Dabi revealing Endeavor’s abuse is so much bigger than the Todoroki family

He’s revealing that a man who was torturing his children was able to become number two hero.

He’s revealing that the man who did this was able to hide it from the public with next to no effort.

He’s revealing that there were absolutely no measures in place that would have prevented this from happening. No one at the HPSC thought to check in with the families of individuals as powerful as Endeavor

No one thought to do an investigation after Rei’s mental breakdown and Shoto was burned

No one thought it was suspicious that Touya died soon after

No one took notice of how Shoto was reluctant to use his fire in the sports festival, not even the school staff that works closely with Endeavor.

Because no one in this hero society doubts the heroes’ moral integrity. The citizens of Japan simply don’t perceive it as a possibility that their heroes could do such evil selfish things under their own noses and still succeed.

Endeavor is genuinely good at his job, he’s talented and hardworking. So of course no one expected this of him, the people of Japan put him on a pedestal with All Might and every other hero.

By exposing Endeavor, Dabi is exposing the whole of hero society. He’s exposing the rampant hero worship of this society. He’s exposing the incompetence of the HPSC. He’s exposing the heroes who have done evil selfish things much like Endeavor. He’s exposing the media for painting heroes as perfect and flawless. He’s exposing every single citizen that saw him and his family’s pain and ignored their cries for help.

Obviously this is gonna negatively effect the other members of the Todoroki family. I’m not saying he’s entirely in the right in the way he went about doing this. Obviously killing people is wrong. Obviously Rei is gonna lose a lot of progress. Obviously Natsuo, Fuyumi, and Shouto are gonna be meet with a lot of negative attention from the public and the people around them, etc.

But Dabi is doing something that has the potential to change so much, and I’m tired of people whining about the interpersonal drama of the Todoroki family when what he’s doing is so, so much bigger than that.

Buckle IN folks cause I NEED to talk about how Deku has NEVER valued his existence beyond his heroing ability.

Not as a son

Not as a friend

Not as a student

Not as a clever and quick thinking person

Not as genuinely loving and caring individual

Not as child who’s safety matters

Not as human being with needs and feelings

If that wasn’t enough add the fact that his being a hero isn’t even about him, it’s about what he can do for Other people

Everything he does, every skill he learns, every moment of self care, even his bs’ing around time all loop back to “how can this further me as a hero?” Even the trip to the mall and the pool was rationalized by him for hero stuff. The boy literally does modified wall sits in class and grip strengthening while studying. I have check high and low and the ONLY thing we know about Deku that isn’t hero related is his favorite freaking food!

Heroing could be a life ending career but it’s not a sustainable life long career?!! He’s gonna go down with the ship or be force into retirement with nothing for just himself but some AM merch and KATSUDON???!! Why?!!!

Bakugo wants to be a hero just as bad but he’s got a sense of personhood outside of it.

He wants to be the best at everything he does, not just heroing

We know he likes mt. climbing

We’ve seen that he has some kitchen skills

He can play the drums

He values his education for the sake of being educated

He wants to be a hero to prove himself to himself

When Bakugo said Deku “just doesn’t consider himself” he really meant it down to the most barebones of life. We’ve never seen a single moment of Deku doing something purely for himself just cause it sparked joy.

It’s hard to see at first because of Bakugos extreme and unhealthy behavior, but he’s actually not completely at fault for how their relationship broke down. I mean how do you even start to get close to someone like that?

Yes, Deku held out his hand but it’d be like grabbing at smoke. Dekus they kind of individual that they’ll be your everything riend, would give you the shirt off his back, but it doesn’t feel like you can be his(Iida actually says I wanna be there for you like you were for me and we ain’t heard from our speedy boi since) like you wouldn’t even know they’re struggling until it’s too late.

