where, when the first problems with a single person carrying the neural load come up, they fix it by giving pilots ai to take some of the strain instead of making people have co-pilots

and it works great at first, it works fantastically - until the disasters begin

tex, an attempt at simply piloting a jaeger using two ai, becomes dangerously unpredictable. she gets fantastic results, 100% success rate, but any infrastructure around her when she takes the kaiju down pays the price.

maine’s ai goes rogue, infects him, and he ends up destroying half a city with his jaeger before they manage to take him down

carolina has a breakdown, the stress of having an experimental two ai implanted in her head too much when they begin fighting with one another. she gets pulled from the program, has to have them removed, is bitter about it forever afterwards.

washington’s ai is unstable and self-destructs in the middle of a fight and washington’s left to continue it solo, alone in the jaeger. he barely makes it back to the shatterdome before his mind shuts down under the strain of it.

the unanimous decision is made that the program needs to stop, the ai need to be recalled
