A look back at my gaming experiences during the last four decades. I only included games on which I have spent 20 hours or more. Star ratings go from 1-5 in relation to MY enjoyment of the game. They have nothing to do with quality so YMMV.

Subnautica Below Zero
I wonder if this game was made by the “B-team” at Unknown Worlds, or if it’s a case of the original team not understanding what made the original so good. Whatever the case it’s clear that Subnautica Below Zero is an inferior experience to the original and I’m deeply disappointed. // ★★★

Spider-Man Remastered
I’ve afraid for a while that I was growing up and losing interest in video games; then I played Spider-Man remastered and realized that my love and interest in games was still there, it’s just that the type of gaming experiences I like are no longer common. // ★★★★★★

Valheim
Games like this make me wonder what the f*&k are the big labels doing when 5 guys can show them up like this.
It’s technically in “early access” and yet it’s more polished and free of bugs than most major releases. I can’t wait to see it’s final form in a few years. // ★★★★★★

Borderlands 3
As you grow older you start to come to the uncomfortable realization that things are not as they used to be. Part of it is your growth as a person, part is media saturation, but sometimes there’s something else involved: mediocrity.
I loved Borderlands 2, and the gaming aspects I liked about are both present and refined in this installment. Normally I don’t care much about the story on a video game, but Borderlands 2 was so fun and so well written that having to play through this game’s story, even with its improved mechanics is nothing short of painful. Changing Claptrap’s voice was just criminal.
I won’t complain more because it was gifted to me, and in the end I’m having fun with its gameplay.
What a let down. //★★★★

Halo The Master Chief Collection
First time in almost two decades that I preorder something. Microsoft have really outdone themselves, this is a perfect port, everything I wanted and more. // ★★★★★★★

The Outer Worlds
As much as I’m enjoying this game it kinda feels like discount Fallout and discount Borderlands had a baby that while feeling generic could have its own charm.
I can see how fans of the old Fallout would love this game, for me however I love Fallout 4 and the changes it made to its core mechanics a bit too much. I can see myself playing this 2 maybe 3 times to check out alternate stuff but without mods I don’t see a long life for this title in my library.
Still, kudos to Obsidian for having the balls put out a quality single person experience without any multiplayer or microtransactions nonsense, it’s greatly appreciated. 2019-11-08 // ★★★★

Rise of the Tomb Raider
After loving the reboot it took me a good 4 years to play the sequel. The poor thing came out the same day as Fallout 4 and exclusive to a platform I don’t own or like.
This is the same game as its predecessor just refined in every way, that makes up for my preference over Tomb Raider’s setting of Yamatai to this one’s northern Russia. Given my enjoyment of this title, I’m confident that it’ll take me less than 4 years to start playing Shadow of the Tomb Raider, probably. // ★★★★★

Battlefront II
Being mediocrity personified and EA’s greedy practices don’t speak well of this game; but it was five bucks on sale and that’s about right for the price. // ★★★

Burnout Paradise Remastered
Seven years ago I purchased the EA Humble Bundle which included the original version of this games. At the time it wouldn’t have imagined that it would become one of my favorite games ever. Buying the remaster was a no brainer even if it involved giving money to EA. // ★★★★★★

Civilization VI
Two years after release the gameplay has improved significantly to the point that going back to V is no longer a realistic option. It still looks like a cheap Chinese Civilization V knockoff for mobile phones though, so I have to knock a star for that. // ★★★★★
