❝ hm? tori’s console? ❞ the skeleton wondered how often his goat friend had been using it– that snail farming game really was a hit. or so he’s heard. ❝ yeah, i’m the one that gave it to her. been wantin’ to get tori into video gaming for a while now. papyrus knows all about those puzzle games, but i thought something a bit less intense would do her well. you, uh, been playin’ it too? ❞

the game was a cross-breed between harvest moon and stardew valley– but with snails. a simpler take on both games, indie for the most part, that the skeleton believed to have a nice introductory style to those who were new to the gaming scene.

❛Yes, mom's console!❜ The human child answered, tilting their head a bit to the side. A soft smile plastered across their face as they nodded. ❛I've been playing it too! It's a lot of fun! Sometimes, I watch mom play the game. She also lets me play it too as well!❜ They signed happily.

Frisk seemed to notice the petting zoo, reaching a hand out to grab a hold of the other’s sleeve and their other hand pointing at the petting zoo. They seemed to want to visit the petting zoo as they signed, ❛Pleeeassee?❜

Interesting. Grillby had walked through the actual city zoo before, a big, sprawling complex with animals from all over the world. Humans, removing wild beasts from their natural habitats and caging them for their own entertainment? There was nothing more distinctly human than that, as far as Grillby was concerned.

This seemed like a much smaller affair. Mostly domesticated animals–goats and horses and cows and such. It seemed quite popular with children, and indeed there were several running about inside the fence, giddy with delight as they pet and played with the creatures within. And he was not going to smile, he most certainly did not find the sight adorable. 

Frisk tugged at his sleeve, and he glanced down, then back up at the ticket booth. 

… Well, he certainly wasn’t about to tell the kid no.

‘Alright then,’ he said, reaching for his wallet. ‘But only for a little while.’ 

Frisk gasped brightly out of excitement, pumping a hand up in the air and giving an acknowledging nod. They can't wait to go to a petting zoo as they jumped up and down out of excitement, smiling cheek to cheek.

“THAT IS COOL HUMAN! NOT AS COOL AS I AM OF COURSE, BUT STILL COOL ALL THE SAME. KNOW WHAT WOULD BE EVEN COOLER? IF WE FOUND MORE OF THEM”

Frisk beamed brightly, seeming excited to go search for more seashells and giving a quick nod. They'd wanted to find more seashells as they signed with a free hand, ❛Let's go find more seashells!❜ They seemed really happy to be spending time with Papyrus.

Ah, Grillby hadn’t wanted to worry the child. He smiled, waving the remark off with a dismissive gesture. 

‘O-oh, no, it’s really not so bad. A bit new, certainly, but better that we’re here than back Underground.’ Rationally, even with the difficulties monsters had acclimating to human society, Grillby knew that to be true. And he didn’t want Frisk to doubt all that they had done for their people. ‘Change always takes time to adjust to. We’ll be fine.’ 

Frisk tilted their head a bit, giving a small nod. If the other didn't want them to worry, they wouldn't worry as much but it's their job to worry. They'd have to worry as they signed, ❛Okay.❜ A soft smile plastered across their face.

oh! his favorite human! singular LED eye turned into a heart, giving away his emotion as he bent down to gently scoop the child up and stand himself, placing them upon his hip.

‘ Quite a lot my dear, people up here are so accepting for a robotic superstar, something named … Miku? Was popular years ago, so they’re thinking I’m similar to that but real! ’

‘ what about you? enjoying your time with our former queen? do know i’ll drop everything for you at any time!! ’

Frisk didn't mind being scooped up and being put on the other's lap, listening to Mettaton talk about Miku. They've heard of Miku as they beamed brightly, signing. ❛I'm actually having a lot of fun with Mom!❜ They seemed touched by the other's offer of dropping everything for them. ❛Aw, thank you, Mettaton! I was hoping to spend some time with you and get to know you more!❜

            the words signed at him and the kid’s stubbornness did nothing but make Sans let out a low chuckle of amusement. the kid had spunk, he’d give them that much. wouldn’t change the fact that he wasn’t letting Frisk get out of bed. not if he could help it.             Frisk needed rest and he was gonna make sure Frisk got it. no matter what sneaky tricks he’d have to pull.

            『 ❝ uh-huh, sure ya will, kiddo. got m’bones shakin’ in my slippers. ❞ 』 he snickered, grinning down at the other and bringing a hand down onto the top of their head, patting their hair affectionately.             『 ❝ you can try an’ fight me from the blankets all ya want. but you ain’t movin’ ❞ 』

Frisk didn't want to rest, their eyes narrowing stubbornly at the other. They folded their arms out of spite, frowning softly. ❛I don't want to rest. I'm not tired!❜ They signed, insisting firmly with the expressions in their hands and face. They seemed rather stubborn and a bit tired.

It wasn’t that he wasn’t glad they were here. Of course he was. There was no way for monsterkind to thrive under that mountain. And yet… 

‘… I actually was up here before the exile. Fought in the War, in fact. It’s, ah… certainly different, from how I remember. I think it’s just taking some getting used to.’ 

❛...I see. I understand that the surface will be take getting used to but you'd let me know if anything or anybody bothers you. I don't want any bad things happening to you and the others.❜ Frisk's eyes filled with concern and understanding, they wondered if the surface is a lot for a lot of monsters to process. It takes a lot to take in everything.
