Final Progress Report

 I am continuing to work on my channel and find ways to increase traffic to my page. I’m checking other similar channels for inspiration. Since my page is new, I can play around with my video style until I find something that fits with what I’m trying to accomplish. I am working on different card layouts as well. I went from an 8-card spread to a 9-card spread. I’m still struggling to get orders for personal readings, but I will continue to build my channel so that when people do visit me, they can get a good idea of how I work. I will be continuing to work on my business by uploading videos consistently and hoping that it can turn into a full-time career.

Week 12

I am tweaking the format of my YouTube videos ever time I upload to find a style that I like. I have posted weekly general videos, I have posted biweekly videos for 12 different zodiac signs, and I am now going to try to do 12 monthly videos for each sign. The biweekly videos that were separated by sign earned a lot more views than my original general weekly pick a card reading. I have not yet received any requests for personal readings but I’m hoping to continue to grow my channel. Once my channel becomes big enough, I will get more views and traffic to my channel and hopefully that translated to more customers.

Week 11 Progress

I have switched the format of my videos from a single weekly video to a biweekly video for each individual zodiac sign. This means I uploaded 12 general video readings that cover the energies of a 2 week forecast. Although this would split up my views so that each video would receive less views than if it was just one video. It may also be that combined I would have more views because the videos are more specific and might relate to people more. With August coming up I am thinking about uploading a full month energy reading for each sign. It seems like the individual sign videos are more popular.

Weekly Progress

I have changed the format of my videos from 1 general video to multiple specific videos.

I have posted a reading for each zodiac sign, hoping to get more views. Maybe more people will be interested in a reading that is geared towards them. I feel the key with YouTube is consistency. So, I will have to keep at it, and it may take a few months to get some real results. The platform is so vast that unless someone is specifically looking for you, they may not find your channel.

I have heard that YouTube doesn’t promote videos unless you have been uploading consistently for a year. Which means I would not show up in people’s suggested videos or home page.

I’m going to continue to post videos and expand my reach by also posting on other platforms. Hopefully I can get a few more requests for personal readings.

Progress Week 9

So far, my business is coming along slowly. I need to work on posting more videos and playing around with different styles. I tried a pick-a-card method for my first video. I think I will expand into doing individual readings for each zodiac sign. I have had one new request for a personal reading from my YouTube page which is exciting. I am continuing to work on my readings and learning new techniques.

Running a business can be challenging, especially if you’re working alone. You are responsible for everything and anything that you don’t know, you will have to learn as you go. I am learning that I am determined to make this business successful. I will continue to grow and develop, and hopefully I will reach the milestones I have set for myself.

Progress Week 8

So far, my YouTube channel has not blown up. I’m not getting as many views as I hoped. I decided to use a “pick-a-card” method which seems to be popular right now. Traditionally I enjoy watching readings based on my zodiac sign. I may switch my format over from pick-a-card to zodiac readings. I am feeling good about the project. I will continue to tweak my channel until I find a format that works. Considering that YouTube is a large platform, there is a lot of competition and it will take some time before I can build a steady following. I will continue to post videos until I solve the algorithm. I have been looking deeper into competitors’ channels and it appears that it takes about a year before you start getting noticed or until YouTube decides to promote your videos. YouTube is a business and they make money from ad revenue. It does not benefit them to promote a channel that has no staying power or longevity. So, it is important to remain consistent with your channel and hone your video making skills.

Progress Report #1

Having just started a YouTube Channel, it is more challenging than previously thought. I thought just uploading a video would be enough, but I have not gotten any views since posting my video yesterday. Obviously, the production value of my video will not be as good as a seasoned YouTuber but to not get any views was not expected. I may have to work on a creative thumbnail and a better title to get people to want to click the video. I may also have to consider a new setup for my readings. Since YouTube is my only medium, if no one is watching my videos than I will not get any requests for personal readings.

Financial Sources

Ideally, I would like to invest my own money into creating my business but if I did not have enough there are a few options I would consider. In the future, I would use Love Money, Bank Loans, or Angel Investors to finance my business. My primary choice would be to use love money because it comes from a person I know personally. It eliminates the bureaucracy, banking fees, and steep interest rates.

My second choice is to get a bank loan because it seems more straight forward and variable interest rates can be fairly low. You will have a comprehensive payment plan and it may be easier to budget this way. Having a loan would make me more accountable compared to borrowing from a loved one.

