Eddie, infamous Corroded Coffin guitarist, posts to his socials like, “Look at this deranged fan.”
And then it’s just thirty seconds of him breaking into a house, running up the stairs, and then scaring the absolute hell out of Steve while he was getting ready for bed.
He tackles Steve onto the bed and kisses him before telling the camera, “The deranged fan is me. I love this guy.”
Then the video loops back to the start.

You're fucking our DM?!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: steve harrington/eddie munson, steve harrington & mike wheeler, (minor) robin buckley/nancy wheeler rating: T word count: 3.8k content/warnings: comedy, misunderstandings, anxiety, yelling, coming out, bisexual!steve, bisexual!mike, gay!eddie, getting together, bad puns, first kiss, happy ending
on ao3
A/N: I put off posting this for like two weeks because I couldn't think of what Eddie could have possibly said. So it will just stay a mystery for everyone lol
summary: Eddie's joke backfires big time and Steve is left to deal with the consequences of a very angry Mike Wheeler.
It was a quiet and slow day at Family video, as it usually is these days. There weren't many people left in Hawkins after the "earthquake" and the ones that are, didn't really care to rent movies.
So Steve stood behind the counter, chin resting on his hand as he listened to Robin ramble about Nancy. He should probably pay more attention, but he was tired and someone could only hear about the same thing so many times. So he pretty much zoned out at this point.
That was until the door to Family Video slammed open, door rattling against the wall as an angry looking Mike Wheeler stomped into the store. Followed by Dustin and Lucas who looked very worried. Steve shot up immediately, panic rising in his chest. Was the Upside-Down back? No, it can't be. El and Will said they couldn't feel it anymore. There's no way.
"You!" Mike screamed, pointing his finger at Steve.
"W-What?" Steve stammered.
"You're fucking our DM?! Seriously? First my sister and now this?" Mike yelled, face turning red in anger.
Steve just stared at him in shock. He was never so glad for the store to be entirely empty than right now.
"Why can't you leave me one thing! Just one! But no, you have to go and stick your nose in there too. Fuck you, man." Mike spat out and turned around to run back out of the store.
Steve's mouth was just wide open at this point, he was so shocked he couldn't even bring himself to say anything.
"Shit. He didn't mean that, Steve! I swear, he just needs some time okay?" Dustin shot Steve a worried look before dragging Lucas by the arm out of the store to run after Mike.
Steve was left standing behind the counter speechless, watching the kids run out of the store. What just happened?
"Uh, is there something you want to tell me?" Robin said, popping up in his field of view on the other side of the counter.
"N-No?" Steve finally managed to get out.
"Then why did Wheeler just accused you of sleeping with Eddie?" Robin asked, equally as dumbfounded as Steve.
"I have no idea."
Meanwhile in Eddie's trailer.
"You realize what you just implied there, right?" Gareth said with an amused smile on his face.
Eddie groaned. "I didn't mean to! You know sometimes I don't have a filter and shit just comes out!"
Eddie finally sat down at the dinner table that was still a mess from their earlier DnD game. He put his head in his hands and let out a pathetic noise.
"He's gonna kill me, Gareth. I just know he will. And god did you see Mike's face? He got so mad. I know he can be bitchy but shit man, that was kinda scary." Eddie mumbled.
"Didn't you say Steve changed? Maybe he will just laugh it off and calm Mike down."
"Dude, just because he's not an asshole anymore doesn't mean he's okay with me saying we've apparently been fucking." Eddie looked up to glare at his friend.
Gareth chuckled. "Well, then you better come up with a real good apology and/or excuse real quick."
"You really just love to see me suffer, don't you?" Eddie said hitting his head on the table.
"Alright, what's the plan?" Robin said bumping into Steve's side.
"For what?" Steve furrowed his brows.
"Uh well, asking Eddie about whatever just happened? They met up to play today, didn't they? So something must have happened. Mike probably just understood one of Eddie's jokes wrong or something. And frankly, I'm not sure you seeing Mike right now is a good idea. Perhaps I can let Nancy in on this?" Robin rambled.
Steve sighed. His first instinct was to go to the Wheelers after work and talk to Mike. Explain the situation and telling him that no, he's not sleeping with Eddie. And then also ask if he really thought he was taking Nancy from him. Because shit, that hurt to hear. That was never his intention. He liked the guy, even if he's bitchy sometimes and they didn't get along too well.
