For our latest post, a quick interview was conducted on a fellow multimedia arts student, Mr. Miguel Vizconde. In this meeing, we talked about the 2018 indie roguelite game developed by Supergiant Games Studios, Hades. The following are the questions asked during said interview:
Have you had any experience playing other roguelites or roguelikes aside from this game? If so, what were those games and how do they compare to Hades?
Where and how did you find out about this game?
Which aspect of the game made you interested in playing it?
What is your favorite and least favorite parts of the game? Is there any point where you struggled in the game?
What are your final thoughts about this game?
After conducting this interview, I can say that I personally relate with the interviewee’s enjoyment playing this game, seeing how charmed and invested he is with its narrative, art style, and gameplay. Considering Hades’ rich story and very engaging gameplay mechanics, it’s very easy to see how one may find himself sinking hours trying to escape the underworld, interacting with the different and interesting Olympian and Cthonic gods, and unraveling the many mysteries of these characters.

Roguelite Fever!
Tumblr media
On December 6, 2018, Supergiant Games released a game that reignited the people’s love for roguelites – a very much underrated gaming genre that people either love or hate. Why, you may ask? Roguelites are not your typical gaming experience where you, as the player, try to avoid death as much as possible. In this genre, the player’s death is pretty much inevitable, and it’s fun! With this premise, what better setting could a roguelite game have than the land of the dead itself – the Underworld!
In Hades, you play as Zagreus – the prince of the underworld and son of the titular character. As the young prince, you fight your way from the lowest parts of the Underworld up to the surface, where untold mysteries are brewing, all while you face deadly spike traps and perilous foes from wretched witches to poisonous giant vermin. With the help of a few Olympian gods and their boons, an arsenal of some of the most legendary weaponry, and pure grit, nothing can stand in the way of the Underworld prince from escaping hell.
            Die. Resurrect. Die again!
