hour weeks, there are no bonuses. If you win a top award from DC, there is no money. You do it because you believe in your cause.

These are public servants, with a passion for education, parks, safety, science, whatever. No one is sitting on their hands, no one is over paid. The only people who gain from cutting government offices in the name of efficiency is those in the private sector frothing to get the contracts.

my favorite coworker told me the scenario she thinks of to fall asleep is she stumbles upon a baby sheep and has to raise it and it grows up and she has to shear it and she says she envisions shearing it so carefully that she always falls asleep at that part

one time when I was a barista I was telling my coworker that I suddenly really missed cows. I used to work with cows all the time back home and then I moved away and suddenly it had been four years and nary a cow.

15 minutes later this old guy came up to the counter with his address written on a napkin & he said “me and my wife have a whole herd of dexters and a couple of new calves. come on over any time”

so after work I was like ok fuck it & I drove to the address and I parked at at the gate & I walked down the driveway to the barn and this woman was like “oh my husband told me you might stop by! come see our cows” and she introduced me to every single cow. made my whole week.