"Fine. I'll go over to Eddie's after work, alright? And … yeah I think it might be good to get Nancy involved. Tell her before Mike is gonna blow up in her face too, maybe she can get him to calm down a little." Steve said, looking down at the counter.
"Alright then. You go to Eddie's after work and I go to Nancy. I'll call you after." Robin said way too happy.
"You're using this to get closer to Nancy, aren't you?" Steve let out a small chuckle and shook his head.
Robin put her hands up in defense. "What? Me? No! I would never!"
Steve just gave her a look and Robin deflated. "Yeah okay fine, I am." She finally admitted.
"You're hopeless." Steve said with a smile.
"Says you! Why didn't you immediately shot Mike down when he said that, anyway?" Robin narrowed his eyes at Steve, as if trying to figure something out.
"I was just shocked okay? I didn't expect that, and then when I finally processed what just happened he was already gone." Steve huffed out, crossing his arms over his chest.
"Riiiight."
"Robin. What are you implying."
"Nothing! I'm sure it has nothing to do with that little crush you have on Eddie." She smirked.
Steve opened and closed his mouth again like a fish a few times before replying. "I do not have a crush on Eddie!"
Robin looked at him with a mischievous smile and just hummed, picking up a few tapes and putting them back on the shelves.
"I do not!" Steve nearly yelled. "I don't." Quieter this time.
Steve leaned against the counter with a sigh. So what if he did have a crush on Eddie. Robin isn't one to talk with her being all over Nancy. And he was shocked earlier! That's why he didn't reply immediately. Not because he might have thought about kissing Eddie in that moment, Eddie on top of him … No.
Steve let out a frustrated sound and looked at the clock on the wall. Only 40 more minutes until closing. It was gonna be an agonizing 40 minutes, he already knew.
Finally, the day was over. The last few minutes stretching like hours and he felt like he was sweeping the same spot for like 10 minutes. He and Robin gathered their things and went to lock up.
"You wanna go home first or straight to Nancy?" Steve said, turning the key in the lock and walking towards his car.
"Eh. Straight to Nancy, please."
Steve snorted and got into the car. Throwing his stuff on the backseat he started the car and went into the direction of the Wheeler's house. The ride was surprisingly quiet. Robin being way too nervous to even ramble, and Steve thinking about how to broach the subject to Eddie.
They arrived and Steve shushed Robin out of his car with a smirk and a "Have fun.", causing Robin to blush and shove him away with a smile. He waited til Robin was safe inside before backing the car out of the driveway and driving to Eddie's.
He parked behind Eddie's van and got out. The lights were on so at least someone was home, and with the music coming from the side where Eddie's room was, Steve was sure it was Eddie. He walked up to the door and knocked harshly so Eddie could hear it over the louder music.
The music got more quiet and he heard some shuffling before the door swung open.
"St-Steve." Eddie stuttered.
"That's my name." Steve said with a smile. Eddie looked so tense and terrified, he wanted to defuse the situation immediately. He didn't want Eddie to think he was angry with him or anything.
"Y-Yeah. Uh, what are you doing here?" Eddie asked, half hiding behind the door.
"Well, I had an interesting afternoon with a very angry Wheeler. Mind telling me what that was about?" Steve offered another smile.
Eddie sighed before stepping aside and letting Steve in. They were not gonna have that conversation in the doorway. Steve walked in and made himself comfortable on the couch. He liked being here, it always felt so cozy in here. So lived in and the complete opposite of his own home.
Eddie went to sit down on the couch as well, putting an unusual amount of distance between them. Steve frowned at that. Eddie never cared about personal space, he was practically always nearly in Steve's lap. Hell, the amount of time they cuddled during movie nights should be embarrassing. So seeing Eddie being so afraid to be near Steve broke his heart a little. He missed Eddie's closeness and silliness already.
"Hey. Whatever happened, it's fine okay? I'm not mad or anything. Just … a little confused?" Steve said softly.
"I didn't mean to, I swear! I just. My mouth was faster than my brain and the next second everything was chaos and there was screaming and I couldn't explain myself." Eddie said frantically.
