Mini-Skateboards - What Are Mini-Skatebords, Advantages
Over the ages, skateboarding has developed into a blooming canvas, painted with countless forms of the hobby. From the beginning of the sport to present date, skating companies and manufacturers have been re-shaping decks; longboards are now a huge part of the skating industry. With the constant tweaking and development of the standard shape of a skateboard, mini-skateboards, also known as shortboards, are thriving in the present times as they once were at the beginning stages when skating first hit mainstream markets.
· What is the definition of a mini skateboards? Mini skate decks are usually shorter than the standard skate deck size, which is usually in the range of 30 to 32 inches. The decks have various shapes, some even replicating kick flip decks with symmetrical kick tails at both ends. Others are replicas of early designs that were being skated before the kick flip deck existed.
· Components and Complete Setups Trucks with shortened lengths fit these small boards to imitate the original feel of a true, classic, mini skateboard. There are certain mini decks on the market that will not be compatible with the larger and softer longboarding wheels. Adding riser pads to the trucks will remove wheel bite, opening up the possibility to add virtually any size wheel to a mini skateboard setup. Simplicity is the key to shortboards; however, skaters have experimented with the decks several times over. Adding longboard trucks and changing bushing combinations can totally change the feel and ride of a mini skateboard setup.
Size – length, width, shape
Components – wheels, trucks, hardware size
Skating Style – Flip tricks vs. General commuting and cruising vs. A combination of all of the above
The Mini market is continuing to grow. Some companies, such as GFH Boards, make the mini board their premiere model and have several different mini models to offer. Other companies do not bother with the old school mini concept. Several people are discouraged by the board’s size and underestimate the capability of the design. Like any other product in any other market, one must educate oneself and try equipment out before making a valid judgment. Check out the market today and try something new, fun, environmentally sound, and health conscious CABYm'ys

How to Be a Skater Girl
Everyone wants to be a skater these days. Luckily, this means that many more girls are getting into skateboarding and skater culture. To be a skater girl, you'll have to hone your skills, develop a certain attitude and adopt the style. Don't worry about looking good to boys or impressing them. Remember, you're doing this for yourself and it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks
Steps
1
Start off with a good girls skateboards. No cheap ones from Walmart. Although they are $25 dollars and can be tempting, don't buy one from there or any other stores like that. Get one from a good skate store. Don't focus on what it looks like, just get a good, complete mini logo deck. Go to a local skate store and ask anyone questions. Do not be afraid to say, "Hey, I'm new at this stuff and I was wondering..." They will most likely be more than glad to help you out.
2
Purchase a board. A smaller board and medium-sized (53mm-57mm), soft-ish (92a-98a) wheels will be easier to learn on. Independent trucks turn the best but Thunders or Ventures are better for a beginner since they turn less and make your wheelbase longer so your board will feel more stable. Save up the money and go to your local skate shop and purchase a complete setup including deck, trucks, wheels, and bearings. Ask them if they can put it together or learn how to do it yourself. Also, have them go over the parts of the board with you. You can also get other parts for your board and trick it out to make it you. For example, get grip tape with crazy designs on them and different colored wheels and trucks. Or you can bust out the paint pens and spray paint.
3
Get some safety gear. A helmet, elbow pads, knee pads, etc. A lot of skaters just wear nothing or a simple baseball cap to look good don't be that oblivious to risk your own head for the looks, or you could suffer major, permanent damage. This may sound like your parents talking, but if you fall down you'll be glad you have a helmet on.
4
Get good skate shoes. Normal shoes don't grip well on skateboards, and if you want to do tricks such as ollies, kickflips and all of those other cool tricks, your regular shoes will rip in 30 minutes. Suede and leather are more durable than canvas. Emerica/Etnies, Lakai, Nike, Converse, Adidas, Puma, Vans, DC, Supra, Circa, DVS, Globe, Habitat and Fallen all make good skate shoes. Most importantly, never buy girl skate shoes! You can get them for looks, but they don't do much good. For about same price, you can get longer lasting, better gripping, guy's (boy's/kid's or men's) skate shoes. You could always get plain skater shoes and decorate them later using a paint pen or sharpie. A shoe size conversion chart will help sizing guy's shoes or try 1.5-2 sizes smaller than girls shoe sizes
5
Start off slow. Don't try to grind the rails, kickflip off of 10 stair stairset. Just cruise around until you are comfortable. Also, you might want to figure out your stance. Regular is riding with your left foot forward and pushing with your right foot. Goofy is riding with your right foot forward and pushing with left foot. Pushing Mongo (with your front foot) is a bad habit to get into, because you don't have as much balance, and it takes longer to get into a cruising stance from a pushing stance. To learn more, go to about.com and search.
6
Learn to Ollie. You should probably learn to ollie. This is what every trick in skateboarding comes from. It's very important. Also go to the skate park to learn. I mean be modest, but people don't care if you're bad. Then you can ask people "Hey can you help me with my ollie?". It's always good to do this, and don't be afraid to ask: it makes people feel good.
