sora didn’t think her footsteps were that quiet, though of course the sound her sneakers made on the floor was very light compared to other shoes. not to mention even then her movements were often softer and less deliberate sounding that others. next time she would try and ensure that she didn’t scare him or anyone else for that matter because she didn’t want to be the reason that someone had a sudden heart attack or stroke. also with it being late at night it made more sense that he was on high alert rather than being entirely relaxed. “ well i guess that means you can skip your next appointment at that heart doctor because i made sure of it. i’m not a doctor but i’m certain it’s working perfectly now. ” sora gave a small chuckle in response as he hoped it helped to calm down his especially high heart rate now. she nodded when she could catch his eye, hoping he understood that she wasn’t going to judge him for falling on his ass in front of her. “ i’ll keep it my little secret…. unless, an opportunity arises where i can use it as juicy blackmail to get something that i want. ” she smiled showing that she was just joking around and brought a finger up to her lips in gesture that meant she would keep his secret.

she figured that everyone else was probably asleep at this hour and that they should be asleep too but like him she was too wired to do so. sora doubted that anyone else would show up and so they had the small studio to themselves. at least her morning wouldn’t be as early his probably would especially due to adding a comeback to their already busy schedules. “ still i gave you quite the fright, so i apologize for at least that part. normally you wouldn’t have even bumped into me, but sleep isn’t coming tonight. ” sora shrugged as if it were a simple and normal thing. “ i was hoping to get into a little practice, even though we perform the same songs, i still feel my dancing isn’t as strong as others in my group. ” sora smiled when he mentioned what they used to do when they were kids, “ except this time we can say we’re hiding from our managers intead of our parents. ”

chanwoo let out a small laugh and simply nodded his head as his hand continued to rest over his heart  .  it was definitely doing what it was meant to do  .  which was always a good sign considering the strenuous lifestyle he led and put his body though  .  ❝  i’ll make sure i let everyone know that if they’re concerned about the condition of their hearts  --  you’re the one to go see  .  ❞  when he met her eye he made sure to turn his lips up into a smile to let her know there were no hard feelings  .  it could have been anyone  .  he’d been so much in his own little world that if he’d caught his own shadow unexpectedly he’d have probably had the same reaction  .  but also he trusted her not to let the world know  .  she had probably way worse that she could share about him anyway from his pre-teen days  .  ❝  hey that’s not very nice  .  but first of all what would i ever have that you want  ?  second of all  ,  if you want to blackmail me i’m sure i can dig up some old photo’s and blackmail you right back  .  ❞  chanwoo couldn’t help but petulantly and teasingly stick his tongue out at her  .  he was certain he’d never hear of it again after tonight  .

❝  i know the feeling  .  ❞ chanwoo frowned sympathetically  .  sleep wasn’t something he ever got a whole lot of  .  it wasn’t something he considered a good use of his time  .  he always got just enough to function and spent the rest of his waking hours working  ,  practicing   ,  and doing everything he could to prove himself and live up to all the pedestals he’d been put on over the years  .  ❝  well  ,  if you want it  -- i can help you  .  with dance that is  .  since you know  ,  it’s kind of my specialty  .  ❞  he shrugged his shoulders as he offered up his help  .  or whatever support he could provide considering flora’s style was different from his own style  .  it wasn’t like it would be the first time  .  ❝  i think our managers are scarier than our parents ever were  .  i think i would much prefer to get told off by my appa  ,  all he ever did was make me go greet the other adults  .  if i got caught by my manager  --  i don’t even want to think about what might happen  .  ❞  he shuddered  .  though  ,  the thought didn’t stop him from wanting to be there and keep working  .  it wasn’t quite scary enough to actually push him to go up to bed  .  ❝  luckily for us  ,  i think the rest of the country is asleep  .  ❞

     jinnie hadn’t meant to startle chanwoo. he was just such a compelling dancer, it was easy to get lost in the movements and forget to announce her presence. she actually felt bad that she’d scared him so badly. that much was obvious from her wide, apologetic gaze, nearly jumping out of her own skin when her friend screamed. her hand flew over her chest where her heart was beating rapidly, lips curling into a thoughtful frown. “ i’m sorry ! ” the blonde squeaked out, lifting her free hand as a show of a peace offering. it was definitely going to take both of them a second to calm themselves after such a fright. “ are you okay ? ” immediately, the young rapper ventured further into the studio, keeping her hand outstretched in case he wanted to take it to hoist himself back up.

