What Do You Do When You Get Sick?
Interview a classmate about his or her strategies for getting healthy or staying healthy. The following questions may help you to assess the person’s understandings of health, disease, illness, and proper health care.
Whom do you call? Do you call your mom, dad, doctor, pharmacy, health food store, pastor, friends, massage therapist, chiropractor, campus health center, hospital? My mother or grandmother
What strategies do you use to get well? I take an offbrand Nyquil and Dayquil. Do you sleep, drink orange juice, eat chicken soup, take vitamin C, get antibiotics? I sleep most of the time. Do you starve a cold and feed a fever? I feed both of them at the same time. Do you follow practices from a culture outside the United States?I don’t know
What strategies do you use to relieve the pain? Pain reliver or tylenol  Do you take medications for fever, headache, cough, and running nose or do you let them run their course? Yes i do.  Do you take over- the-counter pain relievers or get a doctors prescription for something more powerful? Both. Do you apply heat or ice? No Do you ask for a massage? No
Are your healing strategies guided by moral economic, religious, or legal mandates or constraints, for instance about the use of alcohol, medical marijuana, or narcotics? No
How do you figure out what made you sick so you don’t get sick again? Previous actions. Do you wash your hands more often? No. Use hand sanitizer? yeah  Filter or boil your water? No. Consult an older adult, a doctor or an online source such as WebMD? Yes
When you are sick, how do you keep others from being infected? I sleep most of the time so people don’t really bother me. Do you cover your mouth when you sneeze? yes. Do you stop hugging and kissing your friends and family and loved ones? yes and no. Do you take medications or other preparation's more regularly? Yes
How do you feel about getting sick? I feel like everybody gets sick once in a blue moon. What do you think getting sick  says about you as a person? It says nothing at all because everybody gets sick. What does it say about you if you have certain symptoms: cold, fever, diarrhea, a sexual transmitted infection? Some people have weak immune systems, but people get sick whenever
Is there a social cause of your illness or disease? No. Is it from poor hygiene by others, lack of clean water, or improper food inspection or preparation? From season changes. Does a stigma about the illness or disease keep you from seeking treatment? no. Is treatment too expensive for you? No. Is it too difficult for you to access health care (too far away)? no
She could’ve learn these strategies from her mother, father, or grandparents. I think it is an American culture to do those types of strategies. I do these same strategies too. Yes I can because people from other  cultures don’t have the same access to medicine as we do. They probably go for a more natural medicine then medicine you buy from out the store. Most of the time natural medicine works faster and better anyway.

My Immigrant is from Mexico and is the age of 21. Her mother and father died leaving her with her 3 younger siblings, she moved to the USA to give her a siblings a better quality of life, meaning she had to step up and find a trusting partner to assist her with resources and all that’s needed for their legalization. This person was a close family friend, he assisted them with money, illegitimate passports and further documentation. When the time came to cross the border, they encountered crooked mercenaries causing multiple causalities along the way, but they made it out safely. While trying to cross the river, they came across a rip current which sadly pulled away and drowned her 2 youngest siblings. Now with only one sibling she told herself she couldn’t lose another one but things took a turn for the worst. They stopped at a safe house, where they received refuge and they were later stuffed and smuggled into boxes which were then placed on a moving truck, and she unfortunately got separated from her brother. Upon arrival, she ransacked the boxes searching for her brother, yet she came to no avail she never gave up, safe house after safe house, she continued to search and ask questions alluding to her brothers disappearance. Finally in the US, she found out that her brother was discovered and deported right back to Mexico. Although she was devastated, she made it an obligation to get her correct documentation so that she could travel back to Mexico, find her brother, and legally take him back to the US so that he could have finally gotten his fresh start.

The Hersey’s Chocolate Bar
Tumblr media
The ingredients of a Hershey’s chocolate bar is sugar, chocolate, almonds, cocoa butter, milk fat, cocoa processed with alkali, sunflower oil, and lecithin (soy)
Sugar comes from the leaves of the sugarcane. Chocolate comes from the cocoa which comes from the seed of the Theobroma cocoa tree. Almonds come the almond trees. Cocoa butter comes from the seeds of the sunflower plant. Lecithin comes from eggs, soy or sunflower seeds.
Sugar is made from sugarcane leaves through photosynthesis and is stored as a sweet juice in sugarcane stalks. The chocolate process has a lot of steps such as, fermentation, drying, roasting, and grinding of the cocoa beans. Almonds are mechanical shaken from the tree. They take the cocoa beans from the cacao plant and they are roasted, stripped and pressed to separate it out of the fat. Sunflower oil is obtained with a cold- press extraction. They make lecithin by hydrating soy, safflower, or corn oil.
They have children working on cocoa plantations and are exposed to dangerous hazardous machines. They also have the children lifting heavy loads and are spending many hours in the hot sun.
After the beans are taken out, they need to be fermented, dried, cleaned, and packed. They then pack the beans into cocoa sacks and are ready to sell to the intermediaries.
The prices are set by the supply and demand levels
The Hershey’s Chocolate company dominates the chocolate trade.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) controls all the trades.
Chocolate is marketed based on flavor innovation, health benefits, increased accessibility, small portions for less, and marketing indulgence.
I buy my chocolate bars from grocery stores or gas stations.
For regular chocolate, expect for the charge of chocolate to be around $7-$10 per pound. They add 10% to the price if you add special occasion packaging. For a store owner, they will enjoy profit margins between 55-75%.
Yes there is hidden cost. There hidden cost is child labor.

