a place for me to talk about the music i'm listening to and like, 10 songs a month, split into two posts a month plus occasionally other things I like (movies, books, records, etc.)

1. I Know a Girl Called Johnny - Rowland S. Howard
youtube
So I literally found this song yesterday and I’m obsessed (shout out my discovery weekly finally doing something right). I’d heard of Howard’s other band The Birthday Party but to be honest, I was never the biggest fan (sorry lol I know) but this song is crazy crazy good and not really like the birthday party at all. Idk how to describe it but it’s dreamy post punkish and gives me Jesus and mary chain vibes
Other Rowland S. Howard songs I like: I don’t know any others!

2. Girl in A Band - Book by Kim Gordon
I got this book a little while ago but I haven’t gotten around to putting it on here. This is my absolute favorite book I’ve ever read! Kim Gordon is my ultimate inspiration and her writing is extra beautiful. I recommend this book to anyone, a fan of her and sonic youth or not!
Records of The Month! (Well really half month but you get the idea)
Going to start showcasing my favorite records I’ve gotten between the time period of each post! This first records of the month are:Â

2. Sonic Youth’s Daydream Nation 2xLP
Another Sonic Youth record to add to my collection! On my slow quest to collect them all. Hopefully, Goo will be next!

That’s all for this month!! Until next time :)

I’m Back: February, The Finale (Part 3) Until Next Month...
3/3 songs I’ve been feeling right now!
1. Run Down The Stairs - Beat Happening
youtube
This song is very cute and quirky and very beat happening. If you know this band you’ll know their sound, and if not check it out! I decided to start exploring this band a bit more because I really like Calvin Johnson and k records! This is song is great and very cute and I don’t have much else to say about it :)
Other Beat Happening songs I like: What’s Important
2. Warsaw - Joy Division
youtube
I kept hearing people talk about Joy Division’s debut album “Warsaw” so when I was looking on their Spotify page and found this I was shocked because I didn’t think it was released on streaming platforms. Then, when I listened to it I was shocked again because it sounded absolutely nothing like what they did on their album I am more familiar with, “Unknown Pleasures.” Needless to say, I love it and it’s a banger.
Other Joy Division songs I like: Disorder, She’s Lost Control, Shadowplay, Love Will Tear Us Apart
3. (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction - DEVO
youtube
I LOVE DEVO!! I just recently decided to listen to their debut album in full front to back and It is incredible and I’ve been listening to it non stop. If you’ve been keeping up with these you will know how Gut Feeling/ (Slap Your Mammy) is one of my favorite songs of all time. DEVO has really quickly put themselves in my all time favorites as well! Also I got tickets to see the rolling stones in concert which makes this song extra cool (cus i like this version better than their version hehe)
Other DEVO songs I like: Gut Feeling/Slap Your Mammy, Girl U Want, Shrivel-Up, Mongoloid, Uncontrollable Urge, Praying Hands
4. Somebody to Love - Jefferson Airplane
youtube
I recently came across a bunch of interviews on the Dick Cavett Show and there was one I liked in particular with Joni Mitchell and Jefferson Airplane! I’d always known about Jefferson Airplane but decided to listen to them again after a while and I love them a lot, especially this album. <3
Other Jefferson Airplane songs I like: Embryonic Journey, White Rabbit, My Best Friend, Today
5. Golden Slumbers - The Beatles
youtube
I mean what else can I say, it’s the fucking Beatles. I’ve really been liking this song lately :) and this album I’ve come back to lately as well. Overall good good good stuff man.
Other Beatles songs I like: Her Majesty, Oh! Darling, You Never GIve Me Your Money, I Saw Her Standing There, This Boy, The Fool on the Hill, I Will (and many many more)

