as I was finishing ntn for the first time, I found myself feeling a kind of resentment towards alecto. I had really grown to love and empathize with nona and she did not want to disappear, she wanted to stay herself. I knew it wasn't alecto's fault, obviously, and that all of this had been done to her by force, but it still felt like she was indirectly calling for nona's death. all was mostly mended when I read the last chapter because it turns out alecto's pov fucking rules, but still, like, my whole logic was flawed.
alecto didn't kill nona, she is nona. nona is alecto if she were brought into human life under, not even ideal circumstances (she very much lived in an occupied city while under semi-house arrest by an insurgent cell that periodically kidnapped her from her home), but under better circumstances where she was surrounded by people who love her. alecto is nona in such a horrific state of constant distress that she's been in one long tantrum for her entire carnal life. alecto likes to eat erasers and thinks flowers are sexy and loves going to the beach and adored noodle's little dog shoes and offered to give honesty her turpentine soaked cleaning rag. john wrapped his hands around nona's neck, stuffed her into his mouth, forced himself into her body, and made her a hideousness. and she still loved him because nona loves everyone. fucking hell.

Infinite Stairs and Dissected Buildings | Marcin Bialas | Socks Studio
Marcin Bialas is a Polish artist who’s specialized in etchings and drawings in black an white. Among his large production, a recurring theme is dissected buildings and surreal constructions, such as infinite staircases and labyrinthine interiors, an atemporal combination of G.B. Piranesi and Brodsky/Utkin prints. The structures seem unfinished, yet already in ruin, able to plunge the viewer into an uncomfortable feeling. Somewhere between nightmares and theatrical settings, Marcin Bialas’ retro drawings explore the dramatic potential of different projections and points of view.

I’m a big fan of that post-laundry feeling when you’ve got all your A-list clothes back in the game.