Marx’s Theory
This article is about slavery. It shows the two different social classes such as bourgeoisie and proletariat. It shows how things use to work back in the day with the different social classes. Slaves use to work in the factories and slave owners used to run those factories to make sure they were getting their wealth from the slaves.

Weber’s Theory
This article talks about how Trump abuses his power while being the president of the United States. This article somewhat proves Weber’s theory. Weber said that power can come in different forms. This article proves how Trump has the different powers and abuses those powers.
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwirl8DY64f0AhVXpXIEHfodCRQQFnoECAQQAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.history.com%2Fthis-day-in-history%2Fruby-bridges-desegregates-her-school&usg=AOvVaw2cyRG80QVtx8ODICdq82mn
Bourdieu’s theory
This story explains how a young girl named Ruby Bridges was the first black girl to go to an all white school. When she went to the school there was a lot of people surrounding the school telling her to go back to the where she came from and threatening her. During school parents children didn’t want their kids around her so they would take their kids from out the class she was in. In the end they made peace with her and she helped more black kids attend white schools. This has something to with Bourdieu’s theory to social class because he talks about the education reproduction and the cultures.

And we have all been separated back in the days. Everybody had different paths. Sometimes they would visit on a vacation then leave but when my cousins would come down it wouldn’t be the same. Nobody would talk to nobody.

My family as always been kind of separated with the sides of the family. My mothers side or the family barley talks to my dads side of the family. When I was younger I never really talked to my mothers side of the family. I was closer with my dads side of the family. With past events, I eventually became closer to my moms side of the family but I was still close with my dads side of the family. I grew up with my cousins on my dads side of the family when I was younger and then they moved to the states with my aunt so eventually it was just me on the island by myself with my aunts uncles and grandparents on my dads side. My cousins on my moms side lives in the states and 2 of them didn’t come into this world until like 2013 up so they are younger than me. When I moved to the states is when I got to get to know better which is happening in the present.:)

3 commercials were aimed at boys and 3 commercials were aimed were aimed at girls.
Majority of the commercials were not gendered.
They used toys to attract the girls and boys. They also used boy shows and girls shows to attract them separately.
We do create gender roles. We have titles on so many things that separate our genders. People say girls can’t do what boys do and girls can’t do what boys do. For example boys can’t get piercings because it’s “gay” for a man to get a piercing because of where they are placed.

Miscegenation- Miscegenation is related to race or racism because it deals with a group of different races or marriage with different races. The school in the United States have miscegenation. There isn’t a problem in schools with race. Some areas in the United States have all white communities with no other races. But mostly the United States is miscegenation. There are whites that marry blacks or blacks that marry Hispanics.
Tumblr media
White supremacy- White supremacy is related to race or racism they believe that whites are different and superior to other races. I find that hard to believe. I believe that whites have some black in them that they don’t even know they have. Before them there was their ancestors. Whites believe they should be above all of the other races. The Jews also have a part of this white supremacy. They target African Americans. Example: The Ku Klux Klan
Tumblr media
Jim Crow- The Jim Crow laws were laws that enforced racial segregation in Southern states. They represented the African Americans. The Jim Crow laws have a part in white supremacy. They had different rules for whites and blacks. Whites and blacks couldn’t share the same things. Whites feared blacks for certain reasons.

1. The class I chose was my Freshman Orientation for Public Health class. This class has a lot of people in it. There are more women than men in this class. Mostly women comment or speak when in class. But the teacher does more of the talking.
2. They normally speak for 2-3 minutes depending on what they are talking about. They mostly talk to ask questions about the class and certain issues they have with getting a textbook for the class or other concerns.
3. MEN and women both can use their body language to show how much the are interested. Women use facial expressions and eye contact more then men. While talking to people women usually use their facial expressions and eye contact when holding a conversation with others. Men don’t hold conversations as well as women. There conversations are more straightforward while females conversations are usually longer and are based on complex and emotional topics. Men will usually approach a woman first, but men have a hard time expressing how they feel about a woman.
4. Women keep their cameras on more than men.
5. The instructor is a man. He is very big on communication. He wants the best for his students. He is always looking up and down between his desk and the screen on his computer. He is always sitting straight, very professional.
6. I personally think that the instructors gender does not influence the way he interacts with the class.

1.The location I chose was the Waterfront in St.Thomas USVI. What drew me to it was the fact that it is a tourism spot. What I found was a lot of jewelry and local stores.
2.I never noticed how many stores that location actually has. If you drive through the area you will see the amount of stores the area actually has.
4.What is absent are the mini malls in drake passages. There is more than on passage to go through will walking around the area.
5.Since the area is a tourist spot, this specific area has been closed for a while but recently opened back up since the island is allowing cruise ships to come ever now and then. The stores have been open but if you drive by you will see no tourist walking around, you will see locals or very few tourist who flew down from the states on vacation.

What I learned from myself doing this assignment is that I have a lot of needs and not a lot of wants. I have more wants but they are not necessarily in my environment at the moment. My wants are more permanent then other wants. Everybody has something they need everyday. Our everyday life is based on needs.

The original hanger was a piece of wire with two ovals together in the middle with a twist. They were created for space- saving for your closet.
They were manufactured in North of North Britain, Connecticut.
Hangers are a necessity in our everyday life. We used them to hang up our shirts, suits, dress, etc.
Hangers were invented by Albert J. Park house in 1869. He invented the hanger because his co workers were complaining that there are very little coat hooks. He eventually got a piece of wire and started to bend it until the hanger got it’s form.