"Eddie, it's okay. We know Mike gets irritated real fast. I mean when he stormed into Family Video and basically just screamed at me, I couldn't even react before he was already stomping back out."
"Shit. I really didn't mean to cause you trouble like this." Eddie said with his head hanging low.
Steve scooted closer to Eddie, nudging his shoulder. "It's okay. Turns out there's a lot of pent up feelings from his side about me and Nancy's relationship, and it just boiled over. Really, it wasn't your fault and again I'm not mad at you."
Eddie looked up, face still looking guilty. "What … uh what did he say exactly?"
"Oh. Uhm." Steve suddenly felt nervous. He can't bring himself to repeat what Mike said earlier, absolutely not. He felt his face heat up and he nervously chuckled.
"Just … you know." He said flailing his hands in the air.
"I really don't. That's why I'm asking."
"Shit, okay. Uhm, he said 'You're fucking our DM?'. Well, screamed. He wasn't really talking." Steve said fast and adding the screaming part like it would distract from the obvious. Like it really mattered. It didn't.
Eddie turned red immediately, covering his face with his hands. "I'm so sorry, man."
"Eddie. Can you look at me for a second?" Steve turned around on the couch to fully face Eddie, before gently taking his hands away from his face. He held them in his hands as the lowered them onto his lap, not letting go. Eddie looked at him with wide eyes.
"Eddie, do you think I would actually hate you for this? You know about Robin, I would never judge you for this."
"Sure, maybe not about me being gay. But I did accidentally out you as something you obviously aren't and implied you were with me. You are allowed to hate me for that." Eddie said, feeling the tears in his eyes well up.
"I don't though, okay? And also … You weren't entirely wrong, you know?"
Eddie's head shot up again. "W-What?"
"I- I like guys? I mean, I like girls too. Just … also guys? Well, a specific one I guess." Steve heart hammered in his chest, he felt his palms start to sweat where they were still holding Eddie's.
Eddie stared at him in shock. "You- You do?"
"Yeah, I do. Fuck, Robin is gonna kill me that I told you first." Steve said with a frown and Eddie laughed. He just full on fell over into Steve's lap laughing.
Steve was worried for a second before smiling himself. "Hey, you know how Robin is! She's gonna be furious." Steve pouted.
Eddie finally stopped laughing and pulled himself back up out of Steve's lap. "Yeah, I know. She's gonna rip you a new one, dude." Eddie smiled, a real one with his dimples on display.
Steve felt himself nearly melt at the sight. Eddie had such a nice smile. God, Eddie was absolutely beautiful. He wanted to make him smile forever and bathe in the shine of it.
"So … Who is the lucky dude?" Eddie said with a smirk.
Steve laughed. "I'm not sure I would call him lucky because of that."
Eddie huffed. "Yeah well, I do. You're a fucking catch, man. Who wouldn't be lucky to have you?"
Steve blushed and looked down to their still entangled fingers. "A lot of people, I'm sure."
"Well, they're stupid then." Eddie smiled.
"Yeah?"
"Yeah. So that guy better appreciate what he got, or I'm gonna kick his ass." Eddie said with a stern face before smiling again.
Steve laughed. "You gonna kick your own ass, then? Would love to see that."
"Of course I'll kick my own a- wait, what?" Eddie stopped to stare at Steve.
Steve blushed and looked down again with a shrug.
"Me? You … like me?" Eddie said dumbfounded.
"Yeah I was surprised too." Steve said with a small smirk.
"Oh shut up. I uh … I like you too."
"Thank god, or this would have been a little awkward." Steve said letting go of one of Eddie's hands to cup his cheek. He started to lean in until they jumped apart at the phone ringing.
"Jesus Christ. Seriously?!" Eddie groaned.
He reluctantly got up to answer the phone. "Munson." He said uninterested into the phone.
"Eddie! Steve still with you?" Came Robin's voice from the other side.
Eddie's interest now sparked again he replied more enthusiastically. "Oh, hey. Yeah he is, want me to put him on?"
"Yes, Dingus two." Robin giggled.
Eddie rolled his eyes and called Steve over, replacing Eddie on the phone. Eddie didn't go far though, just leaned back against the kitchen counter watching Steve.
