Read the entirety of this post before you overreact. This is not hate, but fucking history.
Crazy, eh? Yes. Time magazine made the Austrian their Man of the Year 1938.
Before anyone clutches their pearls, note that many people have been Man of the Year that you wouldn't think could/should be. Even Vladimir Putin was. It is no longer called Man of the Year, by the way. It is Person of the Year.
"Time Magazine’s designation of Adolf Hitler as “Man of the Year” for 1938 identified Hitler as “the newsmaker who most influenced world events for better or worse” and was not an endorsement, the magazine has repeatedly clarified." - Reuters

What was the last Christmas of the Goebbels family like?
Despite the hopeless situation, the Goebbels family celebrated Christmas in 1944 as they had in all the years before. Joseph found himself in the intimate family circle with Magda, children, and sister Marie at Bogensee. There was a Christmas tree, and Magda was said to have played Santa Claus, distributing small presents to the children. A meter-high Christmas tree in the large hall of the house at Bogensee was magnificently decorated with real white candles, tinsel, gold and silver balls, and stars. It must have been the saddest holiday in the Goebbels' lives. Joseph and Magda were acutely aware that the war was lost. Joseph's feeling of despair visibly surfaced when his daughter Hedda recited a poem. He could not hide his emotional outburst: the children recited little poems, and Hedda spoke in a very squeaky voice:
‚Licht muss wieder werden, nach diesen dunklen Tagen, lasst uns nicht fragen, ob wir es sehen, auferstehen wird ein neues Licht. ‘
The father was in tears. I assume that this poem was suggested by the older teacher, Mrs. Schrter, who cared for the little children. But the older children also contributed. It was a very familial, loving atmosphere, with a Christmas tree and everything. They were all in the big hall, singing songs. Magda played the piano. However, the most impressive poem was Hedda's, delivered in her squeaky voice. Joseph listened and was genuinely touched. Afterwards, the whole company listened to Joseph's Christmas speech, which had been recorded in advance and was now broadcast on the radio. But the courage this was meant to instill in the German people reached only a few. Even Magda no longer believed in a happy ending. It is said that she told her secretary on Christmas Eve that there would probably be peace next year—a profound remark, as she believed they would all find peace in death.
