i find it so interesting how people act like "critically examining a piece of media" is the opposite of "enjoying that piece of media." rip to you but i actually find it really enjoyable and compelling to dissect and think through the art i engage with

I need people to understand that when I describe something as “silly” that is a term of affection. A form of praise. A signal of love. A piece of media being silly is one of my favourite things. It warms the cold recesses of my heart. So when I say The Heart Killers is supremely silly, that is said with unbridled joy.

It is so very silly. I’m here for it.

Jack was always going to come back to Joke. He was always going to go back home for Joke.

It's his turn to apologize (for his anger, for not listening to an explanation -- not that Joke was ready to offer one, because he was too busy blaming himself), and to chase after Joke a little. To fight for them.

Now, because of the world they live in, it's a little more of a literal chase and fight than anticipated. But they built a home together, they made a life and a family, and that means the world to both of them.

Jack is terrified. Joke has been taken, and he hasn't gotten to fix it, and he's so scared. And you know what else is there? Regret.

Determination.

He's going to get his man back.

(in the preview for 12, he says "don't touch my boyfriend", because that's who joke still is; he did not cut joke off forever, it was a reaction to trauma and he was never going to let them stay apart.)

I’m getting Wandee Goodday flashbacks where Tumblr was getting really mad at it and I guess their criticisms had some validity but I was so in tune with that show that it genuinely could do no wrong in my eyes and I was surprised to see people turning on it. That’s how I feel about this one. Think I’m gonna stop searching the hashtags and just live in a beautiful bubble of pure love for this show. I’ve loved every second so far, even when it hurts, and all the actors & characters. I’ve bought in completely and am willing to go wherever it takes me.

Has anything actually gotten better, for all the work you talk about doing? Or is it just treading water in misery forever?

Anon, ten years ago gay people couldn't get married in large parts of the US. AIDS was an almost certain death sentence when I was in high school. I was looking at job boards the other day and found a part time gas station job that had health insurance as a benefit, which NEVER would have happened 15 years ago. When I was a kid, hitting your child was extremely normalized in the US and my parents were the weird ones for not doing it. There is a vaccine for chicken pox. I didn't meet anyone who had transitioned until my 20s because it was so uncommon to transition in the aughts, and now there are some states that protect your right to have gender affirming care provided by your health insurance. It's not all states, but it's better than the number of states that had it in 2010, which was zero. THERE ARE TENANTS UNIONS NOW. WE HAVE A VACCINE AGAINST CERVICAL CANCER.

And all of that has been the work of a lot of individuals and organizations and research teams and activists.
