who whispers falsehoods in your ear
disguised as shining words
it is the villain who gossips and fans the flames
and spreads untruth like fire though the brush,
the concocted embers licking at the stalwart foundations of the house of truth,
their duplicitous tongues finding every point of weakness
and sliding between the cracks like assassins blades,
thin as reeds and sharp as needles,
sliding smoothly between the ribs of integrity
and leaving a bloody hole, slowly dripping,
a wound that would not heal
for the poisoned tip,
but bleed and bleed into the pail of deceit
until the scales of merit hold, balanced, both truth and lies,
both of equal weight and worth,
and facts are born and die
in the mouths of all who claimed them
this is the demon of deceit,
the power hungry beast, born of greed,
thoughtless and aimless, but ravenous,
and turned loose upon the world
to do what it will
to the folly of all mankind
