Slay the Princess is basically just a huge game of Fuck Marry Kill but the guy asking REALLY wants you to pick kill.

I'd like to point out that, in The Wild, if you have the Stubborn with you (Which you can get during The Witch if you try to fight her openly in the cabin), THE STUBBORN, and I can't stress this enough, THE STUBBORN, the voice who will relish at the thought of eternal mutually assured destruction with the Adversary, who will call the Razor, responsible for your countless deaths, the perfect woman, who will rejoice at the thought of slaying a god...

Will say "No, fuck this, no hatred, push that fucking thought down, don't listen to these idiots, your willpower is stronger than this, our union won't be destroyed by a traitorous thought."

THE STUBBORN.

The Opportunist and the Hero? They will listen to the siren song of the traitorous thought of you being Two, of being separate, not the same, of hatred, mutual hatred, keeping you apart, they will be goaded by the narrator to listen to it, but the FUCKING STUBBORN.

Again, the "I'd die a thousand deaths just so we could kill each other one thousand and one more" guy, will see that same traitorous thought, planted and encouraged by the narrator, trying to lead you back to, again, mutual hatred and conflict and violence, and he will PUT. HIS FOOT. DOWN.

THE STUBBORN.

I am sorry this is so wild to me like... He really is one of the voices who loves her the most isn't he?

So much so that, once removed from the eternal conflict forms of the princesses involving him usually crave... He just wants to be with her, one, united...

And has enough willpower to demand you to stay as one.

Because it was never about the fighting or the challenge for him, his very being was, ultimately, shaped by his desire to be with her, and once removed from that cycle of violence, he's perfectly content to just- exist, with her, forever.

This is a Love Story indeed.

I like how the twist in Slay the Princess isn't that the princess is some kind of ever shifting reality bending eldritch horror. That much was obvious to everyone and their mother even before the game came out. so the game doesn't even try to play its cards close to its chest.

the twist that the game slowly builds to is that you are also an ever shifting reality bending eldritch horror. That all of of your presumed limits are self imposed, and have been the entire time.

The princess changes and becomes as powerful as you believe her to be, but the same thing is true for you as well. the game is about the princess finding the pieces of herself, to learn who she is. meanwhile you are slowly learning WHAT you are, and once both of you fully know who and what you are you become fully fledged gods

You only die because you believe the narrator when he says you do, and as soon as you decide to not be dead, you suddenly cannot die because you've stopped believing in that limit.

You can only starve if you believe you need to eat.

As soon as you decide to stop playing around with the razor you summon the long quiet and easily trounce her.

As soon as you have the thought that the narrator isnt as strong as he pretends to be. that maybe he doesnt have final say in things. he loses any and all ability to control you or the construct.

This game has some absolutely gorgeous art, but one of my favorites is just the princess looking like an annoyed bean. She’s so cute I really hope nothing bad happens to her.

Thank you all so much for supporting our work and helping Slay the Princess reach a level of success that gives our studio the freedom to make our games completely on our own terms and the way we want to make them moving forward!

We're extremely proud of what we've made with Slay the Princess, but now that the dust from launch has started to settle, we think we can make it even better. So we'd like to announce The Pristine Cut edition, releasing next year (date TBD). We don't want to give away too many details just yet, but you can expect:

Several new chapters.

Significant expansions to several chapters already in the game.

And more to be revealed at a later date!