I’m Back Jan/Feb: Part 2
more cool songs i’ve been liking this past month and a half!
2/3
1. One Million Kisses - Half Japanese
youtube
This song ever since I found it has meant a lot to me. It is very reminiscent of this other band I like called beat happening. Anyways, I listened to this song a lot in December but around Valentines day I came back to it. It’s just a solid song, very cute, very catchy, and I love it. :)
Other Half Japanese songs I like: I haven’t listened to any other songs but I will get on it!
2. Atta Girl - Heavenly
youtube
Alright, so I CANNOT BELIEVE I haven’t talked about Heavenly yet on this page. Heavenly is probably one of my favorites if not my favorite band of all time. Literally, I cannot praise them enough. They write the best lyrics, the best music in general and just, fuck, they’re really fucking good. Atta girl is probably my favorite and it’s also the first song I ever listened to by them. All I have left to say is you’re welcoming for blessing your ears.Â
Other Heavenly songs I like: Our Love is Heavenly, P.U.N.K Girl, Itchy Chin, Boyfriend Stays the Same, Trophy Girlfriend, Space Manatee, I’m Not Scared of You, Tool, and every other song they’ve ever made.
3. Ono Soul - Thurston Moore
youtube
Thurston Moore’s solo endeavors have never really excited me all too much but I recently came across the music video for Ono Soul and I actually really enjoy this song! If you’re not into noise music just yet (trust me you will be one day) maybe pass on this song for now and start getting into Sonic Youth first.Â
Other Thurston song’s I like (I’m just gonna put sonic youth songs here cus i haven’t listened to a lot of thurston’s solo stuff): Silver Rocket, 100%, Incinerate, Tom Violence, The Diamond Sea
4. Third Uncle - Brian Eno
youtube
Brian Eno is truly one of the more diverse musicians in history, this man has made such a range of music it’s mind blowing. This is another song that took a couple listens before I really enjoyed it. My friend matt showed it to me and it’s another one of those songs where you have to already have heard other weird songs before you can truly enjoy it. Also if you’re not sure why I like this song so much wait till the lyrics come in that’s when it really gets good. :)
Other Brian Eno songs I like: Burning Airlines Give You So Much More, I’ll Come Running, 1/2
5. Fire in Cairo - The Cure
youtube
I. LOVE. THIS. SONG. Something about it just reminds me of summertime and just, I can’t describe it, just listen to it, it’s good. I was in love with the cure’s debut about a year ago and decided to listen to it again and this song has really pushed itself into my favorite songs of all time.Â
Other The Cure songs I like: Fascination Street, A Night Like This, Boys Don’t Cry, Grinding Halt, Pictures of You, A Letter to Elise, A Forest

I’m back: End of January &February
yea so i didn’t have anytime to update this recently but here we are i’m back with cool new songs gonna make three posts !
1/3
1. Lola - The Raincoats
youtube
The raincoats are certainly not the most conventional of bands but they do have their moments especially with their cover of the kink’s “Lola” I’ve been listening to this song for a little while now but something about it this month just hits. Ive come to like this version better than the original! (no shade to the kinks but the raincoats rock). I originally found this band in the movie 20th Century Women (I found a lot of good bands from that movie check it out!) and didn’t automatically love their off-beat, quirky, tunes but once I heard Lola everything changed.Â
Other Raincoat’s songs I like: Fairytale in the Supermarket
2. I Wish I Was a Fire - October Country
youtube
October Country is a band I just recently came across. I first heard their song “My Girlfriend is a Witch” which is just an absolute banger. I played that song at least 100 times in a row and danced around to it in my room. However I decided to choose this song to represent them. It’s sweet and fun and another one of their songs I really enjoy and might be an easier first song to listen to for those not used to noisy music. The entirety of their debut album (and only album) “October Country” is something I heavily reccomend.
Other October Country songs I like: My Girlfriend is a Witch, The End of the Line, October Country, and She’s been away (and all the other ones too)
3. Today Your Love, Tomorrow the World - The Ramones
youtube
Alright I’m just gonna come out and say it this is probably the Ramones’ best song. Argue with me all you want but... anyways recently after watching a Henry Rollins interview, I decided to listen to the Ramones’ debut in full because I’d only ever heard “Blitzkrieg Bop”, sonic youth’s cover of “Beat on the Brat” (which doesn’t really county), “I Wanna be Sedated” and “I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend” and let me just say I fell in love. Now I know why this is considered one of the best punk rock albums of all times, and in general one of the greatest albums of all time. Overall though I fell the most in love with the closing track here, “Today your love tomorrow the world.” Quickly after my first listen i went out and bought this baby on vinyl-Â
Other Ramones songs I like: Chain Saw, Judy is a Punk, Baby I love you, Havana Affair, Sheena is a punk rocker (and the songs mentioned above)
4. Stephanie Says - The Velvet Underground
youtube
I am a long time lover of the Velvet Underground however I just heard this song for the first time more recently. I don’t have much to say other than it’s the usual type of sweet you get from a velvets song with great lyrics and pretty sounds. Overall great track from a great band.
Other Velvet Underground songs I like: Andy’s Chest, After Hours, There She Goes Again, Who Loves the Sun (and many many more the list goes on)
5. Soma - The Smashing Pumpkins
youtube
I’ve never been the biggest smashing pumpkins fan, don’t get me wrong I love them, they’re talented, they’ve made incredible songs! they just weren’t always the first band I’d pick to listen to you know? but this song decided to make it’s way into my disover weekly and it is a fucking good song. It starts out with this slow lullabye/melody and goes into these great, heavy guitars and drums. I love it I love it I love it. New favorite smashing pumpkins track.
Other Smashing pumpkins songs I like: 1979, Bye June, To Forgive, Quiet, Luna, Stumbeleine

