So lately I’ve been dealing with a ton of top dysphoria because I haven’t been able to bind as much due to rib/back aches. I do know I’ll need top surgery in the future, but for now idk what to do. When I can bind it helps a ton but my side is kind of sore. I also am around my grandparents who have been misgendering me and calling me girl (just cause they forget/don’t really get it) so that makes me more uncomfortable even with binding. Any tips would be appreciated💓😬

Firstly, before I get to tips, don’t just lessen how often you bind; please stop binding entirely until the pain goes away. I know its super hard to do such a thing, and it’s frustrating, but you need to treat your body well and even binding a little is going to worsen the issue. So let yourself heal! You dont want to get seriously hurt! If it doesn’t go away or becomes worse, go to your doctor. 

And now for tips. These are going to seem super redundant for the most part, because I think everyone has talked about them before, but since you cant (really) bind, try wearing a sports bra (not a tight one, so you dont hurt yourself more) and wear loose clothing. Of course, depending on the climate where you live at the moment, you may not be able to wear things like bulky sweatshirts, but if you can I like to wear them personally. They do a lot along with a sports bra (since they dont really shape your chest, just secure it) to lessen how large your chest looks, and depending on your chest size, might make it hard to tell it even exists. 

Socially, talk to people who care about you or friends you have in the community. Talk to people who care. I don’t notice people giving this tip quite often enough, but dysphoria is something youre dealing with mentally and physically, so although you can do things to alleviate it, part of dealing with it is practicing self care and letting yourself be open for awhile about what youre going through as well as give your body a break from binding. I’m always here to chat, and Im sure many others are as well. Im sorry you’re in such a tough position right now, I know how it feels and i know it’s frustrating. (Also, im sorry I responded to this kinda late!!)

I’ve been a tough week with dealing with dysphoria and I was wondering if you could help. Specifically on how to grow more hair on my face/arms. I want so badly to use minoxidil but my mom advised me against it for health reasons (my grandfather used it and he had a bad reaction to it) so I don’t think I’ll be able to. I don’t see myself going on T anytime soon (mostly because I’m nonbinary and can’t pick and choose what changes happened). I’m at a loss for what to do but I want to pass more.

I am SO sorry I didnt get to this earlier. I personally don’t have much experience with growing body hair fast, but I absolutely understand the frustration of not being able to pick and choose. Im nonbinary as well, and most of my dysphoria stems from my chest because sometimes I feel fine and like it, but other times my chest feels terrible and im extremely uncomfortable with it existing. I violently swing between feminine and androgynous verging on masculine. But I can’t fix that with top surgery because Im fine with my chest and like it most times.

I did a little research and most of what I found was home remedies for stimulating hair growth, so I cannot attest to how well that would work. If youd like to try some, theyre not hard to find online if you go researching on your own. But what I DID see over and over was that exfoliating can help hair to grow as fast as it can, because it keeps your hair folicles from being covered by dead skin cells. From what I could gather, exfoliating once or twice a week would be good. 

As for using minoxidil, I wouldn’t completely rule it out as an option. I would do a small skin test on your arm (as you would for any substance you wanted to teat for a reaction) so that you can see whether its safe to use without worrying about a bad reaction on your face or large portion of your body. 

(I NOT a doctor so certainly research on your own, but this is the best I could come up with).
