Bejeweled video is out NOW! Directed by this tired tacky wench. Got to make this with my best friends The Haim Sisters, greatest of greats Laura Dern, icon of burlesque and glamour Dita Von Teese, genius and actual dame Pat McGrath and my partner in Midnights mayhem Jack Antonoff. Love you guys so much. Stay sparkly out there. 😘

taylor’s control of language always sends me into oblivion when i hear some of her songs. there’s this super sexy thing in linguistics called topicalization where you put the a phrase at the beginning of the sentence instead of its canonical position further right in the sentence to emphasise the an action or feeling over the thing. it appears in cruel summer when she says “it’s new, the shape of your body / it’s blue, the feeling i got” and again in invisible string when she says “bold was the waitress on our three year trip / cold was the steel of my axe to grind / gold was the colour of the leaves / hell was the journey but it brought me heaven” however she usually uses this for emotions instead of actions. she doesnt want to emphasise what happened, but how it feels. she creates such sensory in her songs but not of a sound or a sight but an emotion and thats neat

At the end of Book 1, Aang achieved his greatest victory as the Avatar up to that point. Together with Katara, Sokka and the fighters of the Northern Water Tribe, he successfully defended it against the Fire Nation and things appear promising for the Gaang's journey.
Zuko, one the other hand, is at lowest point since the beginning of the show. He has no ship, no crew, no Avatar and he's in a weak condition. So close to regaining his honour, only for it to slip through his fingers.
The scenario is reversed at the end of Book 2, where Aang hits rock bottom and Zuko ( supposedly ) attains victory. Aang ends up losing his access to the Avatar state, his life before Katara revives him and this time he doesn't manage to defend the nation he's protecting. The only thing he gains is the scar on his back from Azula, which becomes a reminder of what considers his new great failure.
On the other side we have Zuko, who has aided in the Avatara's defeat and is about to be welcomed home with open arms for his deed. But, in the end, we know he ends up realising returning wasn't what he thought it was going to be, because he is a changed man.
During their final battles, each of them has a moment when it looks like they will not pull through ( Zuko hurting himself in a hurry to redirect Azula's lightning and Aang surrounding himself in a rock shield as Ozai tries to break it ), yet they end up being triumphant and with matching scars given by the same person to boot.
The series itself comes to a close with both character finding balance within themselves and being ready to bring it to the world as well by working together.
Their friendship is the symbol of a new era, two former enemies coming together to restore peace to the nations and to each other as friends.

you’re all stupid if you think disney has ever been on the side of representation. mulan turned a chinese story about filial duty to a girl fighting against misogyny (because misogyny is only present in cultures of color) and disrespected chinese culture, aladdin is a fucking clown show of orientalism and racism that can’t be summed up in one phrase, princess and the frog had their black princess be a frog for the whole movie, pocahontas romanticized colonialism and objectified native women. disney has only ever been about consuming exotic cultures and watering them down enough for white people to swallow. this type of “representation matters” discourse is what happens when you get your education from tumblr and act like any superficial inclusion of brown people makes you progressive. newsflash: it doesn’t.

Yo Biden just announced an infrastructure devolopment/clean energy/environmental justice plan and it's honesty pretty fucking amazing and much more ambitious than I ever would have expected from him, goddamn. He's trying to Eisenhower/New Deal our way out of the economic collapse.
Some notable points addressed by this plan:
Expanding American railway systems
Fixing the crumbling roads, bridges, dams, etc. that haven't been kept up
Capping abandoned oil wells
Undoing Trump's financial bailout policies for unclean energy companies
Reinvesting in American-made automotive companies
Getting America to 100% clean energy by 2035
Fixing air, water, and ground pollution issues that disproportionately affect poc
Getting justice for victims of environmental racism
Reinstating a bunch of environmental and medical jobs Trump had cut
Getting the US back on the Paris Agreement/Climate Accord

In isolation my imagination has run wild and this album is the result, a collection of songs and stories that flowed like a stream of consciousness. Picking up a pen was my way of escaping into fantasy, history, and memory. I’ve told these stories to the best of my ability with all the love, wonder, and whimsy they deserve. Now it’s up to you to pass them down.

mirrorball reminds me of “find out what you want, be that girl for a month” but it’s a matured realization. in blank space she’s writing satirically about how the media portrays her. in mirrorball she’s owning up. she says, i’ll show you yourself, i’ll reflect you, “i can change everything about me to fit in”, i’m not natural all i do is try. it’s so sad but honest and raw. and so fucking relatable. that desire to be loved by someone that you need like a drug so you become who you think they want you to be.