Picks of January 2020 (1/2)
So it’s the new year and I’m back! haven’t watched any movies but i’ve discovered lots of new music this month and without further or do... let’s get into it.
1. Creatures of Love - Talking Heads
youtube
So starting out the year I decided to dive back into listening to the Talking Heads’ album Little Creatures once more. Back in my tender middle school days, the Talking Heads realllly came in clutch when coping with growing up. In particular off this album I’ve been revisiting Road to Nowhere, And She Was, Perfect World, and this track of course. This one in particular has especially been my favorite as of late. Love songs have been dominating my playlists and this is one of my favorites.
Other Talking Heads songs I recommend: Don’t Worry About the Government, Nothing But Flowers, The Big Country, Psycho Killer, and Born Under Punches
2. In the Sun - Blondie
youtube
Let me start this off by saying, I absolutely LOVE Blondie. Something about her whole vibe and music has caught my attention as of late and she is a total badass. I remember when I was younger my dad was always bringing home blondie CD’s but I never really paid much attention to it (I’m stupid like that if you haven’t noticed a pattern yet of me not listening to my dad when he shows me his favorite musicians). I’ve recently been getting more into learning about the underground scene in new york city in the 70s (cbgb’s, the ramones, and that kinda stuff) and blondie is definitely a favorite from this scene.
Other Blondie songs I recommend: Hanging on the Telephone, and Once I had a love (AKA the disco song)
3. Into the Groovey - Ciccone Youth
youtube
Ciccone Youth is one of the side projects of the band members of sonic youth. I recently discovered them after reading about one of their song’s in Kim Gordon’s memoir. I’ve never liked Madonna but this cover of her song is so addictive to listen to. The rawness of it and rough vocals and sounds are really fun to listen to. This month especially I’ve been really really really into Sonic Youth and exploring their discography and some of their more rough-around-the-edges songs. They are truly incredible and I can’t say enough good things about them. they’ve quickly risen to my most listened to band and I’m 100% (get it) obsessed.
More Sonic Youth songs I recommend!: Cotton Crown, Sugar Kane, Candle, Bull in the Heather, and Starpower
4. A Lizard State - King Krule
youtube
With the recent announcement of Archy’s next album, "MAN, ALIVE!”, coming soon I’ve decided to return to listening to him. This song, in particular, has been on repeat because the beat is just so fun to jump around to and the lyrics are something I can relate to very heavily right now. Just overall this track is very relevant in my life and I love it and I love Archy and I’m excited for what’s coming.
Other King Krule songs I like: Foreign 2, Easy Easy, Border Line, Dum Surfer, and Logos
5. Till There Was You - The Beatles
youtube
To close out what i’ve been listening to this half of the month we have The Beatles. I mean what is there to say that hasn’t been said. Their discography speaks for itself and they are undeniably great. I recently discovered this song and I haven’t been able to get enough of it.
Other Beatles songs I like!: Her Majesty, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, I Will, She’s Leaving Home, A Day in the Life, and I Saw Her Standing There
As always, thanks to anyone if they ever read this and i hope you like these songs too, till next time

