Marc is the design engineer for the Jabiru Supercharger project. He wants more HORSEPOWER on his Lightning Classic. Edge Performance had tried turbocharging Jabirus a number of years ago (gen3), but had exhaust valve problems. Marc has selected a boost range that will not over stress the engine but will support a horsepower increase to 150. Marc is contemplating the best drive mechanism from the spline socket off the flywheel. Straight pulley, CVT and hydraulic motor are currently under consideration. GRT Avionics is providing an EIS 6000 (used) for monitoring. Greg Hobbs has built the engine stand. The stand will perform multiple functions when not running the supercharger equipped Jabiru 3300A. It will be used for creating cowling modifications for different engine/airframe applications. Marc has done extensive research on various approaches for maintaining full HP (increased from 120 to 150hp) up to 10,000 feet msl. The initial design will incorporate the same Rotrex supercharger (centrifugal) used on the Flying Legend Rotax 912. It will also use a single point fuel injection throttle body provided by Rotec out of Australia. Smooth Boost out of SW Virginia markets a hot rod waste gate that can provide a p.s.i. relief to avoid >41in of manifold pressure. Stay tuned.

April 30 at Geronimo. Greg’s working on the cowling modifications and the primer has been completed on several pieces. Most notably, the new horizontal stabilizer has been fit, removed and primed. The rudder is taped after repair of the bottom and soon the paint matching will commence.
