He remembers every feeling, down to the beats. Confusion, the disorientation that could only be cause by the world turning upside down. Some backwards trash forcing the sovereign of the universe to this groveling state, going as far as to turn his back on him. It's enough to sicken him, nausea mixed with rage as bile rushes up Frieza's throat to mingle with the blood he's already coughed up. The only difference is he still has all his limbs.

The phalanges of the emperor's pointer finger begins to extend. A single shot to the back, one energy beam fired clean through the barbarian's heart would be enough to end this forever and pluck the thorn from his side that had persisted through multiple lives. Instincts send screaming electric signals through his nervous system, demanding that he straighten out the digit and fire, finish what he started those decades ago with the planet Vegeta. And if this had been the first time, he would have done so without hesitation.

But this wasn't the first time, and to repeat himself exactly would be madness. This monkey might push him to the brink, but the tyrant still kept at least a fingernail's grip on sanity. The finger curls back into a clenched fist, half-dug into the blackened earth. As demeaning as the Saiyan's mercy might be, it would not be enough for Frieza to reject the gift again. No, he has to make him regret it this time. "You've bought a respite and nothing more."

Battered back turned to the once and past tyrant, they were here once before, once again at such a juncture. Most people would call it better judgment to just kill him now, and put an end to his reign of terror. But some how, some way, he keeps crawling back out to finish what he started.

The hope of the universe was on the Super Saiyan's shoulders, the rage of a billion billions. And even still, he did not give in to any dark thought however justified. And he stood ready for new levels of power to revive this conflict.

"You really are more of a helpless fool than ever if you think that. Stop me if you've heard this one before: Never make mischief again. Your pride's killed you already, don't keep making the same mistake."

More thoughts about Frieza's character!

Encountering Goku has, technically, made him a better person, forcing him to accept a degree of humility, patience, appreciation of others' strength, willingness to cooperate, and the importance of hard work. This unfortunately has also just made him more dangerous, because he continues to direct all of these newly cultivated virtues towards being the undisputed tyrant over all of existence. The idea of Frieza ever becoming "good" is fundamentally laughable - but his experiences have led to him being more "non-antagonistic" in instances where he might otherwise respond to slights with violence.

Fun facts about the landlord of two-thirds of the universe!

Frieza is an aberration among his species, his mutation allowing him to surpass even his father, himself a mutant of freakish strength, in terms of raw power without any real training. This extends to the point that he doesn't identify with the rest of his species - the "Frieza Clan" consisting of himself and his father (and Cooler depending on the verse) are a people unto themselves in his mind, and he is their pinnacle.

The majority of the planets under Frieza's control are peaceful, developed worlds that engage in intergalactic commerce without issue - their security guaranteed by the Emperor's Planetary Trade Organization in exchange for a flat tariff on all interplanetary imports and exports. While this might paint a cheery image of the empire, this was largely possible by violent conquest and dispossession, and the PTO's relationship to its subjects is decidedly one-sided.

This blog takes the broad strokes of Dragon Ball Super up through Broly and Super Hero as canon, because unlike a lot of other characters Frieza actually has a pretty satisfying arc over the course of it. The main revision is that during his revival in Resurrection F, we can just say that Vegeta actually got to defeat Frieza and finish him off.
