diss a point
I am not sure why I hold you to a higher standard; you are really just like everybody else. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, I guess.

coffee - from forever ago
"I have never been the one to order coffee," I say as I held a glass of water to my lips. "Doctors say it's quite bad for you. It raises your stress levels and causes your heartbeat to skip."
You laughed and pushed your cup of coffee towards me, daring me to take a sip.
So I did.
One sip turned to one cup, and one cup led to long nights, anxiety, and an addiction to the feeling of a racing heart.
Then, coffee was no longer coffee. It became the smell of your shirt. It became the warmth of your body next to mine. It became the color of your eyes before I muddled it with creamer. Suddenly, you were the only thing I tasted when I had a cup.
I wondered if doctors had someone like you in their lives. Perhaps that's why their hearts raced uncontrollably too. I think I should be worried, but I can't really bring myself to care. For now, I like coffee. Fuck what the doctors say.

To All The Boys and Girls That Never Saw Themselves In Movies
Is To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before over-hyped?
To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before is a novel by Jenny Han that was adapted into a movie. It was released on August 17, 2018 and has been receiving the absolute best response with a score of 94% in the Tomatometer, and 7.8/10 in IMBD. People have not stopped talking about it since its release, and some people are starting to get sick of it.
To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before is over-hyped. Her letters to her crushes get sent out, they learn about her feelings, then spoiler alert, she ends up with one of them. Cliche! ---- Gee, you must be great company at the movies.
Look, before deciding to sit down and watch the hour-long movie, you knew what you were getting yourself into. You knew it was going to be a cheesy, teen movie. If you wanted something epiphany-inducing you should’ve watched something else. To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before may only be a teen movie to some, but it may be a start of something more.
First and foremost, what’s got people so excited is the Asian representation. It’s rare to see Hollywood movies with Asian characters that aren’t just for comic-relief or just a quirky sidekick, and it’s even rarer to see an Asian lead, one that isn’t associated with Kung-Fu. I thought about why Asian representation mattered so much to me, when I pretty much grew up only watching movies with western leads anyway. The answer lied on Lara Jean’s (or rather, Lana Condor’s) nose. I grew up thinking I had to have a straight, pointy, western nose to be deemed pretty; but when I saw how Peter Kavinsky looked at LJ, like she was the prettiest girl ever, though I’m aware they’re acting, I still thought maybe there isn’t anything wrong with my nose. I know it’s a shallow reason, but really for the longest time I didn’t like my nose, and when I saw someone that was a lead in a Hollywood production that looked like me, I felt a lot prettier and I finally saw someone I could emulate and not look like I was trying too hard. Whether they realize it or not, It’s important for any Asian to see that exciting stories and opportunities aren’t only presented to conventionally pretty western men and women.
Second, the story and the visuals are great! I hate to be that guy, but book is better. Although the movies definitely do them justice. The build-up of Peter and LJ’s relationship was cute and I didn’t feel like it was rushed, unlike some movies. It also shows the importance of communication; I absolutely loved how they became friends before they finally became lovers. It also shows the importance of friendship, family, and how it’s okay to let loose and be a teenager.
And I’m no expert in movie visuals but the whole movie is eye-candy --- hello Peter Kavinsky! The visuals were light and pretty and definitely added to the feel-good vibe the movie was aiming for.
All in all, To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before is hyped, maybe even overly-hyped, but rightfully so. We’re hyping it up because it’s a cute, uncomplicated love story that stars an Asian lead, and it makes us feel good. We aren’t hyping it up to look like the next Titanic or something. We’re hyping it up because it was something we thoroughly enjoyed watching, and it seems like it could be the start of something better.
So, To All The Asian Boys and Girls That Never Saw Themselves In Movies, sit tight, the letters are out.
Watch To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before on Netflix and Crazy Rich Asians in Cinemas!
