Second coloured concept art draft with applied feedback. Various visual motif research below.
Feedback 17/03/21:
- This camera angle was agreed to be much more effective, as well as the scale comparison in the scene.
- Improvements were made to the crown, but the dress must be pushed further.
- The relationship between the yarn and the queen remains unclear - it doesn’t effectively come across as a symbol of greed or riches.
- Perhaps the yarn is draped around her - something a queen wouldn’t normally do?
- Or is she cradling it like a child? Body language is important here.
- The colour of her face is too similar to her dress.
- Besides this, polish is the final step.

First coloured concept art draft with process.
Feedback 15/03/21:
- Try turning the camera around to get a better view of the character - currently the other person is the focus of the concept art.
- The artwork focuses on the discovery of the man rather than the mischievous -- intent of the character.
- Peer feedback suggests that the character does not appear grand enough - suiting the “old hag” archetype more than a seemingly benevolent queen.
- More jewelry perhaps?

Environment secondary research and thumbnail iterations. The main direction here was to place the character into a compromised situation.

The final character design with colour iterations. The colour palette originally began with the colours of the Victoria Crowned Pigeon.

Tutor Feedback: These iterations seemed to have lost the “power” in shapes and body language. To proceed further, a few steps were taken back.
In addition, a narrative was created before iterating the character, thus hindering possibilities and potential of pushing the character. The narrative was dropped to push a character with power and opulence.
Knowing this, these final iterations emphasized strong shapes and body language. These iterations followed the direction of an elderly seamstress. The head was played around with until the desired attitude was achieved.

Further research into the Victorian era, specifically into the Industrial Revolution and the textile industry (more extensive text here for world building inspiration). The theme for maternity (derived from uxorious) led on to research of Emperor Penguins.

Initial research of prompts and iteration sketches for the character. Just being playful with the gathered source material, leaning toward a maternal figure.