Lastly, an angel investor would be considered because it is similar to love money but you may not personally know the investor. It is a personal loan from a wealthy individual who may or may not take equity in your company. Repayment plans and service fees can be better negotiated and personalized compared to banks. The downside is you would have to give up some control of your company which can become challenging if you do not agree on the direction to take it.

Business Operations Plan for Tarot Readings

My business is completely online. I will need to set up a YouTube Channel, set up a business PayPal account, and I already have a microphone, webcam and tarot cards. Resources that I will need to bring to my business are learning how to edit videos, create an eye-catching thumbnail and a catchy title to get people to click on my videos when they show up in the search. Potential clients who come to my channel can view free general readings directed at their zodiac sign. If they connect with my style of reading, they can book a private reading with me by sending a payment to PayPal with either a question or general description of the issues they want clarified. A private link will be sent to their inbox where they can access the video.

There are no certifications required to become a tarot reader. However, since many people do come to tarot readings hoping to get advice, it is important to make it clear to your client that you can not offer any professional, legal or medical advice. Anything that comes up in the readings is an interpretation and it is up to the discretion of the client what they choose to do with that message.

Customer Persona

Mary is a stay at home mom who feels isolated and alone. She is caught in this endless cycle of taking care of the kids, cleaning, cooking, taking care of her husband, and no time for herself. Mary is feeling burnt out.

My ideal customer is a woman who is trying to connect to the divine feminine. Women are sacred beings who give life, nurture and heal. Women are the divine feminine incarnate, but we are not taught this. Spirituality helps women tap into this energy. Tarot is a tool that can help guide them on the path.

Women who feel purposeless in life or feel like they are not achieving enough because society says that women should be able to do it all. Women are expected be able to have a family and a career, and be able to do them both successfully. Which, most of the time, is not possible. Women often suffer from burnout because of this. Trying to balance everything. Self sacrificing, as the divine feminine energy does. They don’t feel like they are heard. So, they start seeking answers.

Competition

My 3 main competitors on YouTube are EAT READ LOVE INC, The Quietest Revolution, and Tyler's Tarot with 436K, 213K, and 354K subscribers respectively. Their channels were created around 2016 and 2017. The Quietest Revolution is the only one who is currently doing personal readings. Her rate is $100 USD for a mini reading. EAT READ LOVE has done them in the past at over $200 but does not currently offer them, and Tyler’s Tarot does not offer personal readings at all. This may be due to their higher viewership and more video posting. Tyler’s Tarot and Eat Read Love focus more on building their YouTube channel, posting videos daily, while The Quietest Revolution posts bi-weekly. Tyler’s Tarot uses his phone to record videos, The Quietest Revolution uses her laptop camera, Eat Read Love has a more sophisticated set up with a camera and lights. Also, The Quietest Revolution and Eat Read Love offer extended readings for purchase at around $8 and $30 respectively.

Taking everything into account, I will be following a model closer to The Quietest Revolution to start and I am hoping to be able to get to where Eat Read Love is at the moment. However, I will be offering readings at a lower price point to attract new clients. I have seen new YouTubers offer readings at $30. For the first month I will offer a promotional rate of $30 to garner some interest and raise the price gradually over time.

Strength

My strengths are that I’m very empathetic. I can pick up on people’s energies and their micro expressions so it is easier to get a sense of what the other person is thinking. This is also a good tool for negotiating because you can give people what they want and keep the client happy.

I’m good at budgeting and financial planning. I can create a budget and stick to it. Also, management in general. I’m good at time management and teamwork. When it comes to things I am passionate about I am determined to succeed. Creating a plan and sticking to it is a strength.

I am a creative person so I can see outside the box but I am logical enough to be able to develop a feasible plan of action to get there.

Weakness

I’m not very good at asking for help or delegating tasks to other people. I’m also a perfectionist so I feel like I can do the job better than others. With this, I end up taking on more work than I can handle and can often times crack under pressure. I do not work well under pressure.

Another weakness of mine is my oral communication skills. I am an introvert and it is difficult for me to express myself openly. Making conversation and small talk are things that make me very anxious. With that, it can be deduced that I am not great at public speaking and giving presentations in front of others.

Lastly, I am not very tech savvy, when it comes to PowerPoint or video editing, these are not skills I possess.