     “ i just got here. you weren’t answering your texts and find my friends told me you’d be here. ” she explained with a pout, hoping it would be endearing enough to make chanwoo forgive her. “ it’s late, channie-ah. what are you still doing up ? ” to be fair, it was a bit hypocritical for her to ask when she was also awake — but jinnie was a bit of an insomniac herself. too much rest made her mind wander in all the wrong places.

                    it took a moment for chanwoo to calm his racing heart and glance up to meet jinnie’s eyes  .  he was mortified by how scared he’d been by her unexpected appearance  .  it wasn’t like him to lose his composure and he was glad that it was just the two of them  ,  not another person in sight  .  he didn’t mind looking like a fool in front of her  .  though it didn’t stop him from taking a quick look around just to be certain before he finally accepted her offered hand and got back on his feet  .  ❝  i’m not hurt  ,  if that’s what you mean by okay  .  ❞  he responded  ,  shaking out his limbs as if to prove his point  .  ❝  but if you tell anyone what you just saw  --  i will get my revenge  .  because physically i’m perfectly fine but if anyone found out i just screamed like i was in a horror movie i would never hear the end of it  .  i mean it  .  ❞  despite his words he couldn’t help but laugh lightly  ,  still shaking off the embarrassment  .

                    once he managed to fully right himself  ,  he slipped his headphones into his pockets and shrugged his shoulders  .  ❝  oh right  --  my phone’s on silent  ,  has been since my schedule earlier  .  ❞  he offered her an apologetic smile as he picked up his phone to see the unanswered texts in question  .  though he was grateful to have a friend who cared to come find him when he didn’t answer  .  even in the middle of the night  .  ❝  well  ,  i was rehearsing  -- it’s been so busy lately i haven’t had time to work on some skills  .  but you know  ,  i could ask you the same thing  .  what brings you down here at this time  ?  shouldn’t you be sleeping  ?  or did you just miss me so much you couldn’t go a second longer without my company  ?  ❞

there were just some nights that sora felt that she couldn’t sleep. it wasn’t often thankfully, but tonight seemed to be one of those rare moments. she wasn’t really sure what was keeping her up tonight, maybe it had been some leftover energy from last night’s concert. she couldn’t be sure and so like any normal person would do, she needed to find some way to get her energy out and hopefully make herself tired enough to be able to sleep. at least without the help of melatonin or some sleep pills. sora didn’t want to resort to having to take them every time she couldn’t sleep. maybe heading down to one of the little studio rooms the hotel had would be a good idea especially since she wasn’t always so certain about her own dance skills.

after slipping on some sneakers with a t-shirt with some joggers, she had decided to head down to the one of aforementioned rooms. it was pretty late at night and she hadn’t expected anyone else to be down there. usually one would hear music from the room that someone was practicing in and as she neared it she didn’t hear any tale tales signs of someone practicing. so sora didn’t think much when she pushed open the door and stepped inside and her eyes fell upon chanwoo dancing to seemingly nothing. he turned during a move and the scream he let out surprised her as he fell to the ground. “ oh my god, are you okay ? ” she hadn’t meant to surprise him like that. “ i’m sorry, i just got here, like barely a few seconds ago. i didn’t think anyone would be up right now. ”

