Dorian accepted the lighter with a nod. “Thank you.” And lit up his cigar— a beer, a cigar and a night in a casino, all that was left was the noir music. “Here you go.” He returned the lighter to lady that gave it to him. One might say that it’s not polite to smoke indoors but he was sure that the casino will let one do almost anything if it meant they’ll stay another hour or two. It has been both fascinating and boring to scout the place. His phone pinged, taking him out of his mission, it was a text from his kid, which he replied quickly. 

He glanced at the woman next to him and paused, she seemed familiar but couldn’t place it exactly. Not a target, maybe he has seen her somewhere that had no relations to his work. His curiosity got the better of him, at the end. “Did you manage to win tonight?”

Frankie finished her glass and placed it back on the bar, tapping the rim with two fingers to indicate a refill. The blonde smiled at the bartender as a way to thank him when he came and replaced her empty glass with a filled one. Unlike her first drink, Frankie paid more attention to this one, noting the liquid's dark brown, tea-like color. She then took the glass in her right hand and swirled it until some of the liquid coated the sides. She brought the glass closer to her nose, took a whiff of her drink, and then a sip. Macallan 25. When the man beside her returned her lighter, Frankie gave him a polite nod and a smile. She placed the lighter on the bar just in case it’d be needed again.

"In more ways than one," she answered matter-of-factly. "I always do. I only came tonight cause I knew I'd win. Yourself?"

Dorian had no interest in the chips in front of him, the only reason he played in the casino currently was to blend in. Sometimes he would lose, sometimes win, he didn’t really care if he lost or gain money here— he had far better and entertaining options for that. Dorian ordered a drink from the walking waiter, because casinos were built to be bright, always alive with the idea that there’s no need to leave and instead one could stay and spend all the money in the world, which Dorian had due to his very specific work. 

But this wasn’t his first choice when it came to spending money, however, one must do a lot of things for the sake of work. Finally cashing out, Dorian drowned the last of his drink and went to the bar, ordering a beer for now. A beer and cigar sounded like the perfect thing to do while he waited, but just his luck that his lighter has stopped working suddenly. “Got a light?” He asked the person next to him.

She’d been there for quite some time now, a hefty pile of chips neatly stacked in front of her. Frankie’s leaned back in her chair, her eyes scanning her opponents' faces, including that of her potential client who, no matter how hard he tried, couldn’t hide his glee from her. The guy upped the ante, and Frankie’s prediction was more or less confirmed. Don’t play the odds, play the man. Her hand was shit, but she went all in anyway. The other men folded, and 2 minutes later, her target followed suit. Easily rattled, she thought before revealing that she had won the game with a lousy hand. Needless to say, she was on cloud 9. She’d just won a lot of money and a new client. 

Frankie told her associate to deal with the cash out before heading down to the bar. She ordered her single malt and hopped onto one of the stools. Frankie couldn’t wait to tell her partners that she’d just signed a new client worth a hell of a lot more than what she’d won tonight. When her drink came, she thanked the bartender and took a sip. Not as good as her usual, but not too bad. She was just about to take another sip when the man next to her asked if she had a lighter on her. Frankie's not a regular smoker, but she always has a light and a cigarette in her purse because, at events like these, the two could be an effective conversation opener.

"Sure," she answered while opening her purse and fishing out her Zippo. "Be my guest."

Frankie attended Harvard Law School and graduated magna cum laude, obtaining her J.D degree. Years later, she went to Yale and obtained an L.L.M degree.

Frankie is a lawyer. Practicing law had always been her goal in life. The reason behind this is that Frankie believes that being a lawyer means having power and Frankie is driven by power. She believes that lawyers always have the upper hand despite the challenges that come with the job. Frankie loves the fight and she loves winning those fights even more.
