Mirrors have long been items of vanity. To admire oneself - all you need to do is peer in. Of course, there’s many things mirrors do beyond vanity; art, archeology, medicine, psychology, technology – anything you could put your mind to, mirrors and reflections have lended their hand to. Even in a magical sense, they are sacred objects. In some places they are used to commune with deities, and in others they are a means to ward off evil spirits. Stories revolve around them as well; Alice, Narcissus, Dracula. In this case, however…

You awaken in your homes upon Polaris, and like any other day go through your routines. Perhaps you find yourself taking more note than usual, that it’s hard to navigate the North Star without passing your reflection in one way or another. A puddle brought about from the rain that seems to persist even here, the glass panes of a small café, the mirror in your bathrooms…

As you start to wonder why this might be something you’re noticing more today than other days, staring back at the self reflected to you, there’s a shift. A change. The person on the other side pushes, and the reflection bends around them, cascading around their form until they emerge but –

Beyond a reflection existing on a material plane, there is something very wrong with the visage that stands in front of you…or, is there?

Welcome to Fractured Star’s second event — Fool’s Mirror!

This event will take place directly on Polaris as your reflections begin to materialize themselves on the physical plane. It doesn’t seem dangerous, as The Keepers have made no moves to warn anyone about these reflections, and most of them don’t seem to be doing any harm. But you might be asking – what’s so strange about them? Well, these reflections are you. Though, perhaps not quite. They are you, how you see yourself. However their character truly and genuinely views themselves on the deepest level, whether that be positive or negative, has materialized itself in their reflection.

Let’s say for example your character views themself as a bad person due to actions they did in the past; they believe their hands are stained with blood and there’s no escaping it. Their reflection might manifest as a bloodsoaked individual, wallowing in their grief. Perhaps they view themselves as better than everyone else around them - their reflection might almost appear Godly in nature. This goes beyond physical appearances even - prompting personality and behavioral changes. However you truly see yourself, this reflection is a perfect representation of that.

It may be uncomfortable to see these copies of yourself wandering around so freely, but unless your view of yourself is hostile, they’re simply going about their days as you normally would.
