Filipino people aren’t just limited to Filipino/Tagalog speakers or Tagalog people. Don’t think that reclaiming our identities simply mean we want to learn Tagalog or that we want to be accepted by the general Philippine society because I can guarantee that those who don’t speak English/Filipino in the Philippines are often discriminated against. 

Indigenous languages to the Philippines may one day die out and some are dying out because younger generations are being immersed into a more unified culture that erases their indigenous history. 

There are about 150+ languages in the Philippines, 19 of which are officially seen as auxiliary languages, and indigenous people who cannot keep up with the demands of the Philippine government and mainstream society. 

There are hundreds of languages, hundreds of cultures, and roughly 100 million people living in the Philippines���while including diasporic Filipinos living outside the Philippines who are part of these cultures and ethnic people.

I say this because as someone who is Filipino with Ilocano, Itneg, Bisayan, and Tagalog roots, I want to be able to reclaim every part that makes me Filipino. So if you are a Filipino person with mixed identities within the multitude of cultures across the Philippines, there is so much more that we have to try and reclaim.

Every October, we celebrate Filipino American History Month. In honor of this wonderful month long celebration, here are some of the books written by Filipino authors. The majority of these titles is starring by Filipino characters as well. In addition to featuring our rich and magnificent culture, they also tackle the diaspora, otherization most of us experience on a daily basis. Hey everyone! I have the same application as before but if you have filled it out before, I would urge you to fill it out again. Just some quick tidbits:

As of July/25/2015, there is no intended deadline for this application but we hope to get as many people on board as possible

You must be 18 years or older to apply

Mods/Admins are two different roles and the application will tell you the differences

We are looking for Filipinxs who are NOT from the USA! However saying this, it won’t hurt your chances if you are. We have been asked in the past to have mods/admins who are from the Philippines so we hope to get some different voices in regards to where our Filipinxs are from. Also, the current team is primarily FilAms so we would like more voices.
