A fan blog dedicated to the Doctor Fate character. Feel free to inquire about the history of Doctor Fate in DC Comics's publication (I am pretty aware of his media portrayals also). Also, don't expect to see support for Eric/Linda Strauss's version of Doctor Fate.

An interesting fact about the Doctor Fate mantle that gets overlooked pretty often is that it’s not just a thing for the Lords of Order; DC’s version of God or Allah or Yahweh (whichever you prefer) is also watching & just like the Phantom Stranger or the Spectre, Doctor Fates can and IS guided by the same divine force.
Now this is especially important for Khalid’s approach but this is true to an extent for all Doctor Fates even if they aren’t necessarily tied to Abrahamic religions.

Has anyone actually read Immortal Doctor Fate? Y’all thought Nabu would let Kent have enough of a life to get drowned in pussy?
Lol hell naw. Bitch was NOT Steel Maxum.
He was lucky to have Inza. Also, Kent got aged up; he was never “their” age (Cassandra Sandsmark/Damian Wayne is a ugly, stupid ship btw.)

DC Comics Encyclopedia: All-New Edition (2016)
While the more current version can be found easily, the 2016 Encyclopedia isn’t as lucky so heres Doctor Fate’s entry covering Khalid Nassour.
Whats interesting is that in earlier stories when Khalid first debuted, the entire idea Doctor Fate has existed for a milennia was more plausible in his direction. At this time, DC Editorial forbade referencing heavily of certain characters like the JSA & Kent Nelson included.
But Kent was re-introduced & in both DC Infinite Encyclopedia & 2023 Justice Society of America clarified past Fates were simply Egyptian champions Nabu uses as vessels and didn’t use the code and or have agency until Kent in 1940.

DC’s Current Appointed Defenders of Magic + Patrons
Hauhet/Khalid Nassour - The patron and bearer of the Helmet of Fate. As the one bearing the title of Doctor Fate, 20-something year old Khalid is supported by goddess Hauhet as he is the chief universal mystic defender against the forces of evil and chaos.
Mamaragan/Billy Batson - The Keeper of the Rock & the Champion of Magic. While there are multiple champions, 15/16 year old Billy is the chosen Champion of Magic supported by Mamaragan, otherwise known as the Wizard Shazam. As Champion of Magic, he is set to inherit the Rock of Eternity, lead the next incarnation of the Council of Eternity, & protect the Seven Magiclands.
Fun fact: Both aforementioned characters’ role has been acknowledged by forces representing the creator of the DC Universe, be it archangels (Khalid) or the Spectre (Billy).

That is true but I was more focused on his more later appearances, which don't feature him being a physician in favor of him being a archaeologist. I also did it because apparently, Harley Quinn (Tom Taylor really) thinks only physicians are doctors and that just plain inaccurate. So him not being "that kind of Doctor" makes sense to say.

Shoutout to Inza Cramer

and Khalid Nassour

for being the canonical Doctor Fates that use their overwhelming magical powers to help the “little guys”, which includes scaring racist assholes, stopping law enforcement getting violent in peaceful protests, putting rich people & government bureaucrats in their place, & more.

Sometimes you're a magic lady who spent 50 years with little freedom and you fall in love with an Amazonian princess and hang out on the moon together and get to feel free and in control of your life and one day you'll kiss.
(I think it's hilarious that there are at least TWO Diana ships involving archaeologists.)

Kent Nelson doesn’t have “previous knowledge of Doctor Fate” because he is the first Doctor Fate. Instead, his knowledge in later retcons comes from Nabu magically granting him the knowledge.
Contrary to popular belief, no Doctor Fate confers past knowledge of the previous. That would make it sound like DC had a plan for Doctor Fate & did not scrap and re-do the character 6 times before they finally created a direction more consistent the 7th time between 1986-2014.

What are his credentials?

Kent has a doctorates in Archaeology. I’m guessing Egyptianology is his specialization even though comics kinda do an inaccurate take & he’s well versed in more areas.

I remember a while ago wondering what Doctor Fate was present in Outsiders #9 (2024) and asking the writer(s) behind it and that was his answer.
The description he gave was honestly something that I found odd because what he described is almost the typical depiction of Doctor Fate in YOUNG JUSTICE. In that same issue, the “Doctor Fate” is beefing with Klarion, an antagonistic relationship only present in that series because Klarion WAS A Etrigan based villain in comics.
Also, why would you have this guy as Doctor Fate when you already have Khalid Nassour? I don’t see them feeling the need to “imagine” a new JOHN CONSTANTINE or a new DOCTOR OCCULT but we needed to imagine a new Fate when he’s the only Egyptian born Fate in mainstream continuity? And Khalid himself already broke the fourth wall so it woulda been /perfect/.
Just seems to me Khalid is overlooked just because his skin & ethnicity isn’t whats preferred. 🤷🏾 Also, YJ has definitely infected the thoughts of that character.
