Asano Gakushū & original character
The evening unfurled like a silken ribbon against the deep indigo of the sky, stars twinkling like scattered diamonds upon the tapestry of night. The soothing symphony of waves lapping gently at the shore serenaded them as they strolled hand in hand along the moonlit beach, each step leaving ephemeral impressions in the soft, warm sand beneath their feet. The world around them faded into a tranquil haze, the vibrant colors of the day surrendering to the calming embrace of twilight.
Having just indulged in a sumptuous dinner that tantalized their senses, they were enveloped in the lingering echoes of laughter and clinking glasses, the remnants of a perfect meal that danced on their tongues like an intoxicating memory. The air was thick with the scent of salt and blooming frangipani, a fragrant reminder of the paradise they inhabited. She felt a flutter of excitement mingled with nervous anticipation coil within her as she walked beside him, each moment steeped in the heady allure of new beginnings.
The moon cast a silver glow upon the path ahead, illuminating the delicate outlines of palm trees that swayed gently in the evening breeze, whispering secrets to one another. It was a world that felt both familiar and fantastical, a cocoon of intimacy enveloping them as they made their way back to the private villa that awaited them. With each step, the ground beneath her feet felt alive, as if the very earth rejoiced in their union.
Her gaze slid toward Gakushu, lingering as if entranced by the man beside her. The soft, golden hue of his strawberry-blonde hair, kissed by the pale moonlight, framed his face in a near-divine radiance, each strand aglow like spun silk. The light caressed his features with a tenderness that made him appear otherworldly—both impossibly gentle and fiercely noble, as though he were sculpted by the gods themselves. His brilliance rested upon him like an invisible mantle, carried with effortless grace, yet it was the intensity of his eyes that captured her. His violet irises, stark and vivid against the softness of his hair, gleamed with a mesmerizing depth, like amethyst crystals catching the final light of day. They held an ocean of unspoken intricacies, swirling with ambition and resolute strength, yet softened by a sheen of vulnerability that only few were privy to. The way he looked at her now—open, exposed—was achingly intimate, the careful mask of control slipping to reveal something raw, real, and undeniably captivating.
Gakushu, as if sensing her thoughts, slowed their pace, his hand tightening ever so slightly around hers. He stopped walking altogether, turning to face her with a soft, curious smile. “What is it?” he asked, his voice a low murmur, barely carried by the evening breeze.
She didn’t answer immediately. Instead, she allowed herself a moment to fully take him in, her gaze drinking in the sight of him standing there under the moon’s soft glow, his eyes searching hers, as if he, too, was committing this moment to memory. She knew she must look lost in thought, her eyes reflecting the flickering candlelight from the villa, but she couldn’t help it.
Finally, she gave a small smile. “Nothing,” she whispered, her voice catching on the night air.

I wanted to see if the Chinese and Japanese graduation albums were any different from one another + some comments under my translation. It's almost his birthday too! I'm doing his character book pages next.
Kunugigaoka Junior High, 3rd Year Class A
Asano Gakushu
The Asano Family
Father: Chairman of Kunugigaoka Academy
Mother: Housewife
Siblings: Only child
An only child.
He is very concerned about his genetics because his mother’s younger brother went bald at a young age.
With his genius-level talent, he leads Class A as the student council president.
He has outstanding grades, language skills, business acumen, is proficient in martial arts, has a commanding presence, is eloquent, and can even play the guitar. He is the leader of the "Five Virtuosos," someone who knows too much, to the point of being a bit laughable, and the student council president. He was a fierce rival in the mid-term exams, where a heated battle took place. To win, he would stop at nothing, but due to his noble character, he dislikes underhanded methods.
"I will lead! So please… continue supporting me."
A naturally condescending gaze. To him, "classmates" and "subordinates" are synonymous, and he occasionally slips up and mixes them up.
The side of Asano Gakushu that no one knows!
"And besides… With your abilities, I’m sure you’ll figure out a way, right?"
After going through several intense battles, he has developed a comrade-like relationship with Class E… I guess this could be considered a sign of him becoming more well-rounded.
Messages written for Asano Gakushu:
"After entering high school, I’m always ready for a challenge from you, Asano-kun. Please look after me~" (Akabane)
“I believe that by competing with Asano and the A-class, we can all grow. Thank you. (Isogai)
"We’re not just subordinates, but comrades as well. Don’t hesitate to rely on us sometimes, leader!" (Seo)
Subordinates… The other members of the Five Virtuosos:
Koyama Natsuhiko
The crazy character of the Five Virtuosos. Despite his appearance, perhaps due to his confidence, he is rather flirtatious with girls.
Seo Tomoya
The arrogant character of the Five Virtuosos. He often boasts about being a returnee from overseas and has a quick temper.
Araki Teppei
The "explainer" character of the Five Virtuosos. He excels in social studies. He also takes on the role of MC during school events.
