France bids farewell to successful Paralympics

A summer sporting bonanza, which started under pouring rain on July 26 with a remarkable opening ceremony on the Seine River, was ending Sunday with the Paralympics closing at a rain-soaked Stade de France.

It lowers the curtain on successful back-to-back events that captivated fans and raised the bar high for others to follow. Good luck Los Angeles in 2028.

As the stadium was lit up in the blue, white and red colors of the French national flag, a trumpet player played the national anthem "La Marseillaise" and Paralympic flag-bearers then made their way into the stadium carrying national flags to the sound of "Chariots of Fire" by Vangelis.

"Everyone can see what an inclusive world is like," Tony Estanguet, the head of the Paris Olympics in 2024, said in his closing speech. "Now there is no turning back."

Packers' QB options if Jordan Love injury is serious

Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love could not finish Friday's season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles after he suffered an apparent lower left leg injury with 6 seconds left in a 34-29 loss in São Paulo.

Love needed help to get to the sideline, and while he appeared to be moving slightly better as he walked to the locker room after the game, he still needed assistance from head athletic trainer Nate Weir and running back Josh Jacobs under each one of his arms.

Coach Matt LaFleur was twice asked about Love's status in his postgame news conference and both times said: "I don't know."

Among a row of outstretched arms and bows in the Paralympic men’s individual compound para archery competition, it’s easy to find Matt Stutzman; look instead for an outstretched leg.

Stutzman, 41, who lives in Fairfield, Iowa, has competed in the Paralympics as its only armless archer for a long time. But he has proved to be a trailblazer — more and more armless people are competing in the sport.