7
Get some skate friends. Once you know a thing or two about skating, find some friends who are willing to join you. It's funnier to be skating with friends than alone. Besides, do you really want to fall down, look silly and have a bruise alone? No. Get some friends.
8
Be modest. If you are learning how to skateboard, don't act like you're the coolest skater girl ever to step on a skateboard. Be honest and humble about your abilities.
9
Do your homework. Know what all the parts of a skateboard are called and know what to call the tricks you do. Deck, bearings, trucks, wheels, grip tape; easy enough.
10
Learn how to skate. Practice the basics of skating. You can watch skate How-To's on Youtube, but the best way to learn is to actually go outside and start.
11
Don't be afraid to fall! Learn how to fall... Fear is your worst enemy when learning how to skateboard. Make sure to wear the right gear when skating and don't rush into learning complicated tricks until you have mastered rolling, stopping, pushing, carving, turning, kickturns, and the ollie.
12
Do not shop at places like Hot Topic for your skate apparel. The only things you'd want from there if you're committed to looking cool would be band t-shirts, hoodies, and piercings.
13
Don't wear too much makeup! A little is great, like something more natural. If you wear heavy eyeliner and eye shadow is cool too, if it works for you, but just take note that it doesn't work for everyone. You get all sweaty skateboarding, and then your makeup just wears off and it's uncomfortable.
14
Get sponsored by skate brands if you're good enough. It's really difficult to get sponsored though. Some of the best skaters can't get sponsored by anyone but their local skate shop.
15
Find out what kind of skater you are. There are several types of skaters: Freestylists, who basically make up their own cool tricks, street skaters, who are all about jumps and grinds, vert skaters who do flips, ramps, and are usually the people you see on TV, and cruisers, who are a sort of relative of skaters, who are mainly about some ramps, stance, and lots of speed. Cruisers are usually mistaken for posers. But if that's what you do, it's ok.

Different Types Of Skateboarding
There are quite a few different types of skateboarding nowadays that require different set ups. It’s important when you look to buy a new board that you understand a bit about what you are going to use it for to get the best out of it and have the most fun.
Street Skating
This is probably the most popular type of skateboarding around at the moment. Basically bombing around the local streets grinding the curbs, benches and walls and sliding down the longest had rails. There are endless tricks to learn and new trick combinations coming out every day. It is a really creative type of skating where you make the most of what is front of you in the street. It is so much fun as the terrain varies so much and can be a long run down a street to a session on a set of steps all day long. This is a really accessible type of skating, all of us have curbs, walls and steps around where we live that can be skated. It is pretty cheap to get going to, all you need to do is get yourself a set up and start bombing around the street. Watch a few youtube how to videos and other skaters to get a few tricks nailed and you are away.
Most street skater run a double ended deck that varies in width from around 7.75 inches to 8.5 inches, the narrower boards are easily do flick around for doing tricks where as the wider boards are a bit more stable. The wheels tend to be harder wheels at around 99a to 101a for great responsiveness and a good feel to the board. Watch some videos of your favourite street skaters and check what set ups they use to help determine what is for you.
Park Skating
Rolling around a nice smooth concrete park or indoor wooden park is so much fun. They are becoming much more common in towns around the UK and are the perfect place to master a combination of street skating obstacles and transition style tricks. They tend to have different sized obstacles for the beginners and really experienced skaters out there so something for everyone. The only problem is that you need to watch out for the scooters!
The set ups for this style so of skating are really similar to the street skating set ups, with the decks a little wider at around 8.25 inches up to 8.75 inches in some cases and with really hard wheels at 101a. The surfaces are so smooth that you can get away with super hard wheels that will make your board very fast!
Long Boarding
This is more for the people out there who want to cruise around at a pretty good speed and are not too interested in the latest tricks and technical stuff. These boards are much longer and are very stable at speed with wide trucks and soft large wheels. The wheels will soak up all of the bumps and cracks in the pavement and these boards can be ridden on surfaces that are a little less smooth. They are pretty easy to get to grips with as well as they are so stable so good fun for the beginners out there. The image of long boarders is like surfing on wheels with great bog sweeping carves and a lot of style, its definitely a lot of fun.
Vert Skating
This is not the most accessible side to skateboarding but is very popular. It’s certainly pretty spectacular, with skaters flying out of the top of the transitions that are 10 to 13 feet high and doing all sorts of spins and tricks. One of the most famous vert skaters is Tony Hawk who is well known for landing the first 900 which is an amazing thing to watch. Not to many places have a vert ramp any more but a lot of parks have incorporated large transitions into the runs so you can still mix it up a bit.
The boards that very skaters tend to ride are very similar to the set ups in the park skating section with slightly wider decks and hard wheels for speed and stability.

