i think my all-time favorite character introduction of any book will always be jarlaxle’s, mostly because when i started reading these books i had no idea what to expect and hadn’t had any exposure to the LOD fandom yet in any capacity. i started exile immediately after finishing homeland and was still emotional about zak and all swept up in the dark cruel world of menzoberranzan and the hopelessness of its men and then in walks captain crunchberries i mean i read this paragraph twice in a row like did u just say the scary bounty hunter rogue guy that everyones anxious about fucking sashayed into the mean goth spider bitch mansion wearing a sparkly rainbow cape and crop top what do you mean the eye patch is ornamental

I always thought that under certain lighting (magical?) drow could have patterns on their faces and clothes. In that case, even Kimmuriel sometimes looks like someone who got a unicorn to vomit rainbows on them. Jarlaxle looks normal. Like a man who stole clothes from a burlesque theater and wore whatever he could get his hands on.