Picks of December 2019
Hello! Here are some of my music, movie, and other art picks of the final month of the decade! This year I’ve really been getting into 90s rock, permanent wave, slowcore, and punk rock. This month especially I’ve been interested in the music of the 70s and 90s acoustic songs. It’s been really cool seeing my taste in things progress to where they are now and I’m excited to see what else I find in the new year! Without further or do, here’s what I’ve been vibing with this month. :)
Music:
1. Gut Feeling/(Slap Your Mammy) - DEVO
youtube
After rewatching the movie 20th Century Women for the first time in many months, I had a resurgence of my love for the Talking Heads, Black Flag, and the Buzzcocks, and a newfound love for DEVO. My dad when I first got into the Talking Heads at the tender age of about 12 or 13 told me about this band called DEVO. He saw them live for the first time when he was about 17 or 18. Anyways, I’ve grown up with them in a sense but never really paid attention to the work they did. I’m glad I finally decided to give a listen to their debut album “Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are DEVO!” It’s led me down a rabbit hole of discovering new music and the culture of the 70s (which I’ve come to hold close to my heart). This song has become a sort of anthem for me. I’ve spent countless hours listening to it on loop and having dance parties with myself. The intro comes in subtly leaving you excited for what is to come. After an astounding 2 minutes of heavy drums, keys and a guitar riff that will remain in your head for days, the lyrics come in heavy “Something about the way you taste, makes me want to clear my throat” making it impossible to resist the urge to jump up and down shouting along with the band. Truly a great song would definitely recommend.
Other DEVO songs I recommend: Uncontrollable Urge and Jurisdiction of Love
2. St. Ides Heaven - Elliott Smith
youtube
There really isn’t much to say that hasn’t already been said about Elliott Smith. In my opinion, he is one of the greatest songwriters of all time. His haunting lyrics on this song, in particular, have stuck with me this month and this is yet another song I’ve had playing on repeat lately. It is simple in production and instrumentation but I think that’s what makes it beautiful.
Other Elliott Smith Songs I recommend: Whatever (Folk song in C), Miss Misery, Happiness/The Gondola Man, I Don’t Think I’m Ever Gonna Figure it Out, and Condor Ave
3. Halah - Mazzy Star
youtube
The music of Mazzy Star/ Hope Sandoval has really been there for me this year. There’s not much to say other than this song is beautiful beyond compare. It is the first track off of my favorite Mazzy Star project, She Hangs Brightly. I would definitely recommend this song and band to everyone.
Other Mazzy Star songs I recommend: Blue Flower, Fade Into You, and Rose Blood
4. Pop Queen - Noise Addict
youtube
This is an acoustic ballad by 90′s Australian indie rock band, Noise Addict. I haven’t done too much research on the band but from what I know, they were a group of thirteen-year-olds led by lead singer/songwriter Ben Lee. This song, in particular, Pop Queen, is a cute, very raw and very unproduced single with simple yet enticing and creative lyrics. It was the lyrics of their songs that really got me attached to the band. There are many references to other bands I enjoy like the pixies and pavement in their songs as well as what it feels like to be a teenager, something I can relate to as of this moment in time. (I’ve only listened to this ep, Young & Jaded, but I expect to like most of their other songs as well.)
Other Noise Addict songs I recommend: Wish I was Him
5. Beechwood Park - The Zombies
youtube