Sakakibara Ren
The ladies’ man of the Five Virtuosos. He’s very skilled at attracting women and even once tried to pursue Kanzaki.
PERSONAL HISTORY
Private Kunugigaoka Junior High School
Private Kunugigaoka Senior High School
Private Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) ※ Acquired qualifications necessary for entrepreneurship, including an MBA.
Founded a business in Silicon Valley
Starting from his first year of high school, he began establishing his own system of control, with Karma being the only one who refused to submit to him. The two graduated in a state of constant tension and rivalry. After graduation, he went on to execute his perfect dominance at MIT. By leveraging his connections worldwide to recruit top talent, he became a leading figure in Silicon Valley.
Notes from yours truly
In the original Japanese, Gakushu’s name is written as 学秀 with the simplified kanji 学, while his father Gakuho’s name uses the traditional 學, which is probably a subtle reflection of a generational difference.
However, in the Chinese version, Gakushu’s name is localized as 淺野學秀. Chinese publications, especially in regions like Taiwan or Hong Kong, use traditional characters as the default, so his name would naturally be localized with 學 instead of 学.
I've seen people on Tiktok posting about Gakushu having an absent mother in 2024. The misinformation around this boy is pitiful!
Male pattern baldness (androgenic alopecia) can be passed down through genetics, and there is some scientific basis for the concern Gakushu has about going bald, especially in relation to his mother’s side of the family.
The key factor in the inheritance of male pattern baldness is related to the X chromosome. Men inherit their X chromosome from their mother, so the gene that influences baldness is often passed down from the mother’s side.
The gene in question is related to the androgen receptor, which regulates the body’s response to male hormones (androgens) like testosterone. If someone inherits a particular variant of this gene, they may be more susceptible to hair loss. It’s a fun detail since Gakushu has this whole Genetic General thing running haha
The choice of words for the archetypical roles of the four other Virtuosos are
Natsuhiko: 瘋狂 (mad/insane)
Seo: 自傲 (self-pride/arrogance)
Teppei: 解說 (explanation/commentary. as a role*)
Ren: 把妹 (picking up girls/flirting)
Beyond the obvious qualifications (like top grades and an impressive application), I believe Gakushu’s ability to pitch his vision was crucial. He wouldn’t have just been accepted into MIT for being academically brilliant but for his ability to prove that he's an ambitious visionary. That, and he's extremely charistmatic and knows how to act infront of people.
Given the tech-driven nature of Silicon Valley, Gakushu likely obtained qualifications related to technology and innovation. He might have pursued computer science or engineering coursework, or certifications in emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, machine learning, or blockchain. These qualifications would allow him to understand the technical side of the business, especially if his startup involved tech-driven innovation.
My guess is that Gakushu’s business could be centered around developing and controlling advanced technologies, such as quantum computing/AI/neurotechnology, to establish dominance over human society.

赤羽業 & 浅野学秀: the Venus de Milo problem
Tumblr media
The results of the second semester finals between Gakushū and Karma were a convergence of their respective narratives throughout the school year—two students molded by opposing forces. Their teachers, reflections of each other’s antithesis, shaped their worldviews, while their relationships with those around them sculpted their distinct approaches to solving the final math problem. The infamous image of Venus de Milo was not just an emblem for the question; it was the perfect metaphor for the philosophical gap between the opposing sides in the academics area of Assassination Classroom.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Atoms" and "body-centered cubic structures"... I can't let those terms throw me. The question itself is quite simple. "You are inside a box surrounded by enemies... calculate the volume of your territory". Since our powers are equal, our attacks nullify each other. In other words, everything on the inside is my territory.
I'm surrounded by eight enemies inside this cube. Which means I need to calculate the volume of eight seals... and deduct that from the entire cube to get the volume of A0!
For Gakushu, the math problem was a test of control, an exercise in subjugating chaos to rationality. His solution was methodical, precise, and insular. To him, the box was a microcosm of his reality: a confined space where the rules are absolute, and success is achieved by bending those rules to one’s will. His focus on the “body-centered cubic structure” was emblematic of his fixation on the quantifiable. Pareto efficiency: Gakushu operates under the assumption that resources (or, in this case, space) must be allocated with optimal precision, leaving no room for inefficiency or external variables.
Yet, his flaw lies in his refusal to acknowledge the world outside the box. His worldview, while brilliant, is fundamentally limited by its rigidity. Gakushu does not look beyond the immediate; his vision, though sharp, is narrow.
Occam’s Razor is a philosophical principle suggests that the simplest solution is often the correct one. Gakushu eliminated extraneous elements, breaking the problem into its most essential parts to focus on what can be controlled within the given parameters. This is not to say he was wrong- we know that Gakushu's solution was correct. What decided the exam results was the race against time, which all comes back to how fast they arrive to the answer. Gakushu shaved down the details of the problem to maximize time and efficiency. In his own words: "The question itself is quite simple". Yet in his haste to simplify the problem, he unknowingly complicated it unnecessarily for himself, which ended in his loss.
