New Chapter Released!

Hello again! Hope your winter has gone well ❄️

With the public release of this new chapter we’re setting up the Crown’s daily routine as a monarch, while romance and courtly intrigue continue to build:

Diverging paths depending on your love interest, including scenes from your main LIs point of view! R and A accompany the Crown, but what are D and X up to in the meantime?

While the Crown becomes used to ruling, each LI experiences a shocking revelation in their main route, one that will cascade into future chapters

The Crown continues to grow and learn, being tutored in various subjects to increase their knowledge

Tutoring is not merely in theory: the Crown enjoys physical training, as well. Choose your favorite weapon and shape future fight scenes!

The Imperial Court is finally taking shape. Choose certain positions, receive political proposals, even form an alliance, if you have the points…

A few additional changes made to the game overall:

The codex page for the Crescent Blades has been added, including character art! It should be unlocked for all saves that are past Chapter 1

Changed various lore related names, mainly the ones referring to the Major Spirits, in order to better reference the Zoroastrian inspirations that Arsur’s religion is based on

Darkened the background color further to be friendlier on the eyes. Some day, I’ll add a proper dark mode, but that day is not today haha

Edited the Arsurian Calendar to match with the new background color, and also corrected the start and end dates of the months!

For those that are unfamiliar with the game

A Tale of Crowns is a high fantasy romance story, told in the form of a text-based interactive novel with choice mechanics. The setting is inspired by Kurdish culture as well as other historical settings in the Middle East such as Ancient Persia, but it also draws heavily from other cultures and countries in the region.

Your character is native to Arsur, a vast empire overseen by a single ruler known as the Crown. Unlike traditional monarchies, however, the title is not inherited through blood. Whenever the Crown dies, their famed golden eyes pass on to the one chosen by the Spirits of this world to be the new Crown. In this story, your MC takes on that role.

There are four different love interests to choose from, whose genders will be customized to suit the preferences of your Crown. You can find more info about them on the blog page!

What is something that truly would enrage the characters? And what is something small that makes them smile every time?

Things That Enrage Them

Alexia’s rage is the simmering kind, the kind that boils and boils until it boils over. Her red button is Guild politics. She never fit in very well with other Guild mages, and the manipulation present in every conversation infuriates her. She can feel herself being pushed in directions she doesn’t want to go, but she’ll take it and take it and take it until she can’t take it anymore. The results aren’t pretty.

Ren’s rage is quick and hot. He’s a child of the Undercity, growing up in the slums with other street children. He cannot abide the exploitation of the Undercity’s inhabitants. 

Calla’s rage, when it’s triggered, is immediate and explosive. She won’t balk at most things - if something bothers her, she’s more likely to deliver a sarcastic remark or a snide comment. She brushes off a lot of things that bother her. But there are two things that will enrage her to the point of no return: 1) her family and 2) the people behind in her sister’s murder. 

Mel’s rage is cold and vast, like the depths of the ocean. Similar to Calla, he doesn’t balk at a lot of things. When he has a problem with the internal politics of the city, he’s likely to turn it into a pointed political satire on stage. But when he is angry at an individual, when someone has done something to wrong him or those he cares about, it’s chilling. And you’d probably better run.   

Nelani’s rage is quiet and seething. She doesn’t like confrontation. She doesn’t like to yell or to use force. But there’s a bite to her words, a sharp, painful sting that doesn’t go away. She is enraged by people who use magic irresponsibly and without consequence.  

Felix’s rage is hidden deep within him. The reason for this is a big SPOILER, but in the vaguest terms possible: someone did something to him without his consent that changed him forever, and he would very much like this person to be dead. (Just to clarify, there is no sexual assault in his backstory). 

As for Aeran... Don’t hurt the PC. Hurt the PC and it’s over. (In Chapter 1, if you end up fighting Kane and fail an agility/strength check and get injured, you’ll see what I mean. Though I don’t recommend purposefully trying to fail an agility/strength check there, you’ll have fewer action points to use to explore and investigate Rona as a consequence). 

Things That Make Them Smile

Alexia - hiding away in a quiet nook to read a book and escape into a fictional world

Ren - Cats. All the cats. And his friend, Raven. She has the best smile. 

Calla - The sun’s reflection on the water, the spray of salt and sea. 

Melchior - The moon and the stars. The night sky reminds him of something important (there’s a reason he has a lot of celestial-themed jewelry). 

Nelani - Flying, particularly through the mountains. She loves snow fields and how crisp the mountain air is. 

Felix - His moms. He loves his moms. They are the best moms. 

Aeran - The PC.

since it was pretty clear that we cant really trust aeran in this chapter with the fight and the letters does that mean we also shouldnt trust his confession 🫣

Aeran never lies to the MC.

He hides things. There is so much he is not telling them. There is so much he is choosing not to tell them. There is so much he cannot tell them. But he has never, ever lied to them, even on low approval.

His confession is 100% genuine.

R - You cry during movies. You've used the "hand-holding is lewd" meme at least once. The first time R and the Crown kiss in the story you will likely die on the spot.

A - You stare longingly at cats you see on the street. Your Crown has "please notice me" energy. I could write a line about A simply glancing in your Crown's direction and you would already be halfway to writing an essay in your head analyzing the meaning behind it.

D - You're into height differences. Loyalty and devotion in a romance are some of your favorite tropes, even/especially when it ends in tragedy. It has been like 2 years and you are still obsessively thinking about the scar on the back of D's neck.

X - You absolutely love drama. You're sadistic towards your own Crown. While you're invested in the romance, at least part of the reason why you chose X's route was also to see the absolute MESS they will create.

All LIs - Your taste is impeccable, your judgment is flawless and your IQ is over 200.

X/D - They could burn the Royal Palace to the ground and kill your Crown and you would write a 234 page fandom manifesto about why they were both fully justified (you're correct).

there's??? Nsfw scenes??? Since when?? How do you get them?? How many things have i missed😰

There are three sex scenes in Episode 2: one with Aeran (technically two because there's two variations of it), one with Melchior, and one with Veyer.

The scenes are not explicitly NSFW. It cuts to black before you get to any explicit sex acts, but there is quite a bit of a steamy lead up in all three cases.

If you want to know how to trigger them, best to ask in the Wayfarer Discord server. But in general:

Don't get drunk. There are no sex scenes on drunk route.

For Aeran's: you need +60 romance, +60 approval and to go back to the apartment early (don't go to Mel's party). You also cannot have told him about the letters or have killed Rhodarth in Episode 1.

For Mel's: you need to have flirted with him enough in both his pavilion scene and his gallery scene (after the fight). You need 10 romance points to trigger it, which can be tricky to gauge because his profile is locked. Talk to him, accept his invite to the party, go outside (you can play pavrat with Kit if you want), then don't tell him to leave you alone later. If you don't play pavrat, do not grab the bottle of wine and start drinking.

For Veyer's: Get a single impression point during the Lethalis library scene (best done by being sassy or snarky, or showing interest in the ring they're playing with). Tricky to do because the mechanic is hidden. If you have the impression point, they'll show up in the gallery after the fight with Aeran. Talk to them and they'll eventually propose a one night stand.
