20/05/2019 - Fight Scene Version 2
youtube
This is the finished fight scene version 2, I want to re-film this as I didn’t get the camera angles that I wanted, and some of the cuts aren’t as smooth as I wanted to get them. I did color grade this video so the colors would pop out more and also gave it a bit of a darker look in a way.

20/05/2019 - Fight Scene (NO AUDIO)
youtube
This is the fight scene that I filmed and this one was supposed to be for my FMP, but there was no audio to the clips for some reason that I don’t know, however I still edited it together and some of the scenes look alright, however some of the cuts look forced and don’t transition smoothly.

14/05/2019 - Fight Scene FMP Storyboard
Today I finished my storyboard. It just tells the overall story of my FMP and there is a bit where I couldn’t draw the actual fight scene so I wrote what was going to happen.

13/05/2019 - Lighting and New Camera Canon XF300
today I helped a friend with his FMP, we used the Canon XF300 which is a video camera that is really good and is normally only used for higher grade students. We used the camera to film two shots and also setup some lights to make sure there was no shadow for the green screen and it made the shots nice and clean.

30/04/2019 - Helping Owen Do His FMP.
Today I helped Owen film his FMP and we used the green screen which I haven’t used before, we put it up and also lit it up to make sure there wasn’t any shadows. We also used the marants to capture the dialogue for the actors. This is quite a useful experience for me because I can get a hands on experience on how to use the marants as I am definitely going to use the marants for filming my FMP. I might also use the green screen in this FMP for something however I don’t know if I will.

29/04/2019 - Testing Equipment
Today we helped Rickesh with his FMP shots this has helped me get some good use of the glide rail and also the c100 camera. This is a useful to do because I can now use the glide rail and c100 for my FMP if I decide to.

WHAT WAS GOOD
I filmed another fight scene, I decided to do another one because I think that it’s the best way to better my skills of camera work, editing and just general filming techniques. The plan for this was to just film a fight scene, there’s no overall narrative for it.
The first new feature of this video is black bars to make the fight seem more cinematic and engaging for the viewer. This makes the fight scene more enjoyable overall and gives the video a more professional look.
The second new feature in this video is the dramatic music in the video to again make the fight scene more engaging. The volume of the music also changes throughout the scene, I.E. when the characters are talking the music will lower so you can hear the dialogue between the two, and then when they go back to fighting the music volume will increase to make the fight intense.
Another thing different with this video to the other is that I left a good second or two before ending the shot as it allowed more flexibility for editing so it didn’t look like it cut too fast, Compared to the other videos this one looks more smooth and natural.
WHAT I NEED TO IMPROVE
I do still need to improve the audio in a way, where in the clips I laugh, but that is an easy thing to fix as I will have more than an afternoon to film the video so I will be able to spend more time shooting the video.
I could also improve the video by adding editing techniques that will make the characters look hurt I.E. Black eyes, wounds or Bruising. This would make the video more engaging and also make the viewers more worried for the characters.
WHAT I LEARNED FROM THIS
I learned that adding music and black bars to the video will make the video more engaging to the audience, and is quite a useful technique.
Another thing I learned that it is a good idea to leave a few seconds for starting and ending the shot to make it a more natural and smooth shot for editing.

02/04/2019 - Fight Storyboard Scene
I didn’t finish the whole fight scene as I can’t draw very well so I am going to continue the fight in a script as it will be easier than drawing it.

31/03/2019 - Fight Scene Mock Up 2 “Operation: Putin”
youtube
I decided to do another fight scene, after the other one was okay for a first attempt, but obviously could have been improved. So the plan with this fight is that Sam is a Police Officer interviewing a Russian Hitman played by Deimo.
The first thing I improved from the last video is that the footage in general has a higher quality picture. The video quality doesn’t look as dark as before which made the last video very grainy and pix-elated, whereas this one looks nice and clean.
The second thing I improved on is that in the last video where I had to cut out noise there would be dead air as there was a hissing sound in the background so where I would cut sound out it would be very obvious, however when I was editing this I realized I could get a sample of the hissing sound where there was no dialogue and actually just put it into the area where I cut out the sound meaning there would always be a hissing sound and no dead air.
Another thing that I think improved the video was some of the sound effects that were added to the fight. During the fight I added some sounds like punches and other sounds I did this in the first video however the sounds weren’t very high quality and no I’ve managed to find some better sounds.
However I can still improve some things with this video.
For example I could improve in the scene where deimo is getting interviewed, and I laughed because I knew the joke he was going to say, and there was no way of getting rid of the laugh as it would have cut out the sound of dialogue and we couldn’t re-film this because we didn’t have much time.
another thing I could’ve improved was the by actually finishing the fight scene, however we didn’t have enough time to finish the actual fight, however this isn’t a massive problem because when I am doing my FMP I will have more than a few hours to film.
WHAT I LEARNED FROM THIS:
I Think this helped me for my FMP because this gave more camera work experience and now I also know how to get a good quality picture on the camera.
I now also know how to fix dead sound which should be helpful if I need it for my FMP, hopefully I won’t have to.

26/03/2019 - Survey Research Analysis
I created a survey for my fight scene, on what makes a fight scene good, where I asked a few questions.
The first question I asked as "What is your preferred combination of fight scene?" and out of the options I gave the most majority was a mix of between gritty and realistic, and over the top and comical. This is good because this is the type of fight I wanted to do anyway.
The second question I had on my survey was "How long should a fight scene last for?" and the majority voted that a fight scene should last around 60 seconds. This is almost double the time my mock was, however that is not a problem, because I was going to do around 60 seconds to 90 seconds fight scene.
The third question that I asked was "What is your favorite film?" This is just to see what the viewer enjoyed so you could see what types of thing they may want to see. With this there was not a majority film that people agreed upon. This is most likely because I didn't put any options and made the question to where you could write anything in.
The fourth question I asked was "What is your favorite genre of film" and the highest genre was comedy, which is going to be in my film so it should connect with this group.
The last question I asked was "What age group are you?" all of the answers except one was from the 16 - 24 age group. This is useful to know as mostly 16 - 24 year olds will be watching this.

20/03/2019 - Fight Scene Mock Up Finished Video
youtube
This is the finished video of my Fight Scene mock up.
I encountered a problem that I didn’t realize, until I was editing the video. The problem was that the camera footage was too grainy, next time I use a camera I need to make sure the aperture is lower, and also lowering the shutter speed as well as the ISO.
Another problem I had was that the cuts are a bit odd in a way. The problem is that some of the cuts would happen when sound is still going on, so the sound would stop all of sudden. I also had to delete some sound from it, because some of the actions happened a bit early.
However some things did go well with this mock up, a good thing about this fight scene is that the punch was actually never seen which is a good, because obviously the punches don’t connect, so if the camera saw the punch the viewer would see that it didn’t connect so it would be unbelievable as a fight.