"Hey Robbie. Everything okay?"
"I think so. I filled Nancy in, she's currently talking with Mike. But! I don't hear any yelling, so I'm taking that as a good sign."
Steve let out a sigh of relief. "That's good to hear, thank you."
"Of course, and on your side? Everything going well?" She said with a hint of something in the voice.
"Oh, better than well. Amazing actually, bu-" Steve got cut off by Nancy's voice in the background.
There was some shuffling and hushed voices before Robin spoke again. "Okay, so Mike has calmed down some and is willing to talk. You up for that tomorrow?"
"Yeah! Of course, yes." Steve replied.
"Great! Nancy is gonna bring him over tomorrow. Gotta go, now! Have fun and be safe!" Robin nearly yelled through the phone.
Before Steve could say anything else the line went dead. He hung up the phone and walked right up to Eddie hugging him around the waist and burring his face into Eddie's neck. Eddie's arms immediately came up to hold Steve close to him.
"Everything okay, sweetheart?" He spoke right into Steve's ear.
"Yeah. I think so. I'm gonna meet with Mike tomorrow and talk." He sighed.
Eddie pressed a kiss to the top of Steve's head. "Sounds good."
Steve pulled back a little to look at Eddie's face. "I don't know what Nancy told him, but I hope she didn't convince him we aren't dating. Because how the fuck am I suppose to explain that now?"
Eddie felt like he momentarily blacked out listening to Steve. Dating. They were dating. Holy shit. Steve was his boyfriend? Steve was his boyfriend!
Steve looked at him with a puzzled look when he didn't reply. But was quickly distracted by Eddie's lips on his. Their noses bumped a few times before they found a good position. Mouths moving against each other and hands holding each other tight.
When they finally pulled apart for some much needed air, they smiled at each other. "Sooo … We are dating now? Officially?" Eddie said in a giddy tone, nearly vibrating out of his skin.
Steve smiled and gave him another quick peck on the lips. "Yeah, I'd love that."
Steve was pacing around his house, waiting for Nancy to drop off Mike. He was nervous. What if he is going to fuck this up even more? What if now that him and Eddie were actually dating, it would make things worse?
Steve snapped out of his thoughts when the doorbell rang, he practically ran to the door and and opened it. Mike was standing there with a scowl on his face, clearly not wanting to be here. Well, that's already a great start, Steve thought.
"Come in." Steve said, stepping aside to let the boy in.
Mike stomped past Steve without a word and planted himself on the couch in the living room. Steve sighed and followed him, sitting down on the arm chair next to the couch. Giving Mike all the space he needed.
"So uh. I wanted to apologize, I really didn't know this bothered you so much." Steve started.
Mike snorted. "Really?"
"Look, I know we don't always get along the best. But I do like you, yeah? And I really had no idea you felt that way about me and Nancy."
Mike was quiet for a moment, gaze fixed on a spot on the carpet. His hands fidgeted nervously in his lap.
"It wasn't just you. It was just a shitty time." He said after a while.
That made Steve sit up more. "Could you explain a bit more?"
Mike sighed before he started talking. "It was just the time where everything went to shit, Will was missing and then the entire thing with El and the Upside-Down. And then you and Nancy were like either attached at the hip or fighting. I barely saw her, and not only because of you. I was always gone too." He stopped and took a breath. "And when you two broke up I only heard Nancy's side, which made you the bad guy. I know you both fucked up and you've also you know, changed?"
Steve nodded. " Yeah. I can see now why you didn't like me."
"I don't know. I feel like I have no reason to actually hate you. All you've ever done was help us, fight for us, protect us." Mike said quietly, head still down.
"You can't like everyone, sometimes you just don't like a person and there's no real reason for that. That's just how it is."
"But it's not fair!" Mike's head shot up, looking at Steve. His eyes were wet with unshed tears.
"Mike …" Steve started, but didn't actually know what to say.
"And Eddie is so cool, and we found him first okay! And you didn't even like the guy! I just … I don't understand." Mike's voice got quiet at the end.
"Well, the reason I didn't like Eddie at first was just the leftover King Steve in me. I only knew him as the Freak and a drug dealer. I didn't think he was a good guy, but I obviously got proven wrong." Steve smiled slightly. "He's a great guy, and I totally see why you all love him so much. Hell, I was even jealous because all you kids talked about was Eddie." Steve felt his cheeks heat up in embarrassment. He had never admitted this out loud before.
