U-boats were surrendered by Germany in 1918 but were too difficult to tow so were scrapped off the coast. These incredible images show the World War One vessels wrecked on the shore at Falmouth, in Cornwall, in 1921.

This Day In Wrecks
February 25, 1964: Minutes after takeoff, Eastern Airlines Flight 304, flying from New Orleans to Atlanta, loses altitude and crashes into Lake Pontchartrain. Whether due to breakup in the air or impact with the lake, and also owing to the heavy silt, only 60% of the wreckage is found; the FDR is unreadable. Evidence points to a faulty pitch trim compensator, which the pilots tried to correct for, subsequently losing control of the aircraft and causing an upset they could not recover from. All 58 people on board are killed.

Aerosucre Flight 4544 - Puerto Carreño, Columbia - 12/20/2016 - 5 fatalities, 1 survivor.
The cargo flight bound for Bogota overran the runway, tore through a perimeter fence and a roadway, hit a small building and a tree, became airborne, and then crashed a few minutes later. The right main gear and inboard flaps had been separated from the 727. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
[There are videos not only of the crash but of similar close takeoffs (think Princess Juliana takeoffs.) I’m completely amazed that none of the bystanders were killed in this crash! In addition to loss of life, it’s always sad to see a 727 go, one of my favorite types. Videos will be posted today as well.]
