Do you ship it?
reasons: bringing back the 2010 shippers with this one - they flirt with each other throughout the movie, call each other pet names, and are almost always in sync with each other.

everyone say thank you to joseph gordon levitt and tom hardy for imbuing their characters in inception with so much chemistry that it gave the impression of a tangled history of failed romance and repressed love and the desire to reignite the flame between them. and they did it for literally no reason. in 2010

InceptGen 2024 is officially here!
The inception fandom's gen fest runs from September 1 to November 30!
The rules are simple:
You can create any fanwork, as long as a romantic relationship is not the focus of the work. Then tag the InceptGen blog so we can share it with everyone else, too!
And that’s it! Really!
We welcome any and all types of fanworks, as well as rec lists, playlists…you name it! Meta about your most favorite Inception character? Yes please! A sketch of the team all falling asleep on top of each other? Love it!
There are no sign ups required. We just want to spread some love for gen works!
If you post your work(s) to AO3, feel free to add it to the InceptGen Collection!
And lastly, please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions, comments, or concerns. We can’t wait to see what you create! Happy InceptGen!

You think Christopher Nolan deliberately wrote in “Arthur keeps telling me it can’t be done” to imply that Cobb is knowingly tempting Eames with Arthur’s presence/their rivalry? Canon romantic history or not I do think Nolan wanted to establish that Eames is enticed by a challenge and Arthur’s contrarianism is the perfect fuel to get him going. Doesn’t even matter the nature of their relationship I just love that care and time was obviously taken into crafting such a subtle dynamic between two characters who barely even show up together.

whenever I read the screenplay I notice how easily dry this dialogue could’ve been in regards to the character dynamics. Yes there already is implied history written into the script but the wistful drawl with which Tom Hardy says “Arthur?” Gratuitously life-changing. TH and JGL SOLD that ship with their suggestive performances. Don’t even get me started on the ad-libbed “darling” and the hotel room PASIV scene.

Not me overthinking Inception meta again but like…
You know how the aroused little “Hm..Arthur” drawl was one of the first things Eames says in the movie?
Now I could never be privy to Tom Hardy’s creative process, but I bet that he was very much still gauging this Eames character when he reached that point in the first reading of the script, and definitely still puzzling out the dynamics of Eames with Dom and with Arthur.
All this to say, he may have initially read and interpreted that first “Arthur?” written in the screenplay in any certain tone (perhaps contempt, perhaps something softer) since at that point in time Eames’ character and intentions were ambiguous to anyone encountering the story for the first time. And I like to believe that, as Tom continued reading through the script, he began to piece together the puzzle pieces of Eames and come to realize that this Arthur is no mortal enemy of his, no vicious rival, but rather a tender and intelligent coworker whom Eames wholly trusts and respects. That Tom slowly began to craft his portrayal and maneuver it to fit the insinuations within the screenplay and with full consciousness of who this Arthur may be to his Eames.
Tom has claimed before to not have understood the plot of Inception. What I do know is that he is an incredibly intelligent man and a damn good actor, and he didn’t need to fully comprehend Inception to comprehend the humanity within it. I’m not at all saying that they were written and portrayed to be canonical lovers (I find that notion just a bit silly though I do love pretending), but it makes me happy thinking that this dynamic was not only conceived of by someone in the writer’s room (possible Nolan), but fully compounded and knowingly delivered by Tom Hardy and Joseph Gordon Levitt.

Imagine people who’ve watched the TDK trilogy but not Inception and go on Ao3 to find one of the most popular ships is a random ass pairing of the murderous villain and an orphan cop who never even share a scene together in TDKR 😭😭 honestly power to Arthur and Eames because I personally find Bane/Blake a delicious dynamic despite no canon interactions and thank god for Inception for making this happen. It’s just such a funny concept to the outsider with no knowledge of Inception fandom lore though