his heart was still racing as he got back on his feet  .  maybe he’d watched too many horror movies lately  .  he didn’t do well with the genre but he also didn’t like to be left out so he suffered through them more often than he’d like  .  it was coming back to torment him now because of course his initial thoughts had been he was either going to be chased around with a chainsaw or there was a ghost there to haunt him  .  ❝  i’m okay  ,   perfectly fine  .  i didn’t know  my heart could beat this fast or hard but good to know it’s in good working condition  .  i can feel it thumping nice and strong  .  ❞   chanwoo shook his head trying to shake off the shock and embarrassment of his reaction  .  it was hard to meet sora’s eye after she’d just seen him fall flat on his ass  .  then again  ,  it definitely could have been so much worse  .  ❝  but i do hope that you won’t tell anyone what you just saw  .  i like to think i’ve got a pretty cool reputation and i’d never hear the end of it if people found out that i’m just a little bit of a scaredy cat  .  ❞

chanwoo cast a quick glance at the clock  ,  it was a fair assumption that no one else would be up right now  .  he’d also assumed that he’d be the only one awake and wanting to use the space  .  thus making a fool of himself  .  though  ,  he definitely should have been tucked up into bed with the busy schedule and how early he’d be woken up in the morning  .  ❝  you don’t have to apologize  ,  it’s a public space i just wasn’t expecting anyone  --  like you said i didn’t think anyone else was up  .  i don’t usually bump into anyone else at this time  .  ❞  chanwoo winced as he clearly stated the obvious  .  he scratched the back of his neck taking a quick glance around the room  .  ❝  were you here to practice  ?  i can share the space  --  i think the studio is big enough for the both of us  .  it’ll be kind of like when we were kids hiding out at dinner parties  .  ❞

STATUS  :  OPEN  . LOCATION  :  PRACTICE ROOM  .

a new comeback promotion schedule meant that the only time chanwoo had to practice  --  to perfect his already flawless performance  --  were in the wee hours of the night  .  he didn’t mind though  ,  not really  .  the calmness of the building and feeling of being completely alone allowed him to let loose in a way he couldn’t during work hours  .  there was no one here to judge him if he made a mistake or anyone to be compared too  .  he could simply let his body follow the music  .  he could work on his facials in the mirror and if he looked ugly it was only his own face looking back at him  .  he did some of his most intense training on nights like these  .  it wasn’t like he’d get much sleep anyway  ,  he never did during comebacks  .  he had too much pent up energy  .

however  ,  being in the studio alone at night also meant that any noise or eerie feeling  ,  well  ,  it scared him  .  his solution always had been and always would be to play his music really loud through his headphones and tune out the rest of the world  .  only it backfired because he of course wasn’t able to hear anyone else enter the practice room  .  causing a high pitched scream to leave his lips and to fall flat on his ass in terror when he turned to see someone there unexpectedly  .  it all happened in a matter of seconds  .  though  ,  after the initial shock wore off  ,  chanwoo pulled out the earbuds and placed his hand over his heart as if it would help calm it’s rapid pace  .  ❝  how long have you been there ?  ❞  he panted  ,  straightening himself back out but not getting up from his position now on the floor  .  ❝  you shouldn’t sneak up on people like that  .  make some noise when you enter a room or something  .  ❞

chanwoo was born into a wealthy family one snowy winter night and from the moment he took his first breath his parents decided he was destined for greatness  .  chanwoo was going to be their shining star  .  he was going to be the son they would brag about to all their friends and family  .  he just had to be after they’d spent so long listening to others at their gatherings brag about how their children were so successful for years  .  so  ,  upon his first words he was put into acting lessons and his first steps meant he was enrolled in dance  .  he attended elite programs and was training before he was old enough to audition for an agency  .  luckily for his parents  ,  he was good at it all  ,  a true natural talent  .

while other kids his age were figuring themselves out  ,  attending school  ,  trying different sports and activities and deciding on their futures  --  chanwoo’s was mapped out for him  .  he watched his brother (  rather enviously )   hang out with his friends on weekends  ,   play soccer and then quit  ,  play basketball and quit  ,  take up fencing for a period of two weeks before changing his mind  .  it made chanwoo wonder what it must be like to be able to explore all the world had to offer  .  it was a point of tension between the brothers  ,  minwoo’s ability to be whomever he wished to be and chanwoo’s position as star child with all the attention  .  they just couldn’t understand one another and could therefore never get along  .