The animation captures Gakushu’s mindset perfectly: his field of vision narrows, spotlighting only the part of the question he deems essential, with the rest fading into darkness. While his approach is flawless in theory and execution, it leaves no room for alternative interpretations or broader connections, leading to that inadvertent inefficiency. In another context, his approach would have been unbeatable.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was only looking at this single small cube, but... since this is a crystal structure built from atoms... that means the same structure continues on the outside. In other words... there is more to this world than this single cube.
And if I look around me, I can see that everyone has their own unique talent... their own territory. And everyone else can see that too!
"Everyone has their own unique talent… their own territory," is an example of moral relativism, the idea that no single territory, talent, or solution is inherently superior to another.
Karma initially approached the question with the mental schema that it required extraordinary talent or effort to solve. By rereading and reframing the problem, he adjusted his schema to understand that the solution lay in simplicity and clarity, rather than overthinking or exceptional skill.
In contrast to Gakushu's animation, Karma’s mental process is visually chaotic, the animation mirroring his initial overwhelm. The camera pans dizzyingly across the paper, as if he’s grappling with the sheer surface-level complexity of the problem. But this momentary disorientation sparks something critical: a shift in perspective.
His realization has the essence of metacognition, which is the ability to think about one’s own thinking. He steps back from the problem, recognizing its context within a larger framework. This is the dialectical opposition between them: while Gakushu seeks to rule the box, Karma understands that the box is merely one part of a vast, interconnected world. His solution acknowledges the multiplicity of perspectives, valuing the contributions of others as integral to his own success.
Rather than avoiding the problem’s complexity, he embraces it (literally opening his arms lmao) using his own experiences and relationships as a lens to find clarity. Karma’s breakthrough is not his alone. It’s a culmination of the lessons from Korosensei and the camaraderie of Class E. These influences allow him to reframe the problem, breaking through its apparent complexity and arrive at an easy solution. Gakushu just didn't have that luxury from his father and Class A.
The Venus de Milo as a Metaphor
Tumblr media
The Venus de Milo is known for its iconic missing arms, which were long gone before the statue was even discovered. Because of this, many interpretations of how the statue of Venus was posing and what the artist was trying to portray arose. In the same way, the final question symbolized a challenge that was both finite in its mathematical boundaries yet infinite in the ways it could be perceived. Here lies the thematic brilliance of the sculpture and the exam question: both demand the solver to confront the known and the unknown simultaneously.

Gakushū's Business Acumen: Class 3-A's Event Cafe
Analyzing Gakushu's school festival business plan from a comprehensive finance and psychological perspective reveals several key strengths and potential risks. I'll delve into the intricacies of the revenue model, cost structure, operational efficiency, and psychological tactics for a nuanced understanding of his business strategy and its implications. (This may get wordy.)
The event cafe's primary revenue source is the 500 yen entrance fee, which provides attendees with free food, drinks, and access to performances. This model banks on repeat visits, assuming high engagement levels. The psychological underpinning here is the ‘fear of missing out’ (FOMO), as events are scheduled at one-hour intervals, creating urgency and encouraging multiple payments.
Examining the cost structure, Gakushu’s reliance on free performances by pop stars pals and comedian buddies significantly cuts entertainment expenses. This cost-saving measure, however, hinges on personal relationships, posing sustainability risks. If these relationships wane or if performers seek compensation in the future, it could disrupt the cost structure. Since this is a fictional case scenario, I'm going with the possibility that Gakushu's network can be relied on.
Tumblr media
The endorsement deal with Suzume Izakaya food services provides substantial financial support and in-kind contributions. This sponsorship not only reduces operational costs but also enhances the festival’s credibility, as Suzume Izakaya’s brand reputation can attract more visitors who trust the quality of the food and beverages.
Offering free food and drinks is a double-edged sword. On one hand, it is an attractive feature that can draw a large number of attendees, enhancing perceived value and satisfaction. On the other hand, it presents a significant cost burden. Effective inventory management and supplier negotiations are crucial to balance cost and supply. There is also a risk of overconsumption, which must be managed to avoid resource depletion.
Operational efficiency is another critical component of Gakushu's plan. Organizing events at one-hour intervals on different stages maximizes space and time utilization, keeping the audience engaged and minimizing downtime. This continuous engagement strategy ensures that attendees are constantly entertained, increasing the likelihood of repeat entrance fee payments. The immediate start of subsequent events also helps maintain a steady flow of visitors, reducing congestion and enhancing the overall customer experience.
