Though the truth about their private lives was never specifically stated and the articles were largely puff-pieces designed to deceive the public and keep the actors bankable, it's of interest to note that many of the headlines alluded to the gossip and whispers that were pervasive at the time, dangling hints about what was really going on behind the scenes.

“The other [scene that stands out above the rest] involved a handsome man, asking a dancing couple if he could cut in. The female partner, expecting his attention, agrees, only to see him dance with her male partner. Jolson then flaps his wrist and says, “Boys will be boys. Woo!”. This scene almost caused the Production Code to reject the film, and was featured in the opening scenes of the documentary film The Celluloid Closet (1996).”

I searched high and low on the internet, but it seems that this 1970's broadcast is one of the lost recordings. Not even the very inquisitive Facebook groups could find it online, and their request towards the BBC was unanswered. If anybody knows more? Thx.