Bakugo has a hard time accepting help but it’s always very clear when he needs it. Deku is damn near in capable of realizing he needs it, just fully accepted that he’d have to shatter his limbs a few dozen times to master OFA and that it was on him to do so and everyone around him except RG and Aizawa(who’s main point was your not useful if your down) also accepted this. If I’d been Dekus friend I’d have lost my fucken mind, and Bakugo DOES in the first Deku vs Kacchan

Look at his face, he’s god damn horrified! Not only did he lose the match but Dekus arm is ruined

He’s clearly upset as he looks up at the disctrution and sees how Deku played him

But when the smoke settles and he sees what Deku looks like he completely freezes, looks like he’s having an out of body experience honestly.

It’s not until after AM victory screeches “HERO TEAM WINS”🥳 and Dekus already being carted off broken and unconscious to the nurse to be safely rebuilt that he actually starts the whole “if we went all out” panic attack rant. I think Bakugo doubles down on his inferiority/superiority complex simply because that’s 3x easier to deal with than trying to wrap your head around whatever tf Dekus got going on with his idol and blowing up his fucken limbs.

Bakugo tries to build a fortress to keep people out, Deku freely gives you a key to his quaint little cottage heart but he’s never home.

ok but can we stop pretending kaminari and ashido failed their midterm exam becuase they were stupid?

they failed because they went against the actually most powerful and intelligent character in the staff who was most probably actively trying to kill them. he was also the only one who wasnt fighting them head on but by destroying the whole field to crash them. if not their top tier agility and speed they actually could have died in there. and they didnt stop running for their lives for thirty minutes. and they didnt even know if that was part of the exam.

it was an incredibly cruel choice of aizawas to pick nezu, someone who would take every single chance to ‘get revange’ on humans, against two teenagers who started active training to be heroes 6 months ago.

i dont think anyone would pass an exam like that and i dont think even most of the teachers could go against nezu and win.

they failed because they went against an unbeatable character, not because theyre stupid

I’ve gotten so many questions about how I read this scene. So here’s my reading, and some cultural notes:

Telling someone to die in Japanese has a vastly different feeling than it does in English. While an English speaker would be extremely offended or disturbed to be told that, the phrase is in the daily vocabulary of young people in Japan. In fact, I challenge you to find a manga that DOESN’T have a character shouting 死ね！ (shine) at some point in time. Little kids in Japan yelling “Go die!” at their friends is basically the equivalent of kids in America saying “You’re not my friend anymore!” Of course it isn’t something they mean literally – it’s just what children say when they are upset. So when Bakugou tells Deku to go die and Deku doesn’t even flinch, it’s because he’s probably been hearing it since he was in pre-school, so it isn’t a big deal to him or anyone else around him.

In Japanese, these lines sound very immature and silly. Kacchan reads like a brat throwing a tantrum all the time. It’s impossible to take him even remotely seriously – He’s just a mess of impotent rage, whose obsession with Deku is being completely ignored in favor of Deku focusing on his own priorities. The more aggressive and abusive language he chooses, the less serious he sounds. He’s just so over-the-top that he winds up in this place where he wants to be intimidating and impressive, but sort of just flounders like a try-hard instead. I’m so excited to see how he’ll act in his pending team-up with Deku!

Few people said that design of redrawn bell-legged @therealjacksepticeye​ from my last post (click here) looked like a MHA character. So, thanks to @jen-dot-net​, I decided to turn Sean into a real MHA hero!! Primal design is changed a bit, still the whole outfit idea stayed similar.

The hairstyle is taken from last Sean’s photo on Instagram (click here), and the general look has been sampled from bell-legged Sean from his subreddit (click here). Hope y’all like it! Also in case someone would draw or write something based on this idea, please tag me (and Jack of course!!).

Full quirk description (because it contains few detail which I couldn’t fit in reference sheet): After hearing human speech, recreates the exact sound multiplying its volume with own voice; everyone who hears the echoed version receives a strong headaches and the effect of thousands of bells ringing in their minds. This helps to quickly stun opponents during battles, however might be used against the allies as well. To avoid negative effects, allies are supposed to cover their ears with thick soundproof materials or/and stand far from one using this quirk. The last one themselves cannot be dazed with own voice, but has very sensitive hearing, hence might be dazed by others.
