I can't stop thinking about how a helper by nature with a brilliant mind like Varian has been forced to resort to building weaponry instead because of circumstances and external influences (like the Saporians) in the show in order to get shit done

And the way that this is applicable to Hugo's character too that drives me crazy. Like in a sense that he's been too busy and too occupied planning out better ways to improve his self-preservation that he's never had the time of day to tinker something that's not weaponry (or just for fun that doesn't need to be inherently practical)

Olivia truly being the exception—she is the walking proof that if Hugo grew up in a less harsh environment, then perhaps he'd be tinkering contraptions that could help other people too—which is something he finally was given the room to do when he spent time with team radical (granted, at first, he begrudgingly tags along at their insistence to delay their road trips on side quests to help other people they come across on the way, he eventually learns to be okay with it as time went on and actually saw the benefits of it as a perfect opportunity to exercise his engineering and be flexible beyond weapon making)

And the fluttering feeling of being thanked by other people giving him grateful smiles and appreciation is totally doing things to Hugo (like uh huh being a good guy actually feels good, who knew right?)

Varian had a helper inventions to weaponry pipeline in tts while Hugo had a weaponry to helper inventions pipeline in vat7k and it's beautiful
