TW: Racism and stereotypes.

Gorillaz Artists and Fans, I think it’s time we talk about Del’s old design. Again. As I still see people drawing it in 2021.

It’s a very racist design, why is it racist? Because, his design is VERY similar to a black caricature. Black people in the past, and even now were drawn like this. Look up Jim Crow Laws and Black caricatures. It’s very harmful to black people and the affects of these things still show even in 2021.

Although, Jamie does learn from this and changes the design later on. The fact is that a lot of people still draw this version. It’s very uncomfortable as a black person to see this. And even watching ClintEastwood video makes me very uncomfortable.

Please stop doing this!

If Jamie can see an issue with Del’s design and change it as for other artists who drew Del without the red lip feature. So can you. Please take the time to educate yourselves on these things and do better.

a couple people on twitter said “hey does anyone else find it a little weird that noodle’s body type has changed entirely and the camera is fixed on her chest and butt in some shots, in one shot her face isnt even showing but her body is, and at the same time she has stopped talking and only speaks in emojis now”

and then a dozen fake progressives, who were tweeting “STEP ON ME NOODLE YOU’RE SO SEXY IN THIS VIDEO” moments prior, all descended on people making this observation in a massive tidal wave of “WHY ARE YOU SEXUALIZING HER?!?!?! SHE’S ALLOWED TO WEAR WHAT SHE WANTS AND BODIES CHANGE, YOU PERVERT. WOMEN DON’T HAVE TO COVER UP FOR YOU”

guys. you are aware she’s not a real woman, right? you are aware that she was designed by a cis white man? that she is a cartoon? you are aware that shots like this are not advancements in women’s rights? 

it is okay to admit you find her good-looking you do not have to wrap it in progressive language. it is also okay to be critical of the way a piece of media handles its one and only female character. this is not the same as dress-coding a real life woman jesus god in heaven. 

i promise you these decisions were not made because “women’s rights” and you know that lmao
