Hey guys! Just a note here.

We’ve been getting a lot of asks about some other blogs that have popped up about DA species other than wyngro. We’ve chosen not to post these for two reasons:

1. The ask isn’t about wyngro, our whole point of existence.

2. We don’t want to drive attention to these blogs. In our opinion, the blogs we’ve seen are mostly just nasty and drama filled and made only to hurt people. We feel guilty enough that we’ve likely inspired them, we don’t want to contribute to the problem by showing all of our followers these icky blogs. It’ll just introduce a bunch of people to them and give them more traction. So please don’t seek them out.

Also, we only run this blog and FSWnews. No other blog is run by us. Even ones borrowing our FreeSpeech gimmick. If our team were to run another blog, we’d put some kind of announcement here and we’d follow the same strict guidelines we have here (no calling out specific people, no making fun of art, no insults, etc) unlike the other blogs we’ve seen.

The anons we’ve had have been equally disappointed in these new blogs! Which I’m proud of. But I wanted to offer an explanation to you all about why I keep deleting those asks instead of posting. I hope this makes sense :).

Firstly, thank you for the well wishes everyone. I feel much better now.

We are now accepting longform essays/statements regarding the closure of Wyngro. Statements may be submitted via discord, tumblr (if you can figure that out!) and even DA if you let me know that you’ve messaged the DA account.

All statements will be posted to a google doc in a similar manner of the staff testimonies document we made a few months ago. This is the option that beat all others on the recent poll we conducted.

The purpose of these essays is to allow our readers to express their feelings and final thoughts about wyngro and wyngro’s closure. Anything wyngro related. We’ll allow names. It may be anon or not anon. Initially we were going to do this and then close the blog— but considering the fact that there is still activity in wyngro we’ve elected to keep this blog open until activity ceases. However, we’d still like to offer this essay option for those who were excited about it and want to close this chapter of their lives. We’ll be accepting essays/statements until activity in wyngro has slowed enough to close the blog. We’ll give a 2 week warning prior to this. Thank you!

Tl;dr: send us any statements you’d like and we’ll post it in a google doc. We won’t close the blog for the foreseeable future.

We’re including the name of this wonderful artist but do /NOT/ harass them or “”warn”” them about wyngro. Leave them be, unless you wish to commission them for your own personal reasons!

For those unaware, it has been announced that wyngro is shutting down. Tldr at the bottom.

We as blog mods didn’t set out to cause this and we didn’t want this to happen. At some point or another each of us on the mod team loved wyngro and just wanted things to be better, which is why FSW was created -- a safe space for discussing and critiquing something we all loved. We all have a lot of mixed feelings about the sudden closure. However, we hope that the wyngro owner is able to move on and grow as an artist and as a person. We hope she is able to forge a new place in the world and live happily with her family.

Regarding our blog–

We’ve looked over those survey results from a few weeks ago. We’ve reached the conclusion that we will allow longer essay-format posts to be submitted either in an ask or from discord. We will post these on the blog, not a google doc. We will also be more relaxed about our rules.

However, these changes will occur in a week. At this moment we are not accepting long-form essays and our rules are not going to budge. Emotions are high right now and we’ve already received some quite rude asks (both toward us and the owner of wyngro). We would like everyone to calm down and come to terms with the situation before we move into this next phase, so the blog will run as normal right now.

We’re going to move into phase 2 next week. Business as usual right now.

Annnd there's the reason for the activity check, a special channel. Seems really unnecessary imo. I pushed the I Am Active emoji, so I'm fine for now, but I'm not that active overall. Is the bot going to kick me from that channel if I don't say anything for a week? Ugh

Context:

A little less than a week ago this was posted in #general :

Today there is a channel called #active-members for those who got in. There’s 65 members (including staff) in the channel as of 30 minutes ago.

The owner stated in #general that a bot detects activity and then automatically give you the role within 24 hours. It is unclear what constitutes “activity”. It is also unclear how long a user can be inactive before the role is automatically removed, if it does that.