"Jealous? Why would you be jealous?" Mike asked, head tilted to the side.
Now it was Steve's turn to fidget with his hands. "I just … didn't wanna lose you kids? I didn't want you all to realize oh shit Eddie is way cooler and just … abandon me."
Mike's eyes went wide. "No dude. We would never. Dustin fucking loves you man."
Steve smiled sadly. "Yeah, I know. I just don't have the best track record in keeping people close to me."
Mike was silent for a few seconds, face an unreadable expression to Steve, as always. "You like Eddie?" He finally said.
"Yeah, I really do."
"I think he really likes you too. I don't know how I haven't seen this earlier, he constantly talks about you. More than Dustin even! I didn't even know that was possible. He even named a knight after you! Sir Hairrington." Mike laughed.
Steve immediately turned red. "W-What? He … really?"
"Yeah. He's totally gone on you, dude."
Steve was speechless. Was Eddie really this into him? And for how long has this been going on? Oh he definitely was gonna interrogate Eddie about this later.
"So, you're okay with … us?" Steve asked carefully.
Mike looked at him before nodding. "Yeah. I am. I didn't actually mean what I said. Sorry."
"It's okay, even if you did mean it. And If you ever feel like this or any other way about me, please tell me?" Steve asked in a gentle tone.
Mike nodded but remained quiet. He was back to fidgeting with his fingers and tapping his foot on the ground. There was definitely something else that he was afraid to say.
"You can talk to me, yeah? No judgment." He tried.
Mike looked up. "Did you ever love my sister?"
Steve was taken aback by that. Of course he loved Nancy, he thought she was it. That they were gonna get married and have children of their own.
"Yes, I absolutely did."
"But … now you like Eddie." Mike frowned like he was trying to figure out a math equation. "So you're gay, now?" Is what he finally landed on.
Steve let out a laugh. "No, I'm not gay. I uh, I'm bisexual. I like men and women. That's what that means."
Mike's eyes went wide. "Wait. You can do that?"
Steve smiled at him. "Yeah, man. Of course!"
Steve could see the exact moment it clicked in Mike's head. The realization, the same one Steve had when Robin told him about the term.
"I … I might be … that." Mike said quietly.
"And that's totally okay. I'm proud of you." Steve offered a smile.
Mike stood up and walked over to where Steve was sitting and smashed his body into Steve in an awkward hug. He was half on top of Steve, who was shocked and surprised. But he quickly recovered and wrapped his arm around the boy.
"Thank you." Mike mumbled into Steve's shoulder before pulling back. "You're really not so bad after all." He smirked.
"Right back at you." Steve said with a wink.
"But if you're gonna hurt Eddie, I will kick your ass!" Mike said, finger waving in front of Steve's face.
"Didn't expect anything less." He said with a smile.
Steve knocked on the trailer door and heard some cursing and objects falling over and then the door flung open, revealing an out of breath Eddie.
"Am I interrupting something?" Steve said with a raised eyebrow.
"No! No I was just … in thought."
Steve laughed. "Right. Can I come in?"
Eddie stepped aside and motioned for Steve to come in.
Steve only got past the door before he closed it and pressed Eddie against it with his body. Eddie's eyes went wide and his mouth fell open in surprise.
"Sir Hairrington? Really, Eddie?" Steve teased.
Eddie let out a groan. "I'm gonna kill him."

“All of season one, [Steve] was a really bad dude. 80s’ jock in the pilot script. And then, once we found Joe, he started to evolve a bit and became more charming and likeable, to the point where when we we doing– writing season one, we just realized that we wanted to give him more of an arc, we didn’t want him to end on this negative note of Nancy “the Slut” Wheeler. So that was a last minute change that he went back in that house and helped save the day.” - The Duffer Brothers

I don’t care how disgusting or fucked up a fic is. NO writer should EVER be harassed for writing taboo fics, especially when the warnings are properly tagged and you choose to go ahead and read them on your own free will.
you’re not morally superior for harassing real people for the sake of fictional characters and fictional stories. you’re just a bully.
