Minecraft Gothic

-Every day you’re reminded of how alone you are. You watch the sun set forlorn, chest heavy with feelings you can’t place. Where is everyone?

-You’ve been traversing the desert for a while now, and you’re starting to get nervous. Hasn’t it… been a bit long since you’ve seen another biome? You keep walking, but there’s no sign of anything other than sand. How long have you been walking, anyways? Surely you’ll reach the end soon. You need to. You’re so, so hungry.

-You tame your first parrot. It mimics the sounds of creatures around you. You think it’s cute. When the two of you are alone, it makes an indescribable sound that sends chills crawling up your spine. You’ve never heard that sound in the game before. You leave the parrot and don’t come back for it. You never hear the sound again.

-After days of walking, you finally come across a village. There are no villagers. You have not been here before. What happened to them? You can’t bring yourself to sleep in the empty houses. You can’t.

-You could’ve sworn you haven’t explored this forest yet. So where are these torches coming from? You are alone, right?

-At first, it was just your rabbits and chickens going missing from your farm. But then the odd pig and sheep began disappearing, as well. When you check this morning, one of your cows is gone. Whatever’s taking your animals in the night is either growing bolder, or hungrier.

-A soft melody begins to play from somewhere. You haven’t crafted a jukebox, and you don’t yet own a single music disc. What song is this? You can’t quite place it, but it’s almost… familiar.

-The monsters don’t attack you anymore. Every one you’ve seen has left you alone, going east without sign of stopping. Are they going towards something? Are they running away from something else? You don’t want to find out.

Minecraft Gothic

- NEW WORLD. You awaken into the long dream. A land full of promise, unsullied by the cruel hands of God. It is not a cold place, but you are about to make it so.

- The world is old, very, very old. Older than the gods. And yet it is new once again. They aren’t here now and it is reborn into its innocence.

- You feel that there’s something you’re not remembering. A memory, an identity, long ago. but it is gone now. The slate is wiped clean each time you die and there is no use trying to go back again.

- No matter how much you search, you are the only one of your kind. The villagers, you discover, are human. And yet you cannot speak to them. You are alien, a god cast to earth. You do not belong here, among living things.

- Are you the sole survivor of some forgotten devastation? Were there once more like you? The loneliness is killing you. Immortality is only a gift if you have a purpose to fulfill.

- You are hounded by the nagging feeling that someone has been here before you. Evidence reveals itself in torches placed in untouched caves and villages already ransacked. You ignore it.

- The music is as warm and familiar to your ears as a mother’s lullaby. It holds you. It whispers, “do not worry. you have been here before and that is alright”.

- You are cruel to the world. You hurt it, kill it, burn it. Yet it still loves you. The universe loves you.

- The dragon is the last link to your memories, your lost identity. You slay her anyway. Who knows what you could have been before? You are afraid of the stranger who lived in your skin.

- The End. How fitting, you think. This is the End of the Old World, the final piece spared from destruction only for you to close the door forever. And now it, too, is ending.
