Various local organizations and the community rallied yesterday, August 28th 2019, at Madison Park in Oakland to protest DHS’s implementation of the public charge rule change. The rule change allows the Department of Homeland Security to deny green cards to any immigrant who has used or might use in the future public benefits such as SNAP, Section 8 vouchers, and many other programs. Simply put, this is an attack on immigrant communities.
