Critical blog week 10

FINAL WEEK

This week my main focus is on getting everything ready for hand in. I’ve put all my focus onto my garments as I had so much to change, I now realise that I shouldn’t have done this because I’ve got so much to catch up on. I don’t know if I’m going to manage to finish all of D&V as I’m just going to focus on finishing Uniform project.

Critical block week 9

This week I have to focussed on uniform project part two, I created boards inspired my David Bowie and elton John. I also got told that I had to re draw all my illustrations because they were too D&V based. I do agree with this feedback, I should have drawn my own sketched to create my own style instead of using collage work. I realise that I mainly just used furniture collage on top of illustrations to make garments, I now know that I need to take inspiration from the furniture itself. Such as, pleating or padding. Although I don’t know if I’m going to have enough time to re draw them all because I’ve still got lots to do. I really have to manage my time better. Im going to write out a list for what needs to be completed. For future, I’m doing to start keeping a diary and write down what I need to complete each day for uni. I feel this may help me manage my time better

Critical blog week 8

After my toile review I had to make quite a few changes. I’ve cut out all my pattern pieces, and cut them out onto calico. I am going to add 3 sections of gathering onto my sleeves this time to create more of an interesting silhouette, it will also help bring my Mongolian tribe theme in more as the gathering will create a box like silhouette.

I then carried on with uniform brief two, I looked more into books from the library to find more pictures on 1970s furniture. I decided to get my research from books rather than Pinterest this time is because I needed to widen my research sources.

This week I am also planning to make a start to my ccs essay as I don’t want to leave it last minute

Critical blog week 7

I chose my theme of disco/funk for uniform project brief 2, I also did some research and development work. I took inspiration from 1970s furniture, I also took inspiration from David Bowie’s wide leg trouser. My toile is finally sewn together, all I need to do is add eyelets for the review on Friday

Critical blog week 6

This week I started looking at brief 2 for the uniform project. I began by researching into sustainable fashion and fashion designers who are also sustainable. I also looked into up cycling and ethical fashion. I would say I now have a good understanding about these topics. I want to continue to look into sustainable fabrics and maybe encorporate one into my final design.

I have also cut out all my pattern pieces for my toile, I’m just about to cut them out onto Calico. My peace’s have to be sewn for the toile review.

Critical blog week 5

This week I began to take inspiration from the mountain rescue industry. I started to look more into their uniforms for protection and safety which I found interesting. I think their uniform will be a great combination with the Mongolian tribes as they both require protection from harsh weather conditions. I also used collage and created some quirky illustrations combining both the themes, I really liked how these ones turned out. I also learned how to do gathering in which I will develop onto my final garment

I began D&V part 3 by taking some pictures of the clothing I’m using, I also created a development design on the mannequin. I need to try get more done to this project, I find that I am working on the uniform project more than this.

Critical block week 4

I began to start comparing mongolian tribal masks to chemical Warfare masks as I thought they looked quite similar. Instead of masks I then moved onto looking into the Mongolian tribal clothing as they require lots of layers/warmth for protection from the cold. This week I am finding it more easy to generate ideas as the Mongolian tribal clothing has a variety of layers and textures to explore.

For D&V breif two , my looks weren’t ‘quirky’ enough so next week I am looking to further develope my ideas. I am hoping to be more experimental so a sense of ‘fun’. For my two subcultures, I also have to try and be more experimental with those illustrations. Next week I will have taken the feedback I got and implament it into my work

Critical blog week 2

This week I completed D&V breif one, this is where I had to create looks inspired by Craig greens designs. While creating the different illustrations I used a variety of different techniques on photoshop to explore different looks. Overall, I feel I have successfully created many interesting collage based illustrations, although I could have hand drawn more of the illustrations to create my own ‘style’.

For the uniform brief I began to explore more into my theme of Chemical Warfare. I started to look into the different protection wear they wear in gas attacks. As I explored further into the theme I found it hard to expand further. I’m planning on widening my thought process to see if I can generate some new ideas. I also went to Barry buddon to gather some primary research to relate to my current army/protection theme. I mainly got my other research from online sources.

PRIMARY, SECONDARY AND CONTEXUAL RESEARCH

Here I collected some primary research consisting of block colour, which I though related quite well to famous disco dance floor. Although I feel as though I should have expanded my range of primary research as I feel some doesn’t relate as well as each other.

I went around Aberdeen collecting photographs of different street art as inspiration for my theme, I then related it to some popular 70s disco clothing. I then went onto compare the shillouettes of 1970s furniture to David Bowie’s wide leg trouser. I thought this related quite well and created some interesting silhouettes.