fortunately for their parents  ,  they didn’t have long to deal with the sibling rivalry as at the age of eleven chanwoo passed his audition and almost immediately moved into the trainee dorms  .  it was a bit of a culture shock for the preteen  --  going from a grand  ,  though quiet house with just his immediate family to the dorms with loads of other boys and minimal space  .  it was also challenging for the young boy in other ways  .  despite his likeable and easily charming personality  ,  in the environment where everyone is your competition it was hard for him to make friends  .  the kids his own age envied the experience and training he had that went beyond his years  ,  the work that put him one step ahead of the rest  .  those older than him assumed him to be a bratty rich kid who was here because his parents bought his way in  .  all of it just made chanwoo want to work harder  ,  to be the best based on his talent and prove them all wrong  .

he did what he had to do to be at the top of the rankings  ,  he spent hours of his own time in the studio perfecting his basics in dance  ,  he sought feedback on how to make his vocals stronger  ,  how to improve his stage presence and how to enunciate more clearly when he rapped ( though that was his one weakness )  .  the hard work paid off in the end  ,  at the age of fourteen chanwoo was set to make his debut as the maknae in a new ten member group  .  in training together  ,  he also finally found a place he belonged  , these boys no longer saw him as their competition and so they treated him as they would a younger brother  .  he had friends  ,  he had members and a team  .

that was until he was in the studio one day recording his bits for their debut and his world was flipped upside down  .  his manager came in and told him that he needed to go home  ,  there was a car waiting for him outside  .  of course chanwoo didn’t ask questions  ,  he did as his manager told him  .  when he arrived his mother was crying  ,  holding him tight and saying she was never going to let her baby out of her sight again  .  his dad was silent  .  he was told there’d been an accident  .  it took hours for him to gather the details  ,  minwoo had been in a fatal accident that morning while on his way to university  .  chanwoo didn’t believe it at first  .  it couldn’t be  --  he hadn’t even properly gotten the chance to make things right with his elder brother  .  he couldn’t just be gone  .

in the aftermath of tragedy  ,  chanwoo pulled out of the debut lineup and they would go on without him as a nine member group  .  he stopped training all together and moved back home  .  he took care of his mother and tried to keep his family together  .  he spent time trying to understand his brother and feel closer to him in the ways he could  ,  regretting that he’d never gotten that chance  .  chanwoo tried different activities  ,  he was terrible at all of them  .  he attended high school regularly and made friends who weren’t potential idols  .  he realized how little he knew about the world  .  his whole life had been training for stardom but there was so much more out there  .

but as time went on  ,  chanwoo grew restless  .  he missed the long  ,  gruelling days of training  .  he missed the routine  .  most of all he found that he missed dancing  .  he may not have originally chosen it for himself but he’d fallen in love with it  .  now that he’d taken a step back he realized that he didn’t know anything else but he also didn’t want to know anything else  .  he wanted to be an idol  ,  he wanted to perform  .  

it took some convincing  ,  but eventually with his mother’s approval he went back to training after a two year hiatus  .  of course  ,  he fallen behind and had to put in extra hours and people whispered about his fall from the top  .  but chanwoo felt he was back where he was meant to be  .  he finally knew this was what he wanted for himself and worked harder than ever  .  if he thought he’d been motivated before by the whispers about his favouritism  ,  he was even more motivated now by his own desire  .

chanwoo was always meant to be a star and it wasn’t even a full year after his return to being a trainee that he was put into the lineup for phoenix  .  this time he wasn’t going to let anything get in his way  .  he succeeded in that goal  ,  he made his debut as the main dancer and has loved every moment of living out his dream with his members  .  

part of chanwoo’s charm within the group is that despite his two year hiatus from the industry  ,  it’s still all he really knows  .  he’s pretty clueless to how the real world works and can always be counted on for a bit of a laugh when it comes to simple everyday tasks  .
