Anything That Truly Matters - Tristan confronts Max about withdrawing from the two of you.

You’re wearing silk, it clings to your skin as Tristan spins you on the dance floor, the skirt of your dress flouncing out. Your laughter cuts through the air and it’s like a dagger in Max’s chest because this will all be over soon.

You, him, Tristian.

This relationship you have, it’ll end when your contract does and then he’ll be alone again, just like he was during that COVID year. And that thought, it terrifies him.

He drains the rest of his whiskey glass to take the edge off before raising to his feet. He intends to head back to his cabin, retire early, drink himself to sleep but he doesn’t get that far because there you are, looking pretty as a picture with that smile on your face.

The one that lights up his entire world.

“Come dance with me.” You request, your hand reaching out for his and in that moment Max is powerless to resist.

You draw him onto the dancefloor with you, the music slowing as he cradles you close. He closes his eyes, savouring the press of your body against his and he thinks about all the nights the three of you have spent together. The fun, the laughter, the passion.

Your perfume floods his senses, something light, something floral and he drinks it in with an ache that seems to resonate through his entire body.

Please, he wants to say, please just stay.

But he doesn’t because Max, he made Tristan a promise.

No pressure, it has to be her choice.

He just wishes that you’d choose them.

In my ongoing quest to avoid the news and the pending doomsday prophesies, I’ve been streaming shows online. Some that I’ve watched before, like “Leverage” and some that I haven’t before, like “Fringe” and “The Affair” (those last two all for my love of Joshua Jackson, obvs)

Tonight I started re-watching “Dawson’s Creek”

The angst! The drama! The music! Also, I’d forgotten how much of an instigator Pacey was with the whole torrid affair with Tamara Jacobs (that’s Ms. Jacobs, English Lit teacher to anyone NOT Pacey Witter”