Psychologically, the one-hour event intervals create a sense of urgency and scarcity, compelling attendees to make quick decisions to attend multiple events. This tactic leverages the psychological principle that limited availability increases perceived value, driving higher engagement and repeat visits.
The use of celebrity performances taps into social proof and authority. Featuring well-known pop stars and comedians draws their fan bases and generates buzz, enhancing the festival’s attractiveness. This social influence can significantly boost attendance, as people tend to follow the actions of those they admire. The endorsement by Suzume Izakaya also adds an element of authority and trust, reassuring attendees about the quality and safety of the festival’s offerings.
The all-inclusive 500 yen entrance fee creates a high perceived value, making attendees feel they are getting a good deal. This pricing strategy increases their willingness to pay, especially when considering the continuous entertainment and free provisions. The plan also aims to foster customer loyalty by ensuring a captivating experience that encourages repeat visits.
Tumblr media
Quoting what the Virtuosos said, such a complex and multifaceted plan is particularly challenging for a third-year junior high student. The management skills required to coordinate performances, manage resources, negotiate partnerships, and ensure operational efficiency are significant. Gakushu’s ability to pull off this plan and win the school festival showcases exceptional organizational and leadership skills. This ability to leverage personal networks and psychological principles to drive engagement and revenue are commendable. Successfully managing such a demanding project at 15 could be foreshadowing of his future as an executive when he started a business in Silicon Valley after receiving an MBA at MIT.

Asano Gakuho's Bonsai
A bonsai is a living tree which is trained and encouraged to grow in a small container, shaped by its caregiver into a pleasing form.
Bonsai involves the cultivation and training of miniature trees, typically through pruning, wiring, and potting techniques; the focus is on creating a naturalistic representation of a mature tree in a small scale. Likening Gakushu's upbringing to the art of bonsai in terms of symbolism blatantly told me about how he was cultivated by his own caregiver, Gakuho.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"I've given Asano more than enough opportunities.. to be the role model of my pedagogical method. But.. if he fails to win by a landslide in this case, though it's so heavily weighted in his favor.. then i no longer need him to play the poster child."
Dlving into the more unnatural aspects of it, in the analogy to bonsai cultivation, there's an inherent tension between human intervention and the natural growth of the tree. Similarly, Gakushu's growth represents a stark imposition of control and manipulation, where his development was orchestrated to fulfill his Gakuho's ambitions. His growth was stunted and his individuality suppressed in service of external expectations.
Despite the pressure and constraints placed upon him, Gakushu demonstrated a remarkable ability to adapt and thrive, much like a bonsai tree weathering the elements. Bonsai reflects the Japanese aesthetic of "wabi-sabi," which appreciates the beauty of imperfection and impermanence. It reflected the internal struggle Gakushu faced as he grappled with the rigid expectations imposed upon him and his own desires. And while he may exhibit resilience in the face of adversity, it's a resilience born out of necessity rather than genuine autonomy— a survival mechanism honed through years of conditioning and repression. Some twisted mentality that losing is worse than dying.
Just as a bonsai embodies the essence of nature constrained by human intervention, Gakushu embodies his father's aspirations and expectations, shaped to fit into a mold of invulnerable strength that doesn't exist.

Timeskip 学秀 | Why a Tech CEO?
Gakushu's choice to pursue an MBA at MIT and become the CEO of a tech company in Silicon Valley at 23 made too much sense. With HIS ambition, he would excel in a field where intellect and innovation are highly valued. Silicon Valley would provide him with the platform to showcase his abilities and give him the opportunity to exercise his influence on a much grander scale compared to his timeskip reign in high school.
Tumblr media
Choosing MIT for his MBA was definitely a deliberate decision to associate himself with one of the world's top institutions for technology and business education. Not only would it enhance his knowledge but also establish valuable connections within the tech community, which is something we already know he would prioritize because he puts a lot of importance in networking.
Gakushu thrives in the tech industry because of the dynamic and innovative nature of the field. His intellect would find resonance in an industry where constant learning and adaptation are paramount. The fast-paced evolution of technology demands individuals who can quickly grasp new concepts and lead teams through rapid advancements, just like how we've seen him throughout the progression of Assassination Classroom.
Such an industry involves strategic maneuvering, negotiations, and complex interpersonal dynamics, areas where his manipulative prowess becomes a valuable asset. His inclination to control and dominate complements with the high-stakes nature of tech business, where companies strive to outperform rivals and establish market dominance.
The global and interconnected nature of the tech sector also caters to Gakushu as evidenced by his recruitment of overseas friends during the pole-topping tournament. His choice of career, with its collaborative and diverse environment, allows him to leverage these connections and resources.
Tumblr media
Gakushu's moral compass, which consistently clashed with his father's extreme methods, might have found solace in technology's potential for positive impact. Many tech companies focus on innovation for social good, which could provide an avenue for him to contribute positively to society while maintaining that competitive edge that drives him forward.
