“C’mere-“ She tugged on his arm, looking up at the man who had seemed frozen to the spot. “Travis?”

“I shouldn’t-“ He shakes, his whole body shuddering, “I’m not-“

She slides her hand down until she’s got his wrist in her grasp, pulling until his massive hand rests upon her protruding, very pregnant belly. A gasp escapes past his lips.

A small kick.

“You feel that?” She smiles up at him, watching him soften but panic seems to still be rushing through his body. “Sit with me, please, Travis.”

He obeys, sitting on the edge of the bed, it slightly dipping under both of them.

“Thank you,” she murmurs before putting her hand over his, trailing alongside his knuckles. She tries to gauge his emotion, but he’s sinking lower into the mattress, just staring at her stomach.

Then, she hears him sniffle. A smothered sound, as if he tried to cover it up, but it just makes it worse because he does it again.

She cocks her head, lifting her free hand to his hair and smoothing her fingers through the dark mess, careful of the thin spot in the back that he’s self conscious about. She keeps her voice low and calm, “They’ll love you no matter what, you know that right?”

He doesn’t answer, just nuzzles further into her with a slight whine, his breath hot on the skin of her stomach.

“You’ve poured so much of your love into the both of us, Travis,” her hand slips down and cups his cheek, her thumb pressing and smoothing along his jaw, “Whatever you’re thinking, you are wrong. Our baby is going to be strong and healthy, and you’re going to be there for every little thing that happens, okay?”

That seems to trigger something and he looks up at her from red-ringed eyes, he gives her a wobbly smile before pressing a kiss to her stomach.

“I love you. We love you, Travis.”

He presses another kiss, closing his eyes tightly as he snuggled into her– into them.

“I love you, Laur,” Another kiss, ”I love you, BB.”

It’s her turn to sniffle and wipe away a tear as she looks down at her little family. They might be two very broken people, but together they’ve created something special.