Skate clothing brands are a big part of the sport and the culture that evolves around skateboarding. It is as important to look the part down at the skate park as well as being able to do all the latest tricks. Many people involved in the scene are passionate about music, clothing and extreme street sports in general and have the image to go with it. It may be that you are really into the boutique skateboard brands or you may be a big fan of the large skate clothing brands there are plenty of products for you to choose from.
Looking Like The Pros
We all aspire to look like our favourite pros when we are skating and this means wearing the same clothes and dressing in the same style. The many videos out there promote a lifestyle through skateboarding and clothing. It could be you like to wear skate clothing from their sponsors or you just like to wear the same style of clothes. There are a lot of brands and styles to choose from.
Most of the major manufactures also have a line in skate wear that promotes their brand and style with some graphics. These sometimes are branded or promote particular products like wheels or decks. Independent trucks have a hugely popular clothing range of skate clothing based on the classic logo that has stayed the same through the years.
Classic Skate Clothing
Not everyone loves all of the latest brands when it comes to skate clothing. Many skaters have been involved with the sport for decades and like to stick with the trusted brands like Vans Originals and Dickies clothing. These brands have been associated with the sport for many years and have a reputation for looking good but also for being extremely hard wearing. Dickies 874 trousers have been around for many years and originally were designed as work wear that would last a long time but have become an iconic part of skate clothing.
Big Brand Skate Wear
As the sport has grown in popularity it has moved into the main stream of sports. Skateboarding was once seen as something that the alternative kids were into but now with massive events such as the Dew Tour and X Games the major brands have started producing skate wear. Brands like Nike SB produce skate wear which are really popular with the younger skaters. Brands like Adidas also have skate wear lines available.
Skate T Shirts
T Shirts are a massive part of skate wear, showing off which brands you like or which pros you follow. Many of the companies sell T shirts that have deck graphics as well as brand logos or just cool designs. Classic T shirts from Independent Trucks and Santa Cruz seem to be timeless and always look good with the logo prints. Like all skate wear, T Shirts take a real battering from all of the countless wipe outs and sweaty sessions so quality is important. Cheap T shirts that stretch in a few days are no use so quality cotton T shirts are the way forward.

primitive deck review
As one of the newest brands out of the gate, many questions are being asked about Primitive Skateboards. Is it just Plan B wood with updated graphics? Did Paul fuse the best of his former sponsors into his debut deck brand? If I buy a gold deck, should I start talking into my hat? The world will never know. What we do know is that their team is formidably made up of skateboarding’s most technical talent but it’d be unfair to give them all the credit. As a skateboarder, you’re only going to be as good as your set-up. Don’t start having dreams of a flawless switch game on that X-games Toys R’ Us board. Supporting your local skate shop and brands that speak to you is the only way you’re going to skate at your full potential. Although Primitive isn’t as prevalent on the east coast, Primitive has become a huge hit everywhere in the world but marketing can only go so far. Of course, its extremely difficult to imagine that their decks have anything unique about them but a good graphic and a solid shape can make a world of a difference to a consumer. With their graphics in place, alongside Paul’s incredible skating and reach, we can only imagine how well Primitive boards are selling. But after riding one for this review, the likelihood of finding one on your shops deck wall will be really hard if you’re not quick on your feet. Sideview Shape This boards shape has a very reminiscent feel to P-Rod’s old sponsor, Girl. With a wide nose and shorter tail, the flick control is going to be solid. With that symmetrical width on both ends, you can also expect to catch your tricks with a bit more ease. Also, with its proportional levels, every flip trick should level out if performed correctly. This board was an 8.1 and felt really great under our feet. The board is made up of your traditional 7-ply construction but appears to use fairly thinner veneers when compared to other deck brands. These thinner veneers provide Primitive decks with a really light and responsive feel. The center of the board is pretty flat, which allows your feet to stay secure and comfortable while riding. ConcaveView Concave The concave on this deck is right in the middle–not too flat and not too steep. Depending on how you feel about concave, you’ll either love Primitive decks or need to stick it out with whatever you’re comfortable with. We know that the thought of changing from one deck brand to another is a scary feeling but we can’t imagine too many people minding Primitive’s mellow concave. It’s really relaxing on your foot and doesn’t forcefully prop your foot into an automated ollie position. You’ll just feel like you’re riding a cruiser board until you decide to pop. Only then will you realize how responsive this deck is. For flip tricks, we really didn’t have to change our foot placements around and we found that our foot consistently flicked the way we wanted it to. In other words, if you’re scarred you’ll lose your tricks by changing boards, don’t be. If anything, our tricks became even more consistent, which was a great fucking feeling. NoRazorTail Durability Its understandable to be apprehensive toward something new but we’re here to reassure you of Primitive’s durability. Thankfully for us, this board survived a pretty good beating. After 11 hours of skating everything from tranny to ledges, our Primitive board isn’t razor-tailing or losing its shape. The board still feels as stiff and responsive as the first day and the lack of chipping on the board has us practically praising Primitive decks.