The Zombies are yet another band my dad loves. I remember him buying Zombies CDs when I was younger so back in September I decided to check them out. I fell instantly in love with their album, Begin Here. This month I decided to make playlists dedicated to my favorite songs from the decades 1960s-1990s. While searching through my library of saved songs I came across this beauty. I hadn’t listened to this song in probably about a year so I decided to listen to it again and it was probably one of the best decisions I’ve made this month. The zombies make these incredible psychedelic songs and I think Beechwood park is now my new favorite. I definitely recommend this song to everyone. (Especially when you’re driving late at night, this song feels extra special)
Other Zombies songs I recommend: She’s Not There, The Way I Feel Inside, and Going Out of My Head
6. Like Dylan in the Movies - Belle & Sebastian
https://youtu.be/3Sf4B8aercg
A friend of mine back in September introduced me to the band, Belle & Sebastian. This month, I was lucky enough to get two of their albums, The Boy With the Arab Strap and If You’re Feeling Sinister, on vinyl. I quickly fell back in love with Like Dylan in the Movies and it’s become a new favorite.Â
Other Belle & Sebastian songs I recommend: She’s Losing it, Is it Wicked Not to Care, Get Me Away from Here, I’m Dying, and The Boy Done Wrong Again
7. Androgynous Mind - Sonic Youth
https://youtu.be/FvpbB8g0e64
Now, I’m not about to sit here and tell you that this song is any good. In fact, it’s really just Thurston Moore screaming “hey hey it’s okay” over and over again, but I’ve come to really enjoy listening to it. I truly believe Sonic Youth is a band for everybody. Their entire body of work is extremely diverse, experimental, and different. If you don’t like one song keep exploring their discography and you’ll probably find something you’ll enjoy eventually. For me personally, I love their albums EVOL, Daydream Nation, and Sister the most. Back to Androgynous Mind, however, this is a punchy punk tune that really gets you in the mood to bang your head. If you’re into noise rock/punk and just like music that makes you want to move, this song is for you. However, if you’re more into pop-y music, maybe skip this song.
Other Sonic Youth songs I recommend: Schizophrenia, Shadow of a Doubt, Teen Age Riot, The Diamond Sea - Radio Edit, and Incinerate
Movies & TV:
This month I was lucky enough to see quite a few movies that stuck with me.
1. Honey Boy (2019)
Let me tell you, I was really, really looking forward to this movie. Over the summer I watched every Shia LaBeouf movie I could get my hands on. He became one of my favorite actors and I loved learning more about his story. Noah Jupe portrayed a young version of Shia under the name “Otis.” He stole the show. His acting in this movie was absolutely incredible and I’m now a huge fan. Overall this movie was shot beautifully and extremely well written. A new favorite
Other Shia LaBeouf movies I recommend: American Honey and HolesÂ
2. 20th Century Women (2016)
I watched this movie for the first time around the time it was initially released. This is the movie that introduced me to the work of Elle Fanning, Greta Gerwing and Annette Benning. Three incredible women whose work I admire very much. The story is about a young boy named Jamie growing up in the year 1970s. We see him go through the struggles of growing up without a father, falling in love, and just, in general, being a teenager. It is a very powerful movie that I connected to instantly upon watching it for the first time. It was recently added to Netflix so I decided to watch it again and once more I’ve become obsessed. 10/10 would recommend.
3. Bojack Horseman (2014-present)
To be completely honest, I wasn’t expecting to like this show, let alone binge all 6 seasons in a span of 2 weeks. Another good friend of mine recommended it to me and I’m very glad I trusted her judgment. This show was unexpectedly deep and tackled subjects I didn’t think any tv show would ever cover. As someone who struggles with anxiety and depression, I found comfort in Bojack’s character and his struggles with mental health and life problems. This is show is very important and I’m very excited for the series finale to be released.
Alright! That’s it for this month, this year, and this decade! I’ll be sure to write up some more things in January. I think I’m planning on making two posts a month of what I’m listening to and watching. This was fun.
